I'm just starting back up again. My mind is finally in the right place and I'm ready to get stronger, healthier, and thinner. I feel like I've started aging and know that if I would just lose 20 pounds and exercise more frequently that I could feel younger. I teach and I've used the excuse that now that school's started back up, I don't have time to ride my bike, garden or do any of the other activities I love. However, last week I started a Zumba class on Monday nights and enjoyed the 60 minutes of sweating. I've since joined the campus recreation center and plan to attend two classes this week in addition to the Zumba. At a minimum, I will workout 10 minutes a day. I've also decided to cut out extra sugar this week. Sweets are my downfall and when I eat sweets, I lose all control over what I eat. Let the journey begin1

Hi I'm Kim, Maci is my motivator and I noticed on her page the challenge 12 lbs off by 12/12/12. I just have to join that challenge and I want to be a part of a group in which most are over 50 and have less than 25 lbs to lose. that's me.
I'm 52 and I weigh about 150. I will be happy to get to 140 but really want to get to 135. Sounds so easy, only 15 lbs but its the stubborn lbs that I've been striving to lose since 2007. In 2007 I went down to 136 and then of course gained most of it back. Not this time. I've been maintaining at 150 for at least 6 months. This is the perfect time for me to get back there and go one lb more for a personal goal. Haven't been 135 and lower since before my 21 year old "baby" was born.
I'm a single (not yet divorced) NY'er. Maci will remember me when I was married and living in PA. Things change and luckily for the better. I am so much happier now, its amazing what a lifestyle change will do. Thanks for having me. kim

Wow. Losing 9 pounds is so great! You're awesome. I've lost 6 and have been doing some walking and biking and yoga - I've actually lost 10, then celebrated by eating junky stuff and being lazy! Guess what happened - yup, re-gained some back. Oh well, back to doing what works - for me it was going for walks in the mornings. I usually go when I get off work (which is 730AM I work 12 hour night shifts). I'm using the Nike Running app to track and it plays all the music on my phone in random order during the walks. The GPS keeps up with where and how far you've gone and it's fun to go back and look at how much you've walked(or ran).

Keep on Truckin'

Thank you all for your postings! You are such an encouragement to me!!!

I'll be 60 in a few weeks, and 2 months ago I got the notion that I wanted to get my weight down to 160 by my birthday. Well, it hasn't happened, mainly because I couldn't stay on track.

I'm 178 pounds and that's the heaviest I've EVER been in my life!!!! and I don't like it!!!! emoticon

Looks like there are several others in my weight and age range.
I hope we can encourage one another and that each of us will be successful.

Hi everyone,
I have been on and off Spark for a few years. I joined again this past June, I think. My motivation was that my cholesterol was up past 100 for the first time in my life! My Dr. said he would give me a year to get my weight down and learn to exercise regularly in order to try to get my cholesterol down naturally. Otherwise, he will have to put me on medication for it. He wants me to be at 100, as my heart is otherwise healthy and the only other issue is high blood pressure, which, by the way is getting better as I lose more weight.
I was a member of this group a while back but left it as I got depressed because I gained too much weight last winter and went back up to 170 pounds! That is the heaviest I have ever been. This summer I dropped 9 pounds in the month of July just by tracking my calories and nutrient intake daily and changing how I eat! I began being very careful about fat and sugar content of foods, especially whether or not the fat was animal fat or vegetable, saturated or omega 3, etc. I have been really focusing on eating healthy vegetable fats primarily, and trying not to eat meat except one meal a day, and only about 3 -4 ounces. I have been avoiding foods that are processed as much as I can in order to avoid hydrogenated fats and those awful sugars. I still eat some sweets, but get my sugars by eating fruit and vegetables rather than in any processed foods. Today, I got to within 15 pounds of my ultimate goal, which is 140 pounds. I have not been that slim since I was 30 years old!!! I would be so happy if I can get there and stay there.

Dena T.

My name is Rhonda and I've lost 50 pounds exercising and using SP. I started the journey 3 years ago and have been at the same weight for the past 18 months. I am working on new ideas to start losing again. I am 50 (in April 2012), pretty sure have started menopause and really struggling with the fat roll around the middle. I can't seem to keep within my calories because I'm hungry so am working on changing up the food intake. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week and work in additional movement when and where I can (going to an office instead of sending email, use stairs, 10 minutes afternoon walk when possible, etc).

Hi everyone.....this is my second attempt at sparkpeople to lose weight. I tried in the spring and lost but gained back all that I lost. I am 51 and have slowly put on about 20 lbs in the last 2 years. I sit at a desk all day and then with 4 girls (2 in college) my life is crazy. Hoping to get back on track...eating healthy and exercising as much as I can. Decided to join this page to keep myself accountable!!

Welcome new members! At our age we all have challenges, but together we will figure out how to do this. As for nutrition vs. exercise, it's different for everyone. I think for my own weight loss, exercise is at least as important as diet.

I like the "80% nutrition and 20% exercise". That gives me hope. I "want to want to exercise" but it has not become part of my daily routine yet. I am starting on the food part, though, and have lost 4 pounds this first week. I really was overeating! I am going for "no desserts, except on Sunday and portion control."

Hi...I originally joined this site in June 2006 under the username MYLIFESTYLE and this is a team that I joined, too. I am now going under a new username because I couldn't remember the old one...lol.

I am at a place where exercise is a consistent factor in my life and eating healthier than years past. I have a lot more knowledge that it's all about 80% nutrition and 20% exercise to make big changes. I am at a plateau right now (hanging around 160-162lbs) which is okay but losing another 10lbs would be the icing on the cake so to speak.

I hope to find ideas and support along with giving it back in return to reach my goals.

Pamela...Southeast Texas

I will not complain about aging because we have no control over that, but, none of us should allow our bodies to decay/rot which is all voluntary. It is up to each of us to do three things: exercise, use good nutrition, and commit to something or someone that brings us joy daily for the rest of our lives. (excerpt from Next Year Younger For Women book). My new motto!

Hi, Sunkissed. Welcome to the club of needing to lose weight! You can do it! About the exercise, what about a warm jacuzzi or a heated swimming pool? There should be something available in Houston. Hope you find something that meets your needs! But donīt give up!

Hi! I am excited to be here. I am one of those who has bought into every diet out there, and have come to the realization that I don't even KNOW how to eat right any more. I'm excited to be on a healthy eating plan that doesn't starve me or leave me feeling lethargic. At 52, I am about 30 pounds heavier than what I was in my 20's and 30's. I'm shooting to lose 20 pounds, but I will be happy to weigh in 10 pounds lighter! :) Looking forward to supporting all of you, and working together to our mutual success! It's coming off!! Woo Hoo!! :D

Hi, to be clear, I am NOT a chef, lol, just a person interested in cooking more at home, so I took that user name when I returned to sparkety spark.

I am currently trying to get to 125 pounds by December 30!

'Bout covers it. Glad to meet you.
