I just had a peak at your Nutrition Tracker and found that there is another food you have eaten which is also high in Vitamin A

Nutrition Facts

Now compare it to a whole grapefruit

The danger of Vitamin A Toxicity is mainly from supplements. Altho' it isn't impossible to overdose with food alone, it is very hard to. The upper recommended limit for women is 700mcg but the toxic level is over 3,000 mcg.

If you are concerned, talk with your Dr who can do blood tests to see if it is a problem for you. If you take Vitamin Supplements, including Multivits, discuss this with your Dr because most people don't need them if they are eating a healthy balanced diet AND they don't have health issues, such as Crohn's or IBS type conditions.

I would also suggest that you ask for a referral to a Registered Dietitian who can help you.

You might find this article useful in determining if your choices are actually giving you too much or too little of any vitamin: www.sparkpeople.com/resource/reference_vit
amins.asp

If it really is Vitamin A that you are concerned with on your grapefruit days, then it isn't the grapefruit that is the issue. A regular grapefruit only has about 56% of your RDA of Vitamin A in a red / pink type, or around 1% in a white type - and it is in the form of beta carotene, which is not an issue for over-consumption. Excess beta carotene is excreted by the body without being converted in to Vitamin A.

If you meant Vitamin C, though, then a whole grapefruit will have 120-150% RDA in it. Since Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin, this is also not an issue, since any excess will just be excreted by the body.

As mentioned, the main issue with grapefruit is that it can badly interfere with many medications. If you are taking anything regularly, then you should double check with your pharmacist to find out if grapefruit might be an issue for you.

If you are not on any meds, then kudos on finding a healthy fruit that you really enjoy! No worries about the nutrient content - your body will use what it needs and excrete the rest.

Sir Terry Pratchett: "Science is not about building a body of known 'facts'. It is a method for asking awkward questions and subjecting them to a reality-check, thus avoiding the human tendency to believe whatever makes us feel good."

"The Inuit Paradox" ( discovermagazine.com/2004/oct/inuit-
paradox
): "...there are no essential foods—only essential nutrients. And humans can get those nutrients from diverse and eye-opening sources. "

The big thing to watch out for with grapefruit is medication interactions. If you are on any medications, consult with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure that you are good to go.

A whole grapefruit according to the nutrition tracker only has 10% of your RDA of Vitamin A. Either white or red.

Are you sure that's where you are getting it from? Are you adding an incorrect user added entry for it?

I think you would need to eat a whole lot of grapefruit before you would have to worry about overdosing on vitamin A. Enjoy your daily grapefruit.

Depends on how far over you're going. Here's the Mayo Clinic page on Vitamin A
