Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Wednesday, March 17, 2021

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! I am taking a moment to check in before this evening's festivities, it's my daughter's birthday and our annual corned beef and cabbage dinner, YUMMM I look forward to it every year!
I recently picked up the book, "Intuitive Eating" by Elyse Resch and Evelyn Tribole and it's a great read. One can have a philosophical argument with just about anything and as I read the ten steps I thought with my rebel self, hmmm steps....rules (even though the authors get my type and go out of their way to state these are not rules).. I love the principles of the book that have to do with loving yourself at any size and rejecting diet mentality and food labels. I like the idea but I also feel good tracking. In a weird moment, I decided that tracking may be dieting for some, but for others, not so. I think I have learned that tracking calories does not equal dieting for me. I truly think that's the ticket, you have to know what makes you feel like you're on a diet and what makes you feel like you're respecting yourself or your health. So many people do so well on things that I don't whether it's counting carbs, fat grams, points, vegetables per day, etc....etc....Somewhere I talked myself out of what works for me and feels good to me because tracking food is considered by some, dieting. My first walk off the path was with Whole 30 and the big promise was that I would never or should never have to track my food again, same with Keto, and Plant Based. Funny thing, all of those programs (which are great and work well for many!) inherently had something even harder, there was some limitation to the food or food groups and I would fall off....hard.... and feel like a failure. Some days, like today, I will eat soda bread with butter and have a green margarita while I cook and stay in range and be happy. It will break many of the rules of my past diets but I will be happy and it will be sustainable. I like laying in bed and plugging my food into SP, I'm not sure why I sought something easier in exchange for what for me, were greater challenges. I feel balanced when I track, fatty foods are naturally higher in calories so I typically offset with a high fiber, low fat lunch. We are smarter than we think. I hope you have a fun day, I will be tracking, enjoying and getting back to my normal. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Anyway we eat is a diet, whether to lose weight, put it on or just to stay the same, it’s just a word...
