Forgiving. Proverbs 3:1-4. Jan 16 2021.
“Finally brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy,... meditate on these things”. Philippians 4:8
When someone hurts you, does it eat away at you? Often we spend so much time and energy focusing on the wrong that it exceeds the hurt that was done to you. We brood for hours, days even weeks over a minor affliction against us.
But God commands us to forgive those who offend us. Because we have been forgiven by Christ we have no right to have an unforgiving spirit to those who hurt us. An unforgiving spirit can be worse than cancer. When we dwell on our hurts it only magnifies our pain and misery.
We become determined to keep punishing those who offended us. But God tells us that vengeance belongs to Him onlyInstead of focusing on the person who hurt you, try praying for him or her . Pray that God would reveal to you the motivation behind their actions so that you can better understand the situation.
God never instructs us to punish them. Instead He shows us a way to move forward. Never allow the past to hold you back from doing what God wants you to do. God will heal you as you seek His guidance.
The next time you are attacked ask God to make something good from it. When you are tempted to dwell on negative thoughts, filll your mind with the text from Philippians instead.
