actually, I was quite surprised how fast I got back from being 50+ lbs overweight to enjoying running again - I have not done any systematic training since college - and that's some 25 years back. I had not run over 1/2 mile if at all for over 5 years ... There is something different about this site - I love it.

Fgoettler, emoticon to the team.

I'll be doing a half just south of you on the same day. I'm doing the Lewis and Clark Half --- suburb just west of St. Louis. It's flat, and kind of ugly. I keep thinking someday I'll be able to travel to a half and select something prettier. Of course my impression of the course may be influenced by the fact that last year the remnants of hurricane Ike came through just during the half. Heavy, heavy rain and strong winds and flash flooding.

Glad to hear that you are having so much sucess.

Hi team,
I decided to lose some weight and picked up running again after my daughter talked me into running the Steamboat Classic ("World's fastest 4 mile race") in Peoria, IL. In the last 3 months I have lost 39 pounds, I "survived" the 4 miles in under 40 minutes. And now I want more! I am planning to run the IVS half marathon in Peoria on 9/13 (very tough course with lots of hills) - I will be hitting 50 in two weeks - God willing - and want to enter the "second half" in good shape.
I did my first magic mile yesterday (7:11) - and was amazed how fast I finished my regular short loop (3.5 miles) despite all the walking (8 minutes out of 33) - so there is something to this method, and I'm just getting started ...
