Elements of Prayer. Colossians 4:2-6. Oct. 16 2020.
“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.”
Yesterday I spoke about prayerlessness in my blog. How little time we spend in actual prayer with our Father, both individually and corporately. Today I want us to evaluate our own prayer life. Do I pray regularly? Are my prayers answered by God? Many of us struggle with our prayer life, but we need not be discouraged. God offers us many wonderful ways in Scripture to improve our prayer life.
First we must devote ourselves to prayer. Colossians 4:2 1 Thessalonians 5:17. When we devote ourselves to prayer, than we not only pray but we also listen to the voice of God. Rushing through a quick prayer is not devotion to God. In all circumstances and at all times we must pray.
Ephesians 6:18-19 tells us to stay alert in prayer. We need to be aware of the tricks of the devil. He wants us to be distracted. He loves to make us think of other things when we are praying. Or he loves us to fall asleep when we pray. If we are alert then we will expect these things to happen and be ready for it when it does. Stay focused on the task before us.
And Colossians 3:16-17 tells us to be thankful in all things. We must be thankful to God for His goodness and mercy. He listens to us and He is faithful. Look forward with a thankful Spirit to the Lord’s answers to your prayers.
These are just a few things that we can add to our prayer life to make it more interesting, exciting and fruitful. So pray always, stay focused on God, and be thankful for His faithfulness.
