I'm sad about the news but it is what it is. The Universe is telling me it's time for a change and time to move on. I've already found a site I like. It will take some time to get used to it but I will.

@ROSIEJ1942 - After you create an account on SparkAmerica, you can go to www.spark360.com to log into that account. However, I checked in our system and do not see that you created an account--at least there is not one with the same email you used on SparkPeople. If you signed up with a different email address, all is probably fine and you can log in with that same email.

If you did not create your new account yet, please use this link to create one:

portal.spark360.com/Account/SAEmail/0

Let me know if you need additional help with that.

SparkAmerica is ABSOLUTELY available to all individuals (in the USA)! It is NOT just for corporate employees. I know there has been some confusion about that so I am glad you asked so I can try to clarify.

When you join SparkAmerica, you will also see references to Spark360. Spark360 is the name of our company wellness offering where members are employees of a company which has subscribed to our services. SparkAmerica IS OUR COMMUNITY MOVEMENT and all individual members (in the USA) are welcome to join. SparkAmerica and Spark360 both use the same tech platform. This is how we’re able to still have a free offering for individuals to use and we’ll continue adding to this platform with new community features and more.

When you join SparkAmerica, you will see an optional field to select a company's name. However, please note that it is optional and you can leave that field blank.

You may also see an optional field to select a city you are in or near. Again, it is completely optional to choose one. The city selection is only needed if you want to participate in any of our City-to-City type challenges. A lot of cities are populated now; but, more will be added by the end of the week. It is fine to go ahead and join SparkAmerica now without picking a city and then you can be added to a city later if you decide you want to do that (you can contact our support team for help with that). If you do pick a city and do not work for a company, there is an option for non-employees; the message on the screen is similar to this: "Please choose your company from the list below. Not part of an organization? Choose the city team (#TeamSparkFindlay)." That is just an example, there is a #TeamSpark for each city listed in the challenge.

I know this is a lot to take in. Please ask questions if my info here is not clear.

Hello,

Catching up on a few items in this thread to update you with the latest.

emoticon First, our development team committed to have the SparkAmerica nutrition tracker up and running on August 15th so it will be there for you to use when SparkPeople closes. We are so happy they are able to accomplish this and I hope that eases things for many who were worried about our earlier news that it would not be immediately available.

@ARCHIMEDESII - After the shutdown, all data will be deleted. My understanding is that they considered saving an archived copy for a while; but, costs and legal considerations have ruled that out. Love your idea of spending all your SparkPoints!

@WOUBBIE - That is Atkins site so you will have to ask them about any future plans there. Sorry I just don't have an answer for you.

Take care, all! I truly hope this transition will end up good for everyone.

This feels so wrong. To shut down so soon ad completely. To exclude anyone outside the US going forward. To offer a link to an unfinished site that seems like a different product. For whatever your reasons, you've let a lot of us Spark People down.

This place has been my go-to for over 10 years. Don't know what I'll do now.

@SPARK_MERLE

Merle,

What happens to all the information that is saved in our PMs ? I do plan on deleting all my blogs, comments and old PMs. Also, what about all the messages in the various forums. Will all that information be deleted when the Spark People is website is shut down ?

While I do understand that most of this info would be considered public, I do wonder what happens after the website is gone. Is it gone too or saved on Spark guy's cloud ?

oh and I've decided that since Spark is going to be shutting down, I'm spending ALL my spark points on spark goodies. LOL

@SPARK_MERLE The Atkins site is "powered by SparkPeople" and I have begun transferring my recipes and such there. Is THAT going away too?

Hi USAF-RETIRED,

No, the SparkPeople exercise library is not being transferred into SparkAmerica. During our April challenge there, there were some exercise demos included in the challenge; but, not a library like you are used to here.

Also, until we build the Community feature in SparkAmerica, the only suggestion we have is the SP Alumni Facebook group. Sorry if you are not a Facebook user as there is not another option from us at this time.

Hello everyone!

The information in the article about SparkPeople closing in August is correct. We planned on making that announcement today; but somehow somebody located the article before the official announcement, and we are sorry that you had to find out this way. We will officially be making that announcement later today as planned and we truly do care about all of our members.

I am very sorry that people outside of the United States will not be able to join us on SparkAmerica.

Please note that we are still building out functionality on the new site. Nutrition tracking is on its way and community features after that. For now, we suggest checking out the Facebook group that is linked in the article. You will find some great, new articles on the new site, which is something many of you have been requesting.

Thank you so much for being part of our SparkPeople family all these years! I hope to see many of you at SparkAmerica.

It is a business, after all. Weight loss is a billion dollar business, and they need to get on board with that. Especially since the average person does not really ever get cured of over eating. Spark People wants a piece of the action, we are lucky they kept this going for so long.

I just rejoined because SparkPeople was a program that worked for me. I am tried Noom and really did not like it. Nor did SparkAmerica appeal to me. I guess I will have to find a new online health and fitness program. So disappointed.

Is it possible SparkAmerica is not yet ready? Since we still have access to features here, maybe they're not rolling them out on the new site till it gets closer to shutdown time? I'm not planning to login there until I get confirmation it's ready.

I’ve been a member of SparkPeople for about 10 years and have seen lots of changes over the years but this is the first time that it is a total disbanding! I’ve joined SparkAmerica but I don’t see it as being very helpful! Not sure how long I will use it, but I will give it a try. ARCHIMEDESII, I agree wholeheartedly. It pains me that this is excluding international Spark members.

JEFFGIRL, SparkPeople is closing down on August 17, 2021. From what I've read, and heard from others, they'll be primarily focused on providing wellness programs to companies and other institutions instead of individuals. Note - I do not know this for sure, but I joined "SparkAmerica" that they mentioned and it does seems geared that way, at least for now. People are saying it's all about the money and that may well be, as they mention in the article I linked in a prior post that it costs millions of dollars to run SparkPeople yearly.

I always feared this would happen because SparkPeople, when I joined in 2010, was just too good to be true. I had a feeling it couldn't last forever. If something isn't making a lot of money for investors, then they're going to change their direction or business model - just my opinion.

I love SparkPeople, at least the people.

@MILLER-S

I agree with your daughter.

Having the announcement posted in a forum that doesn't have much traffic implies they don't want to deal with any fallout from the international members who will find out that SparkAmerica is for Americans only (at this time).

That is disappointing because I personally learned a lot about good health and well being from our international members.

The desire for good health is global.

In my opinion and experience, SparkPeople has always tended to do things "on the down low" when it comes to making changes over the years. My daughter says it's cowardly.

I'd like to know why this article is buried in the nutrition section and not on the Spark home page or community feed where they will reach more members.

I understand the need to evolve as a company, but this doesn't strike me as the best way to inform members of that upcoming change.

Yes, I just joined Spark America and had a look around, but it doesn't even come close to the current SparkPeople. Oh well. One team I belong to started a private Facebook group with the same name as the Spark team. That way we can stay in touch even when Spark closes down. There's always the Facebook SparkPeople Alumni page, too. Not the same, but I guess good things can't last forever.
