Asking for me

Monday, April 19, 2021

I recently started chemo for an upper ureter carcinoma - the side effects are bearable right now since I got the anti-nausea medication. But I have no energy and really have to force myself to do anything around the house let alone exercise. I did 1/2 hour of Silver Sneakers classic yesterday and it pretty much wiped me out. This is a new chemo where they put Jelmyto (a gel) in your kidney and it filters out.

I guess I'm looking for some advice about how to get some energy back. Most foods look awful to me except carbs which I really don't need to eat as much. And the idea of cooking anything seems to be too much trouble.

Any ideas?

As several others have mentioned, soup is great! Heat up reduced sodium, fat free chicken broth, beat an egg and slowly drizzle into simmering broth and stir, add a dash of soy sauce - voila - egg drop soup! It's very nourishing and easy. If anyone asks about bringing something, suggest egg custard. It goes down easily and can be very nutritious if you go light on the sugar. Also reduced sugar canned fruit, such as peaches or apple sauce might taste good. I hope you start regaining strength and energy soon.

I would try soups or maybe try the home delivery of meals. Maybe if you don't have to prepare the foods, they will be more appealing. When both my wife and I were down in mobility we tried them and they were good.

🙏 Take it easy. Your body needs time to fight and heal. Soup always seems comforting and nutritious. Small meals through out the day may help.

I found soup to be really healing and nourishing.. You can make a batch in the crockpot and eat off it for days. Some crusty bread might go well with it. As far as getting your energy back, maybe just some gentle walking in nature would help. Please be kind to yourself and let your body do the fighting for you. Also when someone says ( can I do anything for you) say yes! I wish you much strength and healing!! emoticon
