Fast Food and Me

Wednesday, April 21, 2021

In 2011 I joined Sparkpeople and the first thing I did was stopped eating fast food but Subway once a week. I lost over 50 pounds. With the pandemic I started eating fast food again almost every day. I was in the habit of skipping breakfast and getting fast food for brunch. And than our caregiver started bringing me fast food for breakfast and us going out for fast food for lunch to. It was getting out of hand and weight was coming back, almost ten pounds. Our caregiver came to me last week and said she wanted to give up fast food for two weeks. That sounded great to me and in support of her I would too. Monday I went to the Supermarket and got things for breakfast and lunches. I planned out my eating for the week. Today I had for breakfast, before going out today, scrambled eggs cooked with salsa and a sprinkle of cheese. For lunch I had egg salad on rye bread. I love rye bread and did not know until today it was less calories than whole wheat bread and is just as good for you. For dinner I have cooking in the crock pot chicken legs with baby carrots and celery sprinkled with Ranch dip mix. I will have for desert Dannon 80 calorie yogurt. I also had two coffees with milk and sugar. I found that these simple meals are taster than fast food, healthier for you and cheaper. I will go back to just having Subway once a week and no other fast food. You can load up on veggies on your sub, most of mine is veggies.

The body will keep its setpoint higher when we eat fast food or other ultraprocessed foods. And mental clarity lasts longer when a person limits fast food to once a week. Here's to your new era!

I love fast food and the more I eat it the more I crave it. Particularly tough for me is Mcdonalds fries and Taco Johns Potato ole's with cheese. (I don't have one near me now so that is good). When I start eating a whole foods plant based diet, I notice that my body will crave those types of foods. I have difficulty staying on plan while traveling because we eat fast food on the road. Good luck with your new mind set.

Good for you for ditching some of the fast food in favor of healthier home-cooked food! Awesome.
