Epiphany = end of Christmas decorations

Wednesday, January 06, 2021

Many traditionally keep the decorations up until Twelfth Night, January 6, which marks the Christian holiday of Epiphany, representing when the Maji arrived after following a star to visit the son of God, and is considered a special moment in the story of Jesus’ birth that, in some countries, is just as important as Christmas Day itself.

Meaning“appearance” or “manifestation” in Greek, celebration of the Epiphany goes back to at least the second century. In the Bible, and according to the Gospel of Matthew in the story of the Nativity, the Maji followed the star across the desert to Bethlehem, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. These were symbolic of the importance of Jesus’ birth: the gold representing his royalty; frankincense, his divinity; and myrrh, his humanity.

I will be removing my "Christmas" decorations tomorrow, but my "snow dogs" will remain outside through January.
