FODMAP #2....

Monday, May 17, 2021

Good Afternoon all my lovely Spark Family!

Today's title is FODMAP #2 as this is the second time I did a blog regarding this...and this is why I am doing it again...
A few yrs ago I was having similar conditions happening to me like I have had for the last 4 months except I did not have diarrhea....
After many many tests done and me having IBS and borderline Crohn's the specialist( which is whom I am seeing again right now) felt it was best to do this diet...
I really struggled with this as I am a vegetarian/vegan-I only eat eggs...and have done this since I was between 10-12 ish to most vegetarian stuff I was eating I can not have , it flared me up....I did this for about 10 months I think and I was so sick of meat...went to a dietitian and she tried to make me a meal plan for a month with what I could eat and still get all the nutrients I needed and I did do that for a few months ,but I always felt "off" so I knew I was not getting what I I bounced back and forth for months and yrs....then came Jan this year , I decided enough I can not do meat anymore going back to vegetarian/vegan...and again still only eating eggs....well u all know how this is working lol

Went for a Colonoscopy and they took tissues for the results back today...
I went from IBS /borderline Crohn's to I have lymphocytic colitis....
I will have this most likely for the rest of my life due to my already history of digestive problems....but the right fit for medication and diet will be KEY on how much I suffer every day...We will be doing 6 months of medication trials to see what works for me ...right now is Pepto 4 -5 times a day for a month...
Then comes DIET....yup your right it is FODMAP ...I already had my blood work for food allergies on the fridge and did my meals according to that , I had the FOD MAP diet printed out from before and pulled that out and put it up there and surprise surprise! I never noticed it before but they are almost the same! a few things that is off but I REALLY got a chuckle out of that!...
SO if you haven't guessed is back to meat and veggies it is for me...I am limited on grains/flours etc and has to be gluten free...thank goodness I can keep my oats in there!
the nuts I live on for being vegan I can not have...and the beans I live on can not have....the fruits I live on is now an no no...
and all veggies have to be steamed or cooked , no raw...only lettuce is allowed
SO this is gonna be a huge transition for me I have never liked meat....growing up I was not allowed to leave the table until my meat was gone...and I would literally sit there for hours my sister would get so mad at me as she was not allowed to leave either and my parents wanted to make sure I did not feed it to her or the has never been something I took a taking to ...but it is either find a way or continue living like this....

I will still live like this for the rest of my life but it is up to me on how bad my flare ups will be and how much of the day I chose to spend in the rest room....
as for the weight loss it has something to do with my white blood count and my large intestines not absorbing it which is again to do with the colitis he said I will most likely still loose weight and again it all depends on my diet...If I am a bad girl I will pay for it...
the white blood count makes sense to me as ever since my hysto my white count was always low

I AM SO HAPPY it is not is something else yet I have to get used to living with that is life changing but I can do it...

Now to try and like meat...this is gonna be truly my hardest challenge yet on this earth...
Please send me or post your favourite meat recipe , give me some ideas...I can not have anything spicy so no spicy for the rest I will eliminate it if I can't have it ...

For all that wants to take a peek at the diet look up FODMAP

Chow for now

Thank u all! I will be only eating fish , turkey and chicken for the most part maybe beef here and there but fish for sure and ground chicken and turkey at is BBQ season so lots of burgers can be made with that ground meat....I am very happy to hear it is not cancer as u all know how bad it is in my to find recipes and start this new way of living so I can get some comfort....last night we had a tomato/basil/olive salad with olive oil and fish with salt and pepper and olive oil sorry can not remember the fish sole maybe ...anyways I could not eat all of the fish but really wasn't expecting to but it wasn't bad...hubby pan fried it in the oil , think I would have enjoyed it more if it was baked but that will be for another day to try....tonight we are having turkey burgers(homemade of course) with not sure on the vegetables yet as what I have in the house I can not eat so it is eat it and I will pay for it or eat something else...but we will see...I plan on working out today and getting slowly back into that also...3 days max for now

I am so thankful for all of you !

So very glad that you have an answer and something that can be improved/controlled through nutrition. I am like you in that I don’t like/eat anything that has fur....but, I do find chicken, ground turkey, seafood OK.
Maybe you can begin with a chicken stir fry?

So thankful it was not cancer! You will figure out the diet in time. I wish I could understand the not liking meat thing. I am a true meat lover! Especially beef. Steaks, ground beef, roast...
Then of course poultry..chicken and turkey.
    Don’t forget pork..tenderloin, bacon, ham.
    Fish? Shrimp, crab, lobster?
(I just can’t/won’t eat lamb, veal, or wild game like Buffalo, deer, bear, etc.)

Girl, I love meat. I wish you the best figuring it out. And am so glad you are getting some answers.

Well.... could be a lot worse!!! Grateful it's not Cancer and finally have an answer! Many prayers that you will find "meat" that you not just tolerate, but actually enjoy! You may find fish to be more palatable than beef or poultry due to texture!
