Hi! I have been a SP member for a while but not active. Just got sidetracked with life, and didn't get back on as often as I should have. I started at 258 pounds on a 5'1" frame. Guess I was the orginal 5x5. In October 2009, I had gastric bypass surgery.
I was having multiple health issues and my doctor told me that if I did not have the surgery or lose the excess weight I would not live to see retirement.
Since I am 65 now, that was a pretty harsh statement.
Anyway I had the surgery, I am now off all my meds,
(high blood pressure, gastric reflux, arthritis, water pill, asthma and others). I now weigh 193.2 pounds. My biggest problem is exercising. I have never liked it and am having a hard time getting a routine started and continuing with it. I hope this
bootcamp will help me keep a routine going until it becomes a habit. I think it takes about 3 weeks to a month of consistent effort to make a new habit.
I am so glad I have SP to help me. emoticon

Hello. My name is Jen. I lucked out and came up on this site. I can't believe I got this lucky. I've been reading books on eating healthy for life and wanted to start an exercise program as my New Year's Resolution. I'm ready to start on my challenge. I've been a couch potato for way too long. I'll need all the motivation I can get!!! emoticon

GOD, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, other people. The courage to change the things I can, Myself. And the wisdom to know the difference.

Hello everyone! I am Mary Lynn and I am brand new to Spark People. I am learning about the website and thought the bootcamp sounded like a great way to get going. I lost 45 pounds in 2009 through diet and exercise but managed to put almost 10 back on over the holiday season! I am trying to get motivated to lose 25 pounds in 2010 (kind of a bummer since it was 15 pounds just a few weeks ago!)

Hi, my name is Laura. I've been a member of Sparks for almost 2 years now. Wow the time has flown by. I started at 230 pounds and this morning I was 212. Yesterday I was 210. Go figure.... I don't know....I'm looking forward to a challenge. I'm stuck on a plateau and short of jumping off a cliff I've not been able to get myself out of the rut. Hoping this jump-starts my metabolism and start losing weight again.

It is well with my soul.

What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say.

Scary for me!! This is my first time in SparkPeople... I need to lose about 40 pounds, but for January, I will go for 5. I have some fairly significant diagnosed hormonal imbalances that make it h-a-r-d to lose weight... I am also nursing a 7-month-old, so I have to go slow and easy. :) However, much of this is a lifestyle focus for me... eating healthier, exercising consistently.

I'm looking forward to seeing what this is all about!!

Happy Boot-Camping!

Hey I've been on spark for a long time, started and stopped so many times its not funny. I started taking charge of my diet on Dec 27, and while the holidays gave me a lot to battle with food-wise, I haven't done much with exercise yet - mostly because my back has been killing me.

I'm hoping that working out will strengthen my resolve to keep going, and also help my back stop hurting so I can walk more and have energy. I'm looking forward to the challenge and seeing how everyone is looking and feeling by the end of the month.

Here's to success in 2010!

Maria

Hi, I am BettyBoo and I have been Sparking since the summer. I am 66 years old and need to lose weight and gain more mobility and strength. I am the Mawmaw of four very active grandkids and I would like to keep up. So far, I have lost 15 pounds and I have quite a way to go. I am down to 218 pounds and I would like to get down to 180 and below. I know that I can do this. So bring it on. Lets get started.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Once the journey has started, one must continue on until the goal is reached.

I hope I'm doing this right! My name is Tammy, I work full time at the VA (which is where I heard about Spark People). I'm married to a wonderful man and between us, we have 4 adult children.

I turn 50 this year and the middle age spread has struck! I've had many excuses for it, but that's just it-they are excuses. I signed up on Sparks this past week and have been very faithful in tracking what I am eating. What an eye opener! I haven't started in the fitness tracking area, but with bootcamp, that is the next leg of my journey.

Thanks all for being a part of this adventure, I look forward to being a part of yours, too!

Hi everyone I am pretty much in the same boat as everyone else, I sort of just seemed to have this weight thing sneaking up on me and it seems to get worse every year. I lose then I gain it back plus. I eat my self into a coma. I eat when I'm bored stressed, and feeling sorry for myself. I am looking forward to a fresh start tomorrow (oh it is tomorrow lol) well anyway I am looking forward to today,,,,,,,,,,, emoticon

Day 2 of SP. Still navigating the site. Looked at the workout for tomorrow ~ wow! Hope I can keep up! I weigh 165-ish and want to get back to 125-ish. I know what to do (I've been at this weight loss thing for most of my life) but need help getting motivated. The message boards are definitely motivating. Agree with other commenters who say they won't be spending a lot of time on the boards b/c they could be exercising instead. Think that will be me, too. Wishing you all the best time as you reach for those goals.

Hi I am Sandra. I work around the clock 5 days. weekends are way shorter now that I am married!! talk about life style change after being single for plus20 years! My husband of 6 months works days while I work 4 day hours and 8hrs second shift. 25yo son in Fla. 27yo daughter in full time college and working full time (and sleeping on my couch at this moment). Dog that likes to play soccer and ride in the back of our pick up truck. and cat that follows me all over inside and out as i tend to my chores. I have maintained this extra hundred pounds just as easily as I used to maintain a healthy weight. the transition from that weight to this is a blur. I really never 'Saw' it coming to this extent but have maintained about 5-10 yrs. I really don't know. And since i have learned over the years that I have a grand challenge to get and maintain past the 20 pound loss, I have set my goal at only 20 pounds to accomplish a great hurdle!!!

Love Hugs and Prayers Sandra

Hi everyone, my name is Ann and I can't wait to start today with the boot camp work outs. I have just started with the Leslie Sansone dvd's and this will be a nice change of pace. The weather has been bad so I work out inside and found that the pace is nicer when you don't have to go any farther then your bedroom to work out.
So let's get this party started. emoticon

Hey all,
I am a Spark member since 2007, lifetime WW member (up 60 lbs from my goal weight)and Couch to 5K dropout. I really fell off the wagon during the holidays and am excited to see the Boot Camp option. I didn't really want to pay $70.00 and show up at 6AM for my local YMCA boot camp. All I need now is a stability ball:)

Blessed are the flexible, for they will never be bent out of shape.

Hi, I'm Deb. I'm very excited for this challenge as I recently decided it's time to bump up the workouts as nothing else is giving me results. I have 3 structured classes already per week so adding 2 more hours shouldn't be a problem. I'm fired up for this and hope everyone has great results and success.

Hi there! My name is Kayla. I just turned 20 and I'm very new to Spark People. I have always had a problem losing weight, mostly because I'm quite lazy and I don't like diets. The one diet that worked for me was the Atkins diet, and at the time I was very active in Colorguard (dance for those who don't know). I weighed 130 right before I gave up on Atkins because I couldn't eat with everyone else. At that time I also moved, thus losing colorguard.

I'm sad to say that I looked at a scale and I'm right where I started before Atkins at 203.4 lbs. Seeing that was depressing, but also made me motivated to get this weight off. I'm competitive and I like challenges, so this seems like a good way to start!

Good luck to everyone in the challenge!

Hi. First post here. Second day on Spark. Referred by a group of ladies (and gentlemen) who have created a "Biggest Loser" style challenge here in Northern Illinois, where I live. I'm involved with my friends in the local challenge which ends on March 31st. My goal is to be at least 15 pounds leaner in 3 months. I am looking for as many ways as possible to see this through. I need motivation since I previously lost 70 pounds in 2007-2008 and kept it off for about a year only to gain it almost all back in 2009. I need people and accountability. Thanks for listening. Oh. I'm 34 years old. Married almost 10 years and a mother of two children aged 7 and 4. I speak 5 languages and am a great teacher.

Hello everyone! My name is Sara and I am trying to lose the last 10 pounds of my weight lose journey. People say that it is hard and it is bc I have gotten too comfortable and have slipped up and lost some motivation. I am hoping to meet some new spark buddies and regain the motivation that I once had.

Hay y'all! I am not new to SP. I joined the last time I tried to lose the weight but never really utilized the site. I have done weight watchers (on my own didn't go to meetings). In 08 when I joined SP I tried the prescription diet pills. Both times I lost 50 or so pounds. But here I am again. I have come to realize that stress and anxiety control me more than I knew. So I am not going to do a quick fix, short term thing this time. I want to be healthy not just thinner. I have never completely committed to exercise. I have had a month or so points where I went to the gym and think back I had a friend that went for a few weeks after she stop so did I. I have a little girl now who is watching me. I want her to be healthy because its what she knows not what she is making herself learn to do. I think that if I make connections and tie friendship to help me get through this journey I will be more likely to stay regular with SP.
Its nice to meet all of you

Hey everyone! My name is Nikkee and I'm back on the spark diet. I fell off the weight loss wagon when I broke my ribs and separated my sternum in rugby. When I was recovering I ate like I was still training and the pounds caught up with me. Now that I am healed its time to get my butt back into shape so I don't feel so awkward at the beach! Feel free to stop by my page and say hey, cuz I might need some motivation some days!

Hi everyone.

My name is Lynn. I am from Northern Ontario, Canada. I have been on spark people since January 2008 ... I lost 35 pounds that year, only to gain them almost all back by the end of 2009.

I have a great support system at "I'm 40+ and want to be a big loser!" team. They are a bunch of great people! I saw Tammy joined, so I thought why not!! A great way to start of the year!

I am married, between DH and I we have 7 children, only one at home currently, she is 12 on Feb 2. I work two part-time jobs, DH is a trucker and gone most of the week, and now is the time for me to get back on track.

My motivation?? A friend on the 40+ team!! Kar has lost a lot of weight and she looks phenominal!! I want to be where she is, and with the amount of hard work and dedication she has put into herself she deserves the motivational award for 2009!!!!!! WAY TO GO KAR!!!!

I look forward to getting to know as many people as I can! Best of luck to all in 2010!!!

Lynn

Hi my name is Deanna. I am new to spark people. This is my first challenge and am looking forward to starting. I'm always good about starting. It's the sticking with it that I'm not so good at. I'm hoping the support here will help me with my goal of losing 80 pounds by next September.
I am 40 and the mother of 2 teenagers. We are on the go all the time, but I am determined to make time for me to exercise. Good luck to everyone.

Hello! My name is Anne and this is my first day on SparkPeople.com -- how exciting that BootCamp starts tomorrow! Still figuring out how to navigate the website, but will be hard at it tonight and tomorrow, so hope I can get to where I feel like a bonafide new member of the group during the BootCamp period. I have just entered a very positive phase of my life, after a very dark phase - I purchased "The Spark" this afternoon, and am very interested in this whole SparkPeople concept! emoticon

Hi, I'm Rikki. I'd like to lose a little less than 20 pounds. I went from 220 to 167 in about 8 months on my own, and finally hit that weight loss/motivational wall, and can't wait to be a part of a group that can encourage and empower each other. Best of luck to everyone, and Happy New Year!
