just sayin’ … do I really exist???

Friday, May 14, 2021

When we were putting pictures together for BFF Sharon’s memorial … we had a hard time coming up with recent pictures … pictures from the last 5-10 years. Tons from her Mom from ages ago … but none recently. Now everyone and their dog has a cell phone with a camera … but no recent pictures to document Sharon’s recent life.

The problem wasn’t access to a camera … it was access to taking Sharon’s picture.

I’m exactly the same way … the fam pulls out a camera … I tuck and roll. Our DIL make’s annual calendars using pictures from the year before … documenting the changes in the g-kids. She just asked for pictures of us to be included.

Now there are tons of pictures of Hubby … he’s a cutie.

But pictures of me … not so much.

So, here’s me with my Mother Day’s flowers DS1 had delivered.

Change your mind … and the rest WILL follow.

    Beautiful lady inside and out!
I'm always the photographer and have years of no "me" pictures. Ii don't like selfies but unless I flag down a stranger, it's all I got!

Ahhh, what a lovely photo. I think most of us on here tend to shy away from the camera. I know I do. My Mum did too, and I have so few of her in her final years as she hated her "steroids" face. It's sad, because I loved her no matter what her face was looking like, and have very little photographic evidence to show that she was here and lived an amazing, valuable life....a lesson for us too maybe? emoticon

Not many pictures of me. For me it's low self esteem.

Personally, I think that's a beautiful photo of a beautiful woman (inside AND outside!) But know how you feel, too. It was my own Mom who pointed out that if I didn't get my photo taken, nobody would remember me when I'm gone! She's right. I cherish the pictures of both she and Dad that I have and now am sure to have my picture taken on memorable occasions so there are reminders that I walked this planet!

For decades--even when younger, I was the family photographer; was missing from many of the photos. It was just a matter of not being able to be in two places at the same time. I would not hide from the camera; you have a pretty face---be proud of yourself and for being such a great friend to Sharon. ((Hugs))

I used to hide when anyone brought a camera out and was always pretty disgusted with the outcome. I'm not sure what changed, but somewhere along the line, I decided to just embrace the camera and people tell me how photogenic I am now! I think it's all about being happier in yourself. There are even a few pics of me that even I like! Never thought I'd see that happen. So now, when the camera comes out - just smile and fake it til you make it! You'll be surprised at the results! emoticon

You are a beautiful woman... no need to hide from a camera! emoticon

I know the feeling, though... and have hid from cameras so many times... hair not right, not feeling "perfect". Funny thing, hair, sweat and all, I have LOTS of post-race pictures! But not much since I stopped doing events.

I think its an issue of loving ourselves right where we are. Because each and every one of us is lovable, whether we can see it for ourselves or not! emoticon

I know how you feel. A friend once said she takes photos for those that come after. I try to keep that in mind, but it’s still hard to sit for photos where my face isn’t made up and I can’t control the camera angle.

You look awesome. No need to tuck and roll anymore. Take care of yourself.

Lovely photo, but I can relate to how you feel

As I look through our albums, sometimes I'm the one missing because I was the one with the camera.

There was a 20 year period when even though I am IN the picture, I have positioned myself carefully.
Either behind a child or holding my hat strategically to obscure my thighs.
Yet if you asked me back then, I would have denied I was fat. The photos are proof though that I really knew the truth.
