When you add a favorite to your food tracker is there a way to edit it or delete it if you mess up? I've messed up several times and can't figure out how to get rid of the screwed up entries. emoticon

I also don't see a way to link my online and mobile. It only says register and wants me to pick a new username, etc.

I've used this app in the past, but I just installed it again.

I love SP and am very new to my iTouch, but I would love the capability of using this app on the go. I tried to load the app on my iTouch and it says it is installed. But I can't find it anywhere on the iTouch. Can anyone help, please? (I'm technically-challenged and my eleven year old couldn't even help me out although he's done more downloading with the iTouch than me... LOL) Thanks!!!

One day at a time!

Mind you, I'm not consistent (yet!)... still learning to use this app and even to remember that I actually have the app. I didn't get the app when it first came out - think I only got it like two weeks ago?? I forget. I'm sure there's a cybertrail somewhere between here and iTunes and my phone.

But...

Thurs. March 5th I walked 28 minutes

Sat. March 7th I walked 37

but when I look on the web site, it says my weekly cardio totals is only 17 minutes. The website still overwhelms me because I've noticed when I was on the website and plugged in my walking minutes in the "My Tools/My Fitness" it did not seem to change the totals on the right for SparkWichita and SparkAmerica - seems like I have to go in those areas and update those separately??

okay so on my phone, the only thing that shows up 17 minutes was March 2nd when I went to the Y and walked 17 minutes on the dreadmill ... errr I mean, the treadmill. That shows up on the website as 17 minutes, and thus, my entire 17 minutes for the whole week or month or whatever it was I said.

But I'm wondering if the "walking" description was too ambiguous and so somehow the website just rejected the number that I was sending from the iPhone?

Thanks!

Hi Dave,
I got the SP app for iPhone but I don't seem to find my minutes posted here on the PC after plugging them into the iPhone. Is this something that syncs to my PC and then up to SparkPeople? Or is it something that syncs through the wi-fi or 3G? I plugged in some fitness minutes last week on my iPhone app, but they are not showing up here on the PC version of SP...

Not sure what I am doing wrong...

Thanks!

Hi, just now found your note... I don't always get down here to check on the mail. I have the 2.1 or whatever latest greatest firmware for my iPhone 3G. I'm now using the new iPhone app - was reading through here, may yet find out, why the fitness time I recorded on the mobile app has not been reflected on my PC version of SparkPeople?? So anyway I'll keep looking! Thanks!

If it wasn't for my addiction to the iPhone I never would have found SparkPeople! Not sure if it's the chicken or the egg. Regardless both are great cooked!!

I love SP and have already had several friends join (in the 24 hours since I have)

Would love to see updates; like my sparkpoints, spark blog, sync w/ the food search database. Just more, more, more

I need my fix!!! emoticon

there is an Iphone app for sparkpeople as of 2/13/09 i believe.
it is basic and will do what you need it to do but it is not as robust or polished like lose it or livestrong. I think in further updates it will get better. Im hoping for - Goals, Calories for the day, menus etc.

am assuming it may also be limited due to the fact sparkpeople generates its income thru adds and still needs us to come here(online) for the "click thrus". Ive seen ads on other iphone apps maybe they will take a page from them as well as "lose it"

overall experience = nice attempt (im sure updates are to come)

Thanks again sparkpeople for listening!

Yes please and iPhone app!!!! I am also using lose it! which is free and awesome but I feel like I'm doing twice the work posting my food & exercise there and here...I emailed spark people regarding this issue and they said they were working on it...I hope so!! The mobile site had many limitations, mainly not being able to track water consumption so I am eagerly awaiting a application for my iphone.

Seriously though, the iPhone is the biggest selling mobile device on the market so certainly there must be a lot of us Sparkies that have one, it only makes sense to give us an app.

I'm using Absolute Fitness 2.1 on my iPhone and I paid almost $15 for it. I like it a lot because I can track hours slept, food, exercise, water, weight, bmi, blood pressure, etc. I will graph your progress in all areas and is exportable to my PC. I'm also working with my doctor and she also wants a copy of my food diary and exeercise log. It has a great feature that you can customize the foods, portions, etc, and of course add things as favorites. I love it. However, I don't love having to come and enter everything again here at SP. I love SparkPeople so it is worth it to me to enter it both places, but it would be SO nice to do it all in one spot and like the others, I would pay.
Thanks for caring!

Quote: I recently started using SparkPeople & the IPhone. Is there anything out there that can be used on the IPhone as the Nutrition/Fitness & Water Tracker? I really need to be able to keep accountability throughout the day to keep me on target. Any suggestions? Keep up the great work -- LOVE this website!

Hi - I'm new to this team - but I've been using "lose it!" (free from the iTunes app store) and "My health Coach" (5 bucks in the app store.)

Using both together is great! Lose it! is a calorie tracker and the interface is really awesome and easy to use. My one complaint about it is that the food database is a little on the limited side, so at first, yo have to enter a lot of things. As you progress, though, it gets easier as it stores your entries.

My Fitness Coach is ADORABLE! I love that app, and it makes me laugh everyday. It's a little stick figure, and she (if you're a woman - if you're a man, they give you a little guy, I suppose.) gives you challenges every day. For example a "minute" challenge would be "Make yourself a cup of Herbal Tea" - and a 24 hour challenge would be something like - "walk 2000 steps today" or, drink 8 glasses of water.

I think you could use Lose It! by itself, if you didn't need motivation, but My Fitness Coach is great for challenging you - espcially if you're goal-oriented, like I am.

Hope you them!

XOXO K.

Mrsdrpepper... do you know which firmware version you have on your iPhone. Older versions had problems with mobile Safari and cookies (those things that save your log in information). However, if you've upgraded to the new 2.0 or higher the problem should have been fixed.

Yes!! I agree - I hadn't really had time to mess with the mobile SparkPeople, kept forgetting it was an option. I finally got off my rear end and went for a walk this evening and thought, hey! I could plug the minutes into my iPhone and not have to get on the PC. WRONG.

I got the screen saved as a home screen like was suggested, but every time I turn around, jump here, go there, I have to LOG in again!

The other thing I didn't like about saving it to home screen is that I couldn't select our Wonderful SparkPeople graphic. So I get this ugly white icon and I have to squint real hard to read the tiny print under it (and the others - same for other sites I go to like GasBuddy etc) - I can't pick the graphic I want to use (you know how you can do that when you save a favorite website on your Facebook profile, for those of you who use Facebook? - you can save the graphic that best represents the website to you.).

So the idea of a native icon or whatever it was mentioned earlier, that sounds good to me. I like our cute SparkPeople logo!!

Hi everyone

I just created another SparkTeam for SparkPeople to get input from iPhone users on a potential application. We're not promising we'll build one, but we want to find out what you all would like to see in an application. This will help us scope out the project to see what it would take to build.

So please stop over, join the team, and give your input!

It would really be nice to have a native iphone app. I have the home screen link & don't have problems logging in but the mobile page is slow and not as iphone friendly (large fingers need not apply!). an app that syncs, like the livestrong app for the daily plate (which i may convert to if spark doesn't put out a native iphone app) would be nice.

I created a short cut on my home screen and I do not have to log in when I click on it. I just added a second one next to the first one that is for the browse restaurant foods page. I do not have to log in to use either link. Try adding a short cut on your home screen and see if that takes care of your log in problem.

Count me in as well! I'm finally getting my iPhone this weekend and would love to have a way of keeping track of my nutrition and fitness through this. Better yet, wish I knew how to develop applications! This would be a gold mine opportunity now that the app store has taken off like it has.

Love the mobile page. Thanks for giving us that. If you could make the font larger, and maybe add a water tracker, it would be great! A full-fledged AppStore app would be fantastic! Just think: if 5000 Spark users each bought it at $.99, you'd have $3700 for the work you'd have to do on it. $1.99 and you'd double that. Much more expensive and you'll lose a few folks.

There are a bunch of folks in my company who could turn out a simple app like this in a week, for about half of the revenue you're talking about here.

Using the existing webpage:
For those iPhone/iPod Touch users who have trouble with logging in each time, I have a solution. Log in to your home page, then click the small "+" icon in the bottom bar. This will allow you to put an icon on your home page. Name it something easy, like "Spark". When you click it from now on, it will open a new MobileSafari page and log in automatically.

Oooh! Me too! I would gladly pay for a Sparkpeople app for the iPhone. That way I wouldn't have to use Safari, and I wouldn't have to put in my name and password every time. That would be awesome!

I don't have any loading problems with the mobile version on my iPodTouch (which is like the iPhone). But I have problems with the fields being to narrow and tiny that I often select the wrong one. The options are not well spaced for the iPhone.

Also it would be great if the mobile version had more funtionality (like adding food items manually to my favorites, or being able to delete a wrongly entered food item).

There also seems to be a bug in the program. Often I cannot see the last (bottom) selection in the pull-down menu for quantities. Since that one is usually the grams (which happened to be the ones I use most).

I am an iPT (that is iPodTouch) user, and I have tried the mobile version of SP. I think it would be great if there were an iPhone app; or at least a webversion that uses the iPhone interface better.

I've got an iTouch, so the ability to store data locally rather than have to access the internet is a huge selling point for me. Right now, I'm using iScale, and I'm very happy with it. I don't like that I have to enter my data twice (once in iScale, once in Spark People), but it's not a huge problem. It does help me remember what I ate so I can enter the data in SP later, and the developer is very active on the google group. Right now he's accepting beta applications for the next version of the application (iscale-discussion@googlegroups.com).

The newest version of iScale has field customization, so I'm going to test it for water tracking. The developer has a lot of ideas in the hopper, too, so I'm kinda excited to see where it might go.

I know this sounds like an ad for iScale, but I found it to be worth the $5 download (your mileage may vary).

I search the IPhone apps on a regular basis for a method of tracking my items. I recently visited my doctor--he is asking for my reports/charts to view my nutrition, fitness, journal, etc to see what I'm doing. If I could keep track of my daily input easily instead of adding my name, password, etc. I would love the application. In my busy daily lifestyle, my biggest excuse is that I don't have time to sit down and record my data--with the IPhone my data is with me constantly. I really need my SparkPeople to pull me through this---please?

Also a new iPhone user - LOVE this ability to use my iPhone to track during the day. In the past 6 months I have returned to work full time and reached my original Spark goals and have spent minimal time on the site, This gives me a tool to use on the go.

I had logged my food for the day on the computer, then discovered this new mobile app. When I logged onto it, all I had entered earlier was right here on the iPhone.

GREAT tool for me. The apps ideas sound like something to make it better yet.

I am also an iPhone user. An app store appliction could address all of the requests that I have seen so far, primarily: offline use, water tracking weight tracking, and exercise tracking. Of course the food look up and tracking could also be included. Everuthing I have read regarding other app store offerings indicate that sparkpeople has spoiled us and nothing compares to the features we hve become accustomed to. Please sparkpeople, help us out!! I would me willing to pay for an app that makes the full site accessible to us iPhone users.

Let me jump on this bandwagon! I have been not completely blown away by the app store options. I was thinking - I wish spark people had something. Additionally, I use a heart rate monitor to calculate my calories burned from a workout and love the fact that spark people let's me manually enter that. PLEASE give us an iPhone App. I would be willing to pay for it too!

Oh man I totally agree. If there was a way to log your info on the iphone/touch then upload it to the website and vice-versa it would be a godsend.

I downloaded a diet food tracker the other day but then I have to redo it at night here.

if only I burned some calories while redoing the work LOL

Count me in too. I'm going crazy with all the new App Store apps and I really want to use Spark on my iPod Touch instead of one of the other diet and exercise tools.

I agree - and have another idea. How about a free intro version, something to help people get introduced to SparkPeople, and then a full version that isn't free? If I could get on and add amount of water drank, remove and add food for the day, and maybe view articles or my groups, I would pay for it very quickly. I think that would be close to the best of both possible worlds.

I just logged into the mobile site--GREAT! I'm about to leave on a road trip and it's great to see I'll be able to keep up with my SP logging.

But, I'll second the idea of an iPhone app. I'd pay as well for that convenience, as my iPhone takes over my being tied to a computer more and more each day.

I'd pay for an iPhone app... if I could easily track daily nutrition and see progress without having to type in my user name and password every time... something that was formatted for the iPhone... $10 without thinking twice.

Free is good... but I am so grateful and IMPRESSED with what we get for free from sparkpeople already. I'd gladly pay for an iPhone app, just to support sparkpeople!

I completely agree about having a SparkPeople iPhone app. This would help us out. It would be great if it is free - there is only one free app and it's not very good.
It would also help people looking for weight loss help who've never heard of SparkPeople!

I access the mobile page through safari on my Iphone. Love it. I logged in all my calories this weekend from the pool, the car, the park. Anywhere, it is awesome!

With the new release of iPhone 2.0 and SDK will SparkPeople be taking advantage of any of these new features? I would love to track my progress on my iPodTouch and then upload my information to SparkPeople when I can connect to WiFi.

I recently started using SparkPeople & the IPhone. Is there anything out there that can be used on the IPhone as the Nutrition/Fitness & Water Tracker? I really need to be able to keep accountability throughout the day to keep me on target. Any suggestions? Keep up the great work -- LOVE this website!
