I don't know if it's because I had physio on Thursday, or that I started taking CBD again on Saturday, but my shoulder injury is almost gone, and I have zero knee pain when it's taped up.

Since your knees have been acting up, you might want to consider two days of rest this week instead of one. Maybe concentrate on upper body workouts to give those needs some extra recovery time.

Otherwise, you're going to end up like Bobby Orr.

I missed my rest day last week because my husband guilt tripped me into doing XC practice with my son on my rest day. I won't be doing that again.

ZORBs,

Slimmer does make a very good point. Even certified trainers and people who've been working in fitness for years, need to have their form checked. Why ? We can all get a little lax when we do a routine we've been doing for years.

If the knee is hurting now, how long have you been allowing for recovery ? If you've been ignoring warning signs from your body, it's not a surprize to see an increase in injuries.

Have you noticed any injuries or aches that seem to take longer to heal ?

When I was going to a Pilates Class taken by a qualified Pilates Instructor/Practicing Physiotherapist, a top International Pilates Instructor came to take the class in place of our normal instructor, who did the class as one of us. They BOTH told us at the beginning that often the instructors need to be repositioned because sometimes the 'poor form' has to be observed by someone else. Guess what??? Most of our usual instructor's positions needed repositioning LOL! Maybe that is what is happening with you?

Just a thought.

Hope the hurts stop

ZORBS13,

While everyone should use good form when strength training, if you're noticing an increase in injuries, maybe it's time to change your strength training routine.

It is also possible you are not taking enough time between workouts for your body to recover. as we age, our muscle fibers DO require more recovery time. So if you think your ST workout is fine, maybe increase your recovery time. your body might need two days between workouts instead of one now.

That's the fun of growing old. Your body just doesn't recover as fast. Ask any football player. LOL

Zorbs, sorry to hear you are injured. I hope you heal quickly so you can get back at it. I am sure there is a race calling your name.

lol I am nowhere near a senior and I used to be a personal trainer 10 years ago, so I think I know what I am doing in the weight room.

I feel you! Please don't give up.

As a 50+ year old, I was able to join our local senior center. They have a small gym, but won't let anyone use it unless they take a 6-week strength training course.

I whined and felt I didn't need it, but took it anyway. What an eye-opening experience! Unlike a trainer that spends an hour touching on all the machines, they were slow and patient and made absolutely certain that we were using the right settings, weight and that our bodies were in form to prevent injury.

I can't recommend this enough. If you can, find out if there are longer, more detailed strength-training courses in your area. Check you local senior centers and YMCAs. I promise it will help immensely.

Good luck and strength to you!

Oddly enough, this happens a lot more often than people realize. It's not really about growing old. the more active we become, the more likely we become injured.

I used to work in a gym teaching group exercise classes. A member once asked me what do fitness instructors talk about ? Do they talk about the latest diet ? the latest workout craze ? the 5k race they are running ?

NOPE. do you know what we talked about ? our injuries !

No joke. what happened to you ? No kidding. that happened to me. Did you go to your doctor ? What did they say ?

Fitness instructors are in the best shape, aren't they ? the truth is, we get injured just like anyone else.

The fact of life is this,"if you are active, you will eventually sustain an injury". Now, if you take care of yourself and (as my yoga instructor once said) don't abuse, you'll decrease the risk for injury, but never avoid it.

My yoga instructor got injuries. the zumba instructors got injuries. I taught strength training. I got injuries.

I keep getting injured from strength training. 10 years ago, an imperfect rep here and there wouldn't have done a thing, now every single rep has to be absolutely perfect, or else, bam! injury. I feel really old now.
