Ash Wednesday 2021

Do you give something up for Lent? While I am not particularly religious, I find Lent a good time to get something out of my life - one year it was soda - I haven't had a soda in at least 8 years. I should have started thinking about this sooner, but it kind of crept up on me since I wasn't paying attention to the calendar. Maybe I will add something instead - as a way of giving up my laziness about that something. I will think about it and let you know.

Today I will need to finish cleaning off the car and shoveling that snow off to somewhere else. If the frozen food delivery gets here in time, I will take a load of stuff to the new house.

Weather is slowly warming - forecast says 23F for our high today and 40 by next Tuesday. Not holding my breath since they have been wrong before.

I don't celebrate Lent, but we have something similar, supposed to fast on Yom Kippor ( i don't but have given up coffee before--starting the week before to make the shock to my system easier. I will try to eat less and eat bland food).
    Stay warm and safe.

Since all the regular stuff one gives up for Lent are things I try to cut down on year round, these 6 weeks won't be any different.

I rarely succeed at Lenten fasts, although I'm actively Christian. (I used to give up ice cream, but now that I'm lactose intolerant, there'd be nothing spiritual about that since I can't eat it anyway.) I've made it a practice to add a charitable donation or behavior instead of the deprivation of a fast. I'm hoping to write one snail-mail card or letter to a friend or relative each day during Lent this year. DH and I will be abstaining from alcohol for a while, but that's for health, not spiritual, reasons.

Since you're moving, maybe you can donate an item to charity. I did that one year for Lent, and found that I actually gave nice clothing that I still liked. It felt much more sacrificial than giving away cast-offs.

I don't do the religious thing at all so no, I am not omitting something, or adding something. Never did understand what religion and giving something up had in common.

Our Christian sect does not observe Lent. I am desperate for the warm up.
