Thank you all for your great words of encouragement. A friend mentioned the couch to 5K workout schedule to me, which I looked up on the Coolrunning.com website. It looks like a great start-up plan. Good luck to all of you and keep in touch.

You can do this! I like the other poster's comments about "listen to your body"

We're designed with good biofeedback systems, LISTEN!

I have now completed 5.8 marathons (the 6th one I had to let go at mile 24, hence the .8 emoticon ). I started running by going from mailbox to mailbox in my subdivision (about 20 - 50 feet) at a time.

Take it easy. Maybe even jump over to Jeff Galloway's site to see about building up your mileage to 5K or whatever distance you want to work up to?

Sounds like you got the cardiovascular strength, and we just want to avoid injury. That's Jeff's specialty!

Glad you joined this happenin' team

First welcome to the team!!!

I too have returned to running after taking almost 5 months off due to an achy left knee. Just start out slow...doing the couch to 5k program is a great start. You're doing great with all of the exercise classes that you are taking!!! keep up the great work

Hello!
Welcome...
Looks like you stay pretty active with gym classes! WOW!
I take it you have run in the past and want to return to it...how about the Couch to 5K program? It starts you off pretty gently and builds you up to being able to run a 5K. It's a pretty popular training plan. Can Google it and you'll get a variety of versions based on the same basic plan.
Hope you had good luck with running shoes...did you get fitted for them? Best to you...start slow, be patient, you'll get there.

Hi,

Good for you! I got the NikePlus sportsband as a gift and it really helps track my progress. Seeing it tracked on the website and linking it to my Facebook account helps keep me accountable. It also has a program on the website to train for different length races. And I think there is a Couch to 5K group on Spark. Hope these suggestions help.
Good luck!

Hi, I am new to this group and would like to keep up on what's going on in the running world and what I should do to rekindle my love of running. Presently I work out at a health club and do: Step, Aerobic, Zumba, Power, and Groove classes. I'm afraid to run because I have gained so much weight after having 2 children and worry about the jolting on my joints from running. Every now and then my right knee acts up after taking more than one high impact class. Today I'm going out to buy some new running shoes and hope to begin slowly to build up my running stamina. I've printed out a few 8 week plans to help prepare me to run again. Take care and hope to
keep updated and motivated by everyone. emoticon
