Adjusting Mindset For A Healthy Winter

Saturday, November 28, 2020

This entry is an exercise that the health coach and I devised for this week. I want to remember it.

Adjusting mindset for a Healthy Winter.

Belief: Every thought we think, every word we say, every deed we do is a prayer.

Problem: I tend to make comments about how hard it is to maintain or lose unwanted fat in Winter and how easy it is in Spring and Summer. Over the years I have had a habit of making disparaging comments about my weight and body. Time to adjust my attitude and show myself some love.

Cold wet weather
Warm comforting food
Lack of physical activities I enjoy outside
Lack of daylight
Sadness at loss of Sister
Sadness and anger at destruction of husband
Disparaging remarks about self

Need to rephrase words and ultimately thinking to lead to healthier habits and lifestyle.

During cold weather I can bundle up in an appropriate coat, hat scarf and gloves and still walk Buddy.
I can still enjoy warm comforting food in the form of soups and healthy meals home made from wholesome foods.
Take up the VR and Beat Saber for fun indoor activities.
Turn on all lights and open shades to keep the house cozy, bright and cheerful. Light some candles at night for ambiance.
Remember the good things about Dixie and enjoy the happy memories as they wash over. Don’t worry about the bittersweet tears.
Remember the good things about Tom and forgive him for his self destruction. Keep practicing forgiveness not only for him but for myself and my perceived shortcomings.
Consider lighting a candle for each of my lost loved ones during the holidays and then release them so they can continue with their next adventure.
When I catch myself saying disparaging remarks about myself or anyone remember the preschool social stories. I can stop myself and change the wording till it becomes a habit.

Eg: When I find myself complaining how hard it is to maintain or lose weight in the winter I remember to STOP. Then I start over saying “This year is different though. I have the skills to continue eating healthy through the winter. It will be a great year. “

You have some very wise insights. And forgiveness is very powerful.

One thing that helps during the winter is special lights that mimic sunlight. I have a lamp that does that. (My roommate left it when she went off to become a nun.) It is highly recommended for people that suffer from the "winter blues." There is an official name for that, but I don't remember it right now.

I am praying for you and your family.
