Focusing on positives like the suicide awareness walk and the puppy is great. I hope that you connect with the support group. Good luck to you on your journey.

Yes, I am in therapy and a support group is starting soon. It has been hard to find the right group. In addition to helping Sam, I have adopted my next door neighbors 10 month old puppy this week. Puppy training, plus helping my older dog adjust to the puppy, has kept me quite busy and made me smile.

Next week is the annual Out of the Darkness suicide awareness walk and I'm trying to put together a team. That is taking quite a bit of my time, but it's good to focus on something that will help others while honoring my son's memory.

Believe in yourself and follow your dreams.

Yes, Katherine, so very sorry for the loss of your son. Are you attending any help groups in your area to help with all this? I have one sparkfriend who has experienced a similar situation to yours. Is there anything I can do for you? I am not on SP as much as I was in the past but I too have an email set up with this group and can be a listening ear.

I'm so sorry for your loss Katherine. The loss of a child of any age is a terrible burden, and I'm sad that there are so many who live with this grief. I admire your strength in finding your way back to a healthy path in your life, and finding a bit of happiness in looking after your friend's child. Helping out a child is a wonderful way to honour Donald's memory and to give yourself something to look forward to throughout the week :)

I'm afraid this group is not very active, but I have it set up to email me when anyone posts a new topic (or replies to this one), so if you are looking for a sympathetic ear (or sympathetic screen as it may be!), please don't hesitate to post...I usually respond more quickly than I did to this one :/

I have been trying to find a team for people who have lost a child. Not necessarily an infant, although that is such a hard thing to bear. But, an older child or adult child.

My name is Katherine. I'm 53. I am single (divorced for 14 years).. My only child, a son of age 22, died by apparent suicide on August 18, 2012, just 2 days after starting his final semester in college. I was already being treated for anxiety and depression, as well as chronic migraine, fibromyalgia, and several other chronic health issues. My son's death made all of that much worse. For a time, I did not worry about exercise or nutrition, but am back on a path to better health now.

The loss of a child is a type of grief that is so unlike any other grief. I've lost a part of me...my body, my heart, my soul. It has gone with him to heaven. His name is Donald. We were extremely close.

So, just wanted to introduce myself. Today, not so bad. I babysit my best friend's 7 year old a couple of afternoons each week, helping with homework, etc. So, any Sam day is always better.

Believe in yourself and follow your dreams.
