Seems you and I have a lot in common.
I am going to be 71 next month. I have one stint and a by-pass.
I to have become a couch potato more then I ever have been - until the heart problems and health issues my husband had (he passed away last March) I was very active going and doing about every day....now most days I sit and watch tv....I try to do a few things around the house but can't handle much. Even after the stint I still have shortness of breath alot.
thank heaven for my daughter and son-in-law ....he mows my yard and my daughter cleans my house.
Maybe we can communicate and help each other out!

Hi! That is one of my problems too the portion control. I try to just serve up the meal & put the rest away.

HI - I am joining because man do I need to make a change! I have been yo-yo dieting for years..I had major health issues last couple years and lost 50 pounds, but now that I am getting back to normal I have gained most of it back!
Really need to find motivation to commit and stick with eating less. My main problem is I LOVE food!
I think my main problem is portion control - how do I get that under control????????

This is an interesting topic. Most of us have a time or two needed to change our ways.

Right now I am tracking my food intake. Seems like a good place to be at this time

Just start out slow and build yourself up. That is the best way to go. I found if I did too much too soon I didn't stick with. it.

I am still learning how to get around in here so didn't realize I had replies. When I found this again I decided to try this and not go to tops. I may change my mind at a later time but would rather not spend the money if I don't have to.

Nice to meet you River. I have been with Spark for many years now and have found everyone to be so supportive and the information is amazing. Hope you will join the chat with us. It is a fun group. I walk 60 minutes a day but do in in 15 minute increments. I have COIPD and some things are hard for me to do. Enjoy and post often.

5'1.5" - I shrunk from 5'4"
Residents of Arizona (as of Sept. 2017)
Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of May 2019. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2019 to be back to below 155.

Welcome River,

Nice to meet you, come join us on the chat (that is where everyone hangs out). Glad to read that you are going to TOPS, while I have never been there, heard a lot of good things about it. Sparks can be wonderful and reading the articles and getting into a challenges helps. I have rejoined WW, (a life time member since the 70's).

Stay warm, know that Florida has gotten hit with cold weather.

Every day I am on the verge of making slight changes that would make all the difference in my life.

One day I won't be able to do this, but today is not that day

Welcome! This is a great forum with lots of support. I have a hard time staying motivated but find if I do something first thing in the morning I feel more energized throughout the day. Good luck!

I am 73 and moved to Fl in July 2015, could not handle cold anymore. My weight gain is more from lack of exercise then overeating, although I don't eat the right things. I had to have 2 stents in my heart in Oct 2015. I think that didn't help my exercise much but I have turned in to a couch potato that watches TV probably 8 or more hours a day. I am on statin drug that gives me leg pain but if I walk in the pool makes a big difference but pool closes in late Sept. I tried joining Y but just didn't work out. I rediscovered this site that I joined in 2009 but didn't do anything with and decided I would try this. I was all set to join TOPS next Monday but want to try this first. I bought a treadmill and am trying to walk on it (I started with 8 minutes but admit have not been consistently using it). Yesterday I made 10 minutes and will try to do that twice today. I have a big closet full of clothes that only about 25% can I wear comfortably. I am a born again Christian and believe in prayer. Anyway this is an introduction to this group and looking forward to interacting with you. I also have an 6 qt Instant Pot and welcome recipes. Have a Blessed day.
