The Trials of Low Fodmap

Sunday, May 16, 2021

I saw the GI a week and a half ago. My IBS and GERD are out of control. To the point where I am throwing up multiple mornings a week. He added a prescription medication and suggested a low-Fodmap diet. I have never heard of such a thing. But I ordered a book and did some reading online. Low Fodmap = Low Fun. But, so far so good. I am sticking to the plan as best I can. It sure is a pain in the butt, but I am already feeling better. Today was the first time in years that I was able to eat a meal that I did not prepare myself without running to the bathroom immediately after eating and without taking any medication to prevent me from running to the bathroom. Each and every item I chose was well thought out and on plan. No cheats. And it made a huge difference. Online, it says to do the elimination phase for 3-8 weeks, then gradually add back foods until you learn which items trigger your symptoms and which do not. I guess we shall see which ones need to stay gone.

Good for you, sticking to your diet. You seem to be adjusting, just give it time.
