January 27, 2021 MAKE LIVES MATTER
Looking around at our entire world, we see that growth is a great part of it. Everything grows. The grass, the trees, the animals, humans, etc. Those are all things we can see. However, there are things we cannot see that need to be cared for so they can grow as well. We should grow our minds through reading and learning. We need to grow in wisdom through experiences and challenges. We ought to grow our hearts as we show love. Growing in our relationships should be one of our priorities in life.
We sometimes overlook nurturing and growing our relationships. Time and time again, we tell others we are too busy to do something they want to do. We don’t have time for coffee with a friend, lunch with a co-worker, playtime with our children, or one-on-one time with our spouse. The more we put off these things, the less our relationships grow.
We must be intentional about building our relationships. We should not let distance come between us and others because we don’t like what they said or did. We should, instead, be proactive and seek ways to spend time with them while working through our differences.
Growing our relationship with God should be our main priority. When we do this, we will grow in so many ways as we take time to read His word, pray and meditate on His word. The more we learn about God, the closer we can become to Him. When we have a right relationship with God, we will have a right relationship with others. We need to remember to make lives matter putting God first, others second and ourselves last.
Proverbs 11:30 “The seeds of good deeds become a tree of life; a wise person wins friends.” (NLT)
1. Write out the benefits of good relationships.
2. List some people you haven’t seen in a while or are hard to love.
3. Reach out to those people and spend time with them.
4. Be sure you seek God first in your life and work on your relationship with Him.
Dear Lord, we don’t want our relationships to become stagnant. We don’t want to keep putting off calling someone or checking in with a friend, neighbor or co-worker. Help us remember the importance of growing our relationships, nurturing them and making lives matter. We know all of this begins with a right relationship with You. Help us to draw closer to You and get to know You more and more each day so we can do exactly what You want us to do to build relationships. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Romans 4:13 “Clearly, God’s promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God’s law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith.” (NLT)
