Hi there!

The tips from others are a good starting point for weights. You could also consider light cardio -- such as walking on a treadmill for a few minutes -- as a warm-up.

I'm noticing nobody is offering to be an accountability partner though, so I would like to offer to be one. The SparkTeams, I've been told, are great, but the bigger ones also mean a bigger risk that your needs won't be addressed (personal experience and not just from here).

Feel free to reach out. Nice to have you here. :)

Welcome back!! Use the Food Tracker along with going to the gym and you will have all the tools you need. The teams are also a great resource as well.
Best of luck to you!

Welcome Back Antoniette -

This is my sixth time back on SparkPeople. My suggestion is update your SparkPage and allow people to visit to build on friends here who can support, cheer and you can do that also.

As to the weights, when you no longer feel much after a workout it is time to increase. If the weights seem too easy to move - not straining but you feel you can do the exercise for ages then up the weight.

Welcome!

Best advice I can give is that food determines weight, and exercise builds strength.

Best of luck to you!

More important than the gym is the diet. Using the food tracker is where success begins since it shows you exactly what you're doing and from there you can determine what to do next. Be very honest and accurate with your entries and it won't fail you. Good luck with your goals and welcome back to SparkPeople!

Hi Antoinette,

Welcome Back!
Is there a trainer at your gym who could answer your weight training question? Hopefully you can get the answers you are looking for.

Best of luck as you continue your Spark journey.

Welcome back to sparkepeople so glad you have returned

Consider going to your sparkpage and updating it - when you do this remember to put the date of the update = that way when we come to say hi we can read how you are doing

Also remember to participate as often as possible on all the groups you have joined as that is where you will be encouraged and motivated

Hi My name is Antoinette and I am back for the 3rd time. I have started here so many times and gradually quit. I am (currently) dedicated to lose this weight. I am looking for support and friends. I also am looking for accountability partners.
I have joined a gym and I have gone every day this week so far and plan on continuing to do so.
I am 51 and weigh 376 and honestly I am such a picky eater, I do not know how and in addition I do not eat a lot! I do not have a weight number I want to get down to but I do know what size I want to be ...between a 18-22.
What I really want and need to know is when should I increase my weights and or times on weight machines?
