Exercise is Self Care

I heard this from a woman on Youtube who leads exercise classes. She's super cute and upbeat her name is Pahla B if you are interested. I found her over the summer when I was in a cast andcshe had some really good seated workouts. This isn't a totally new concept but for whatever reason it stuck out for me this time and I think about it.
Self care.....huh.....
I know I love it when I get a pedicure, or a haircut, I feel like I made an effort for myself, My perspective has shifted because of this one comment and exercise this week has been different. I happily took a two hour hike and a few times I just threw on shoes and hit the block. My hand weights are near my bed and I just pick them up and give myself a moment to feel strong. No set counting, no right or wrong order. Of course its great to schedule workouts, track fitness minutes and steps and have a goal, but I took off the Fitbit and just enjoyed moving my body, it was wonderful. There was no disappointment if I didn't keep my heart rate elevated for a certain time and I didn't count the minutes...I just gave myself the gift of activity and beautiful skies, sounds of nature and some muscle activation. It really felt like self care and I would love to do more of it. Exercise should never be a punishment for food eaten, whether today or ten years ago.
I thought I'd share Pahla's comment, it is a marvelous thing to think about.
I do wear my Fitbit to work because I need a watch and I love to see the fitness minutes add up. Its like free workout there and if I keep this comment in mind, I'm getting some self care in on the job!
