Building good habits and firm discipline takes time, so go easy on yourself by starting slowly and building gradually. Once you're certain something is a solid habit, proceed to the next goal... but not until you're sure you're in control. The worst thing you can do is overload yourself and get discouraged. The sure and certain way to win this war is to never, ever, quit. Welcome back to SparkPeople!

Welcome!!! So glad you are here. That's amazing, I am also an ex smoker and it's hard. We also have the same weight goals. I am currently close to the same weight as you are.

Best of luck to you! This is a great place for support!

Welcome!

First off, congrats for quitting smoking! As a former smoker myself, I know how hard it is. And I too gained after quitting. Spark People really helped me get healthy again.
Using all the tools here will help you reach your goals. Be active on the site by reading blogs, articles, and participating on your Spark Teams. The Nutrition and Fitness trackers are also great tools for keeping you in check.

Best of luck to you! You can do it!

I have tried many times to lose weight and keep it off since I stopped smoking 7 years ago. I have tried counting calories, I have tried low carb and that did work for a while but I started craving fruit and potatoes. Now trying this again I truly hope that this time I can hit my goal. My starting weight is 179 and I do have arthritis in both hips and back so I think if I can lose about 30 pounds that will help the hip pain

Never Give up!
