Hi everyone wanted to introduce myslelf and learn to get more sleep so I do not find myself snacking like crazy because I'm tired. I ususally get about 4 hours a night.

I plan on going to bed at 9:30 pm which would give me 8 hrs of sleep. emoticon

hey howdy there

Its tough for me to be consistent in my sleeping patterns because of my part time jobs. sometimes i can't sleep at all at night when at my overnight job, and crash in the middle of the next day, sometimes i can't sleep at night and get up at 3 am to do something else for a bit. When i'm out on the job, i am half-conscious all night: too tired to get up and too conscious of what's going on around me to really stay or even become asleep. its like a zombie state, which makes me feel lousy and drink way too much coffee in the morning. At least out there if i get to 4 am and just can't stand it anymore, i get coffee started early for everybody, grab a cup and watch the boats go by on deck (i work on a battleship overnight program for kids). I can find a sense of calm about that time, and its the only thing that doesn't make me crash the next day. i'd like to find that serenity in sleep, though.

I don't mind a weird sleep schedule, per se. I've learned to try and get it when i can. The difficulty is STAYING asleep when i should be. often i'll wake up off and on all night, and then i'm bone tired in the morning. I hate it. I just want good deep sleep like we're supposed to have, and i can't seem to stay that way unless i'm completely knackered, and that's only for a couple of hours a pop. ugh. I want better sleep at the very least if more sleep isn't exactly possible.

Hi everyone! I'm Michelle from Salt Lake City, Utah. I have always had a problem with sleeping. I seem to get this burst of energy around 9:00, just the time I should be settling down. I have a hard time falling asleep and then an even harder time waking up. I teach school, so I have to wake up around 5:30 a.m. You'd think I'd crash at 9, but instead I just get a burst of energy and can't really get to sleep until around 11 - 11:30. Then on the weekends I sleep in late, which I know throws my whole sleeping pattern off. Ugh! Anyway, I'm hoping to get some help on here, as I know my sleeping patterns add to my weight gain.

Hi, I'm Tiffany. I'm new to SP and this team. I don't have a lot of trouble getting to sleep (most of the time), but I do have trouble getting up in the morning, so I think I need to work on getting to bed earlier.

Hi. I just turned 60 and have had an issue with sleep. Sometimes I can sit in the "evil" recliner and be asleep within minutes. Other times I go to bed when I'm sleepy and tired but when I'm in bed it takes sometimes an hour or more to fall asleep. I know I have an issue with Sunday afternoons. After a nice meal, I relax in the "evil" chair and fall asleep for maybe 2-3 hours. And then I definitely have a problem at night. I don't usually have trouble getting up in the morning, though, and even when I haven't slept well, I try to get up at the same time every morning.

Does exercise help to stay awake/sleep when you're supposed to? I've cut way back on caffeine and try to eat my evening meal before 7 p.m.

Hello Everyone,

I've been having trouble sleeping for at least the past 6-7 years (since junior year of college), possibly longer. Now I'm in graduate school sharing a 2-bedroom apartment with a friend.

I have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, and lately I've been tired all the time. Even when I do get 8-10 hours of sleep, I have trouble getting myself out of bed and still feel groggy all day. I intend to go talk to a doctor about this and some other issues I've been having, but in the meantime I hope this challenge will help me develop better habits and experience better sleep.

Hello, Generally I've been able to sleep about eight hours though I have had insomnia from time to time. But for about five years now I have trouble with sleeping straight through the night without waking 2 or three times and frequently have trouble falling asleep or back to sleep once I have woken up. I have been taking steps to improve my sleep habits and it seems to have improved the last week or so but still I feel like I'll never get a full eight hours again. I'm going to try relaxation techniques before bed.

emoticon everyone. I don't have a problem with sleep on a constant level. Right now I think it is having a hard time adjusting to DST. My problem is always being tired. I did go to the Dr. and he did blood work. He told me to exercise more, it gives you energy. It just made me more tired. I don't think I sleep soundly.

Hello! My name is Elizabeth. I am afraid that I sleep too much! Without an alarm clock, I've been known to sleep a full 13/14 hours and still sleep the next night. Which is crazy I know. (Thank goodness for alarm clocks and husbands!) Drs believe it to be linked to my insulin issues, and hopefully as I sort those out with medication, I will sort out my crazy sleep patterns? I hope so!

Speaking of sleep, I think I need a nap. :)

I have created a bad routine for myself. When I leave work, it feels like I still have so much to do from picking up my daughter and running errands to trying to keep the house straightened up (which I'm not successful with that either) as well as other things I feel I have to do. If I sit down to relax for a few minutes, I tend to fall asleep. Then I wake up when I should be going to be & can't sleep. I'm hoping to find some help through this challenge.

Hi, I'm Lyn. I'm 24 and go to school full time-I'm getting a degree in network administration. I love yoga, walking my cat, and knitting. My main sleep challenges are my girlfriend's fan-she needs one to sleep and it keeps waking me, but ear plugs take care of that. Our cats enjoy running all over us at night which doesn't seem to help, either. I am mostly here to establish a healthy sleep routine, I'm highly resistant to going to sleep until I'm exhausted and I'm really starting to get annoyed with how irregular it makes my schedule, and how it effects the quality of my sleep.
Good luck to everyone!

I am a new mom and just started to get some sleep back so it's nice but I tend to constantly wake all night long and I have always been a light sleeper so I don't know if that will ever change but anything to help me get more sleep would be great. I feel really run down and have low energy, recently caught a cold as well so that doesn't help. Winding down is hard and my mind seems to constantly race especially if I wake in the middle of night good luck trying to get back to bed - Hem almost impossible! Good Luck Everyone, I hope it helps me out!

I have had a hard time sleeping soundly for many years. If I do go right to sleep,I wake easily and have trouble staying asleep. I also have a husband who snores and grinds his teeth in his sleep. I have invested in some soft ear plugs which have helped. I think my biggest problem is I'm not ready to go to sleep....I have a hard time unwinding. Drinking tea or warm milk cause me to wake during the night to go to the bathroom, taking a warm bath tends to wake me up. And reading makes me want to stay up and finish the next chapter and then the chapter after that. Good luck to all on this challenge.

My name is Jt. I have always had trouble sleeping ever since I was a kid. My main problem is staying asleep. I usually woke up about 2 to 3 times during the night. Also, I have problems sleeping for longer that 4 to 5 hours. I really hope this challenge helps. Good luck to everyone.

Going to try this challenge to see if I can improve my sleep. I already use a noise maker & ear plugs and the occasional medication.

hello everyone!!!!
I've had sleeping problems for 35 yrs.,ranging from mild to severe insomnia. I've been told that having a mentally challenged daughter at home with us for 35 yrs, caused us to sleep VERY lightly, always having one ear open. It seems this pattern is unbreakable. I have recently retired from nursing---literally unable to keep my eyes open on the job. No prescribed meds. or over the counter sleeping aids work very well.It will be so great to talk to people who have similar problems. Whoever thought of this team is a GENIUS!!!

Hi, my name is Pam. I am 50 years old I work at home in a family day care. My husband and son work odd shifts so that makes it hard for me to always get in bed. Is this where we are suppose to do our journal?

I am starting a new chapter in my life. In May I lost my husband to cancer, hardest thing I have been through. I brought my son who is autistic home to stay, I am trying to figure this all out, taking it one day at a time. While I have been off here I have gained weight, that I do not want so I am going to try and get back in shape.

Hi, I'm Linda (Lyn). I have not slept through the night in about 14 or 15 years, unless I took a pills. See, I have 2 bulging discs in my lower back and it keeps me awake, unless I take muscle relaxers, which I don't like to take. I'm hoping I can get some kind of relief and/or tips!!

Hello, I am a person who has struggled my entire life with losing weight. I just want too focus on learning how to use this program to my advantage. If anyone can suggest what is the first thing I need to do would be great. Seeing this program in a magazine seemed promising. I already order the Spark Book, and the Cookbook. Thank-you.

Hi, I am Caitlyn.
I am hoping to build some healthier sleep habits through this challenge. I am the mother of a 2 year old who hates to sleep, which means I have MANY early mornings and sleepless nights.
I know that I could go to bed earlier but it is hard when the night feels like my only opportunity to have "me" time. I am going to work on that though. Specifically, I am going to try to turn the computer off by 9pm for time to read or relax. Hopefully that way I will be asleep by 10pm instead of starting my bedtime routine at 10pm, which is what I have been doing.

Hi! My name is Christien. Since I started my SP program I've been having trouble sleeping. I sleep more lightly and wake up more often during the night. This makes me tired and crave food to keep me awake during the day. I do have a fairly regular sleep routine, I do work out. I think I feel hungry almost every night. Anyway, I hope this challenge will help me to sleep better!

Hi All:

my name is Tony and I need to loose at least 50 pounds. In the reading that I have done I noticed how important sleep is. As my wife works late shifts and I always wait up for her I sometimes get very little sleep. So I thought this might be a good challenge for me to take.

Hello, my name is Barb. I am a sleep apnea patient already, who is using a
bipap. Most nights I sleep through the night and I get 7-8 hrs sleep each night.
I am a breast cancer survivor, recently. Also, I have chronic pain with my spine
because of spine fusion, as a result of being hit, in a car wreck. Some nights
I know that I must not sleep well because of pain and it is somewhat awkward,
since I had masectomies. I am retired and a night owl now.

I came to this team to see if there is some that I can see here, to help me
with better sleep.

Hello everyone.
Due to osteoarthritis and the problem I have with recovering from an operation on my right arm to repair a midshaft humerus fracture in my right arm sleep can be a problem.
Not enough sleep leaves me feeling tired, irritable and pain levels seem to increase as well.
So I am here to learn how to break the cycle and do something natural to get a good nights sleep. I do not take any sleeping pills natural ones or otherwise.

I do get up at a set time each day but it is hard if I have had a bad night. Oh just so you know I have had to sleep upright since August 16th 2011 when I broke my right humerus. It took the Specialist until January to finally find out my arm was not healing despite my telling them it was not right. So January 26th this year they operated on the arm. I cannot lay down as it causes the arm to be very painful with a burning sensation so I sleep with pillows to keep me as upright as possible in bed. This means I cannot change position like turn over so I am in one position all night.
I use a pillow under my knees as having them straight all night is painful. I need a good nights sleep so this challenge is definitely for me.

Hi Mem. Welcome to the group.

I know a little bit how you feel. It is hard to make yourself stick with a regular sleep pattern when you feel you do not have a reason to. Well... Here is a reason:

Being up during the day, and getting regular sunlight will improve your moods and health. It has been known for a long time that a certain amount of sunlight is needed, and is beneficial to our health. Not only does it make us feel happy to soak sunlight up, but it also helps us use some of the nutrients we need to survive. Sunlight is needed to regulate some of the vitamins we need. (vitamin D)
Sunlight also plays a huge role in how we feel. It helps regulate our sleep patterns, and our moods. If you limit your time awake to evening hours, then you are also limiting your health and happiness.

As He is in the light
We have fellowship
With one another

If we are willing to confess
Our own unrighteousness
He will wash away
All our transgressions
