Choose One Thought Over Another

Tuesday, November 17, 2020

“The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.”
– William James

Today, I choose the thought that good, healthy food and taking time for exercise is worth it. I am worth it. I can overcome the stress of the past week and move forward one step at a time.

To recap, last week my Wisconsin middle school went virtual temporarily. My son's middle school also went virtual until after Thanksgiving. My daughter's high school is currently face-to-face, but they are at 13 positive cases with 123 quarantined...so it's likely a matter of time. (They spent a week in virtual already.)

I get it. We're all doing the best we can and making the best decisions we can in the moment. But last week really got to me. I am a planner, and I find myself in a world in which I cannot plan ahead. Are we hosting a Thanksgiving dinner? Don't know. Will my daughter still have face-to-face school next week? Don't know. Will my husband (school bus driver) have another week of no pay because schools are closed? Don't know.

Not making excuses, but I hope you can see why last week was a wash for me as far as tracking food, exercising, or even logging in to Spark goes. This week, I am choosing to focus on the things I can control and letting go of the unknown.

Just a numbers check:
My county: 4915 ACTIVE cases (390,000 population)
Hospitals: 73% of ICU is full
7-day average of positive test percentage: 32.5% positive
Average new cases per day: 360

It's not good. Take care of yourselves, and be safe!

HUGS and hang in there. It is just plain tough. Wish that it would get better quick.

Be safe, stay well. Definitely have to eat well, exercise and take some me time, limited as that is, for sure.
