I don't know if this will help you or not. I selected not to have my fitness tracker communicate with my nutrition tracker as I was confused like you when I first started out. This can be done at the bottom in the edit nutrition. That way only the food I am eating show up as calories tracked required for the day on the nutrition tracker. My fitness doesn't figure into the calculations. My set range is always the same between 1200 - 1500. This way I know I am only eating just the calories my body requires. The fitness that I do each day is extra calories I am burning up each day and to find out how many calories I actually burned each day I go to the reports and check the Calories in and Calories out differential to see how much calories I have actually burned during the day. -143 means I burned 143 calories off of what I ate that day. I still eat the 1200 calorie minimum which is necessary but my exercise brings my calorie down to 1157. I hope this makes sense to you and you are able to adjust your food intake and exercise so you are losing weight again.
I haven't read that zig-zag article yet but it may have to do with your activities needing a changing up. When our bodies get used to a certain level of activity our metabolism settles in to a comfort zone. Changing up your activities shakes up the metabolism and gets it back working again. Spring is here and it's a great way to get different kinds of exercising than what you were doing during the winter months. Gardening is my switch up because I use so many more muscles than my regular routines.

To me HEALTH means Energy. Stamina. Flexibilty. A relatively pain free body. Enjoying healthy food. You are your body, and your weight loss efforts will succeed exactly to the extent that you mange to do the work on behalf of your embodied self. You’ll do much better when you focus on making positive changes to improve your health and well-being, rather than on fighting your bad habits.
