I wanna say that building muscle and losing fat are 2 completely different things. Yes you can build muscle but not as much or as easy as when you were younger. And yes of course you can still lose fat. One thing to remember, exercise does not build muscle directly, it only tears it down. It's the rest and nutrition afterwards that rebuilds the muscle a little bigger and stronger than before. As you age, the recoup/rebuild of the muscle takes longer. So you would be advised to do a little reading and decide on the best frequency for you. Good luck and by all means go for it!

You absolutely can body build at 50, although I expect it will be more difficult than when you were younger for a variety of reasons.

Just briefly googling I found a piece by the New York times on older body builders who didn't use steroids. It's inspiring, and some of them are pretty crazy impressive.

Obviously the more extreme results are extreme, and not the result of a three day a week at-home casual lifting program with bar bells. You'll have to work much harder than a 25 year old to get in that sort of shape (and it takes most 25 year olds a decent amount of work in the first place). But yeah, you can absolutely mold yourself if your mind's really in it.

As for the loose skin... I'm not sure how to best deal with that. I know it's common with significant weight loss, an some girls I've known have been pretty annoyed by it (on the upside, congrats on your weight loss! 32 pounds is awesome).

And yeah lifting for older folks provides good health benefits even at lower levels.

Well I just turned 50 this August, and it certainly takes more work to get results than it did when I was in my 30s.

Tony Horton once said "Abs are made in the kitchen" - so I believe eating according to your goals. I know if I can cut out desserts I've won. I know if I can reduce portion size for every meal that will help.

I started to workout again, Traditional free weights at home. I lost 32lbs sense July and my belly is starting the show flab (Loose skin), not sure how to fix this?

I am wondering about bodybuilding non professionally, just to be looking Awesome.

There are a lot of routines out there, but I'm doing it old school with free weights at home and tradition routine: Mon, Wed and Fri four exercises per body group.

not sure at my age if Ill get rid of that loose skin?

My Vision Statement:
To get off of my medications; Cholesterol statin, Hypothyroid levothyroxine,after effects from statin is hitting my quads and sharp pain in knees, to finish a marathon and too get at my healthy weight at 146lbs, so I can look better and do more things; to be able to work more active jobs, run a marathon, wear better clothes- more of a variety and feel better. To have more energy and get rid of my sleep apnea. I am feeling more energetic and sleeping better.
