Variety is the spice of life....

... and it makes sense when losing weight too.

When I was a lot younger, I tended to keep to the same meals in rotation for losing weight, having the same breakfasts cay in, day out as it was easier when I was working. Lunches were very same’y too, for the same reason. Evening meals... not much variety there.

BUT... my body was not fooled for long and I hit plateaus often! Not knowing why...

These days, I try to vary my meals a lot more. I tend to have 3-4 different breakfast in a week, lunches vary immensely, dependent often on the size of the breakfast in terms of timing and size. Evening meals are very varied, partly because we both love cooking so take it in turns to cook the evening meal and enjoy experimenting with different recipes and new cuisines. Tonight, for example, Laurie cooked and we celebrated Chinese New Year with homemade spring rolls, salt’n’pepper squid, dry roasted pork ribs, Singapore noodles and freshly made prawn crackers. We actually ate far less than we would have with a take away and far healthier too.

Yes, keeping my body guessing has been a key to my more consistent weight loss these last few months. I keep ringing the changes with the food and the ol’ body doesn’t get the chance to get complacent so has to keep up.....

The variety doesn’t stop there. I enjoy working out. Yes, I pedal on my WonderCore daily, but I have also started to vary my workouts. I have found a number of different videos on YoutTube that I subscribe to, even Zumba and yoga most recently. When I weight train, I have also changed what I do. I used to train with weights almost daily, doing the same selection of exercises every day. Now I do a different few, every few days, so my muscles get a better workout, I feel the benefit and my weight seems to benefit too...

Yes, variety really is the spice of life in so many ways and it certainly avoids boredom and apathy...

Today I pedalled, did a 30 minute Zumba Gold workout, ten minutes on the treadmill and some weight training. No gardening as it was raining this afternoon, but maybe tomorrow....
