Hi all I been yo-yoing for a few years. I lost 80 lbs almost to my goal then I started gaining. anyways I been heavy since the teens been on so many diets I cant count them on my hands. Well I need to get back on lose it for good. I want to be the slowest turtle and reach my goal and stay there I want to eat to live not live to eat.

My hardest time is getting out the door to get started with my exercise. I really need someone to kick me in thebutt or at least call me or something.

I am member of tops and and here. and I belong to gym I have all the tools but just dont get started. I have 2 copies of the book ordered two by mistake but havent read it yet.

A wedding did not motivate me. so where do I get some motivation. Well have a reunion in october will that. I want to be a kops it was to be this year but dont think that will be so I will have to move it til next year so I can be the slowest turtle too. so today is the day I start new to become that turtle and reach my goal. No more yo-yoing from this day forward one step at a time. no backward but forward I will pick myself up if I fall or trip but no more turning around and going backwards.

Hi there. I am, technically, not overweight and don't need to lose weight BUT I am extremely close to being overweight with a BMI of 24.8 so, I am always striving to lose 7-10lbs to take my BMI down a bit. I have been a member of SP for nearly 2 years and have lost the grand total of 4lbs! I have maintained my current weight since Christmas 2009 and have always aimed for a loss of 1/2lb per week as it means that I can have extra calories. I can't keep my calorie intake between 1200 and 1500, I need the extra 200 or so leeway that a lower rate of weight loss allows me.

I love your ethos as it matches mine. Thanks for starting the team. I'm looking forward to your blogs as I have enjoyed the ones you have written so far.

About 10 years ago I lost nearly 50 lbs! Not sure how I did this but it happened! I have now gained back about 15 lbs and have not been able to lose any more. I have been at this weight now for a couple of years. I try to use the treadmill at least 40 mins a day or go for a walk when the weather isn't too bad. I am now starting afresh! When I lost my first 50 lbs I was losing about 1 lb a month which was so slow I was getting very frustrated but now I realise that at least I did lose and persevered.

I congratulate you on this Spark Team - it is very heart warming to hear of other people who have the same problem!

OMG! Hi, how are you all? I was so glad to see you article on the start page this morning. I have been a "Slowest Loser" and a lonely one too. I have lost approximately 73 pounds in 15 months. When I started Sparkpeople my Motto was " Slow and Steady Wins the Race " and I live by that. Somewhere along the way, my friends have slipped away and now I rarely get or make comments. My hope is that your team will renew my journey, get me over this plateau, and help me find a turtle friend or two to walk the path to success. Thanks for starting this team. I look forward to reading all about you. Sincerely, Cherie :) emoticon

Like many of you, I saw the featured blog entry, and even though I have never seen the biggest loser, I didn't think that that should stop me from joining!

I want to lose the weight that has crept up, and is stopping me living my life ro the full. I had chosen the tortoise for my ticker tape, so the team just seems right to me.

I'm looking forward to be inspired and entertained, and hopefully giving a little back too!

My reason for joining this team is because I AM THE BIGGEST WINNER! Ofcourse you all are too, but one of my goals is to put myself first as much as I can.

Hello there to you all.

I have been dieting all my life meaning from age 12-14. Looking at my pictures then now I think there was nothing wrong with me. If I would have kept it like that it would have been fine. Positive thing about all this is that I am meeting you guys. SP ROCKS!!!

My dieting experiences can be read in my blogs but in the January 20th it has all been sumarized more or less.

Because of my job and my emotions I am a typical yo-yo-er.

Lost a lot 8 years ago (see photo galary) and since then I have gained half of it back and yo-yo-ing half of that again back and forth.

This is so unhealthy and makes me so cranky! :(

I love this community and like tracking it all but for now I have taken a break. Seeing all those numbers, puzzling for hours to see how much and what I was allowed to eat ended up frustrating me so much that it lead me to fall of the wagon completely. Job frustration was added to this as well.

I lost about 10 kg in three months since I started and gained 7 back because of this frustration. I didn't stop exercising meaning walking for half an hour or biking for an hour a day but anything and everything ended in my mouth healthy or not. So 70% came back.

Well back to the tracking. I found this team about intuitive eating. I have started a week ago and I eat what I want, when I am hungry, making good and healthy choices and don't track anything. I also enjoy myself because I went out for dinner last Tuesday and made no choices at all took what I wanted and even drank three glasses of wine, I hardly ever drink but I just felt I wanted it so I did and felt great. It has given me this week a lot of rest in the head/mind!

Besides that I have been able to do morning exercises and I love it. Cardio Blast and Fit Firm and Fired Up from our own Coach Nicole. Just 10 minutes of exercise added to 5 minutes of warming up and cooling down. In just 20 minutes I feel energized the entire day. Hooray! I can keep up with this!! It is easy.

My first week has been far from slow in the loosing department. 1.7 kg!!

My aim 5 kg per two months.

Well this is for now.

If you want to know more ask away, read my blogs, check my sparkpage anything you like.

Have a lovely Friday and I wish you a super weekend.

With SP we will make it!

Every season has its charm.

Hey All!

I have been dieting for 35 years, and now I really struggle to get a single pound to budge. I burned out on dieting a couple of months ago and gained a few back. Struggling so hard to find a program that I can live with and feel at peace with and not gain.

I am the slowest loser because I can only stand to eat salads, chicken, veggies, and cut out all the sweets and fats for so long before I feel deprived and say forget this I love food.

Last October I was diagnosed with stage 1 fatty liver disease and was advised that losing weight is the only way for my liver to heal itself. I thought great here we go again. Several years ago when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure I went through the same thing, but this time it was different. My doctor being overweight himself was more sympathetic about how hard it is to lose weight that he told me if I lose 1 lb a month he would be happy. So needless to say I took my cue from him I restarted with SP and set my goal to a 1/4 of a lb a week. So even though my doctor wants to see 12 lbs gone in a year the 1/4 lb a week actually puts me at 19 lbs by 12/31/2010, so I have changed my ticker to represent the yearly weight loss. I am currently at a little over 9 lbs since January and that puts me ahead of schedule which helps in the motivation department. I don't worry when I only lose a lb or like last month when I gained .9 of a lb, I look at the whole picture and see that I am ahead of schedule and keep plugging away.

I am very glad to see a team that has the same goals.

Hi there, I'm Noelle. I live in Alberta, Canada and have 2 boys, a dog and a hubby.

I am such a fan of the slow and steady idea. I have tried to go quickly and do it all right, all at once and fallen on my face and quit many many times. This time, with the help of spark-friends and one step at a time, I am going to finally get healthy, energetic, and reasonably fit.

Hello, my name is Linda. I do agree that slow and steady is the best way to lose weight. I have lost and regained weight by trying to lose too fast. It just don't work. It has taken me a year next month to get where I am, and I'm still not done. I'm ready to blast these last few pounds though. I don't want to be skinny, I just want to feel better.

Hi!
The slowest loser is just what I needed. I have been losing about a pound a week from january to march. And then nothing.

But when I read Losebuddhabelly's blog, it just made so much sense to me. You see, I love camping (and fires at night with mashmellows, and other not so healthy foods) and ice cream on the summer week-ends. I also tend to eat more when I am on vacation, and they are coming up.

So I copied Losebauddhabelly, and changed my lose a pound a week for lose half a pound a week. I stay close to the minimum calories on the week days and on the week-end I go up to the higher allowance. I also continue my training.

AND IT WORKED. I lost half a pound in the last week. All of it while camping over the week-end and eating ice cream (a small portion of course).

I feel like I can do this, and I am proud to be part of the Slowest Loser team.

Anne :)

a bout with breast cancer, a painful synovial lumbar cyst, turning 50 in 3 months, meds that promote weight gain ... how may i count the ways that weight doesn't just slide off my body?

my son shed 60+ lbs since last september, just by counting calories (in his head). he's my inspiration. i've always been nutrition-phobic, so i needed help. luckily i decided to give SP another try. so far, so good. i no longer fear calorie-counting, and i'm meeting fantastic, supportive friends.

love this team ... thank you for starting it!

I am new here and I like the philosophy. I believe that small changes can make a big difference if you are patient and I am happy to find a team that realizes that life happens and most of us don't have nutritionist or personal trainers or hours a day to get buff. I need to believe that if I plug away making good and do-able changes that I can lose the 35 lbs that keep me from being in the healthy BMI range. I also need motivation to consistently make those changes. I have gone so slow on my own that I have made no movement for months -- glad to be here to start inching along! Go Slow team.

Leeleepoo,

I went 9 months without losing a pound. But I saw changes in my body that were miraculous. So take your body measurements, and pay attention to how your clothes feel. Sometimes your body needs time to catch up with you. Just don't lose sight of what your objective is. For me that is to be as healthy as possible.

Oh, I don't want to go months without losing a pound! How do y'all stand it? I lost 35 pounds from Jan-April and then I've kind of slowed down to, well, a crawl. How do you keep going when this happens?

Hopefully reading your posts will get me through the rough patches!

---------------

Later....oh, you guys want to lose weight slowly. I misunderstood. I'm slow that way. I don't want to lose weight slowly. I am way too impatient for that.

So thanks for the invite, but I'm leaving the group already! Best of luck everybody! We all have to do what works best for us and this approach would not work for me!

Pat

This is the first time I've joined a team, altho I've been a member for a while now. Not only is "slow and easy" the healthiest way to lose, but like so many of you have mentioned it's also so much less pressure on ourselves than trying to live up to unreachable goals.

Reading the Slowest Loser blogs and some of your entries already, I think I've found my SP home!! Here's to making/coninuing healthy changes that will stick for life.

hello fellow turtle people!

I'm so happy to have read the blog and found this team. I'm a slow loser. If I lose fast, I just regain the weight and that's not what I want.

At this point, I have many health challenges and more than anything I want to feel good again, to feel fit and healthy and to have more energy. I think that by eating sensibly and exercising moderately, I will hopefully achieve that.

So here's to all the slow losers - glad to have some company!!

I think that I am the slowest lower because I have been on sparks just over 1 year and have only lost 18.5 pounds. I was on a plateau for over 10 months!! I just began to lose again this past month when I had an intestinal virus. I have lost inches, 2 pant sizes and gained much energy but the scale...well, I am the slowest loser!!!
Thank you for saying this out loud!!!

HI, Juneau, I am also 4'10" (but I lie and say I'm 4"11"). My mother at 88 years old has shrunk to 4'6" from osteoporosis--I aim to keep every fraction of an inch. Slow, steady, strong and healthy...I come from a long line of short, tough ladies. Just keep plugging along.

My name is Margaret, I joined this team because I need to focus on the smallest goals, daily goals that will add up to wieght loss. While I'm tried of being overwieght, I'm much more tried of feeling weak from lack of excerise, and out of control with my overeating. So my focus needs to shift, while I couldn't keep myself of my scale if I tried, for the next few weeks at least my success will be based on excerise and meeting my small daily goals.
Thank you Bruce for creating this team.

emoticon Hi everyone. I am starting over in my weight loss journey ... I have been with Sparks for several years and yet I still seem to get stuck. I am joining this team because I hope that with a slow and steady pace my skin will have an opportunity to shrink and not sag. Also, at my age I lose much more slowly than I used to and unless I starve myself and excercise madly I am unable to lose 2-3 pounds a week. In the end, I am thinking about food all the time. I give up, feel horrible, and put back the pounds lost! What I am still looking for is a way of eating that I can maintain, still enjoy my life, and improve my health. Sounds like many of us have similar goals! I will be cheering you all on.

Hi, my name is Jean. I had just been talking with myself about remaking my goals to lose weight one pound at a time. My priority is to change my habits to healthy ones (eating and exercising). So here I am. Thank you for the encouragement.

I am 4'10", so it looks as if most of my fellow turtles tower over me! We are in this journey together and, from the posts I see, have a lot of the same philosophy - slow, steady, healthy....it's all good and I am so glad to find a group of like-minded turtles with whom to share my long, slow journey!

Why I'm the Slowest Loser:

My metabolism is slow.
I'm only 5ft4.
My body naturally loses weight VERY slowly, since I've finally learned to acknowledge this I thought it's be best if I EMBRACE it too.
Slow and steady really does win the race.

I'm in this club because for the last 10 years I have been dealing with my weight and trying every diet in the book to try and get the weight off as quick as possible. At this point in my life, I'm trying my hardest not to think about that anymore. I want to be healthy so I can run around with my 4 year old. I want to teach him and myself better eating habits, so neither one of us will have this issue. So I'm making small changes in our eating plan. I'm starting to cook more, and make sure we have a vegetable or fruit with each meal. With the snacks eating fruit and nuts, but still have chips. But we have the 100 cal chips and cookies to help with portion control. I'm putting my scale away and only checking once a week, but looking more at my energy level, how I feel, and how my clothes are going to fit.

TAKING IS SLOWLY WITH MY CHANGES, SO THEY ARE PERMANENT AND SOMETHING I CAN LIVE WITH THE REST OF MY LIFE. This is not a diet, but a life change and that takes time and that's why I'm in THE SLOWEST LOSER team....

I am about 6 months into my journey and have lost 36.5lbs to date. I joined this team because I have learned through this process that the only way to be successful FOR LIFE is to lose it slow. At first I was disappointed that the pounds were not coming off any faster than about a pound a week, but then I began to notice that, hey... I haven't GAINED any weight, either. It just keeps coming off.

I don't want to have to look down that long road again thinking about how many pounds I have yet to lose. No. I want to get to my goal weight and stay there and look back at how far I've come and feel proud that I did it and was able to maintain it.

Hi, my new Turtle-like friends!

I'm here to do my post about "Why I'm the Slowest Loser" and in some ways it is a sad, sad tale. Several years ago, on the recommendation of my doctor, I went on a very strict nutrition plan. You may have heard of Take Shape for Life (also known as Medifast). I have to say that my success on that program was absolutely astounding. I lost 4 pounds each of the first 3 weeks and pretty steadily lost 2 to 3 pounds a week every week after that. All told, I lost 60 pounds in about 6 months and after a couple of weeks into the program, I didn't feel all that deprived. Well, I probably DID feel deprived, but that was more than offset by the thrill of seeing those unwanted pounds and inches disappear.

So, I got down to my first goal of "healthy weight" and decided that I needed to take a break from the program. Do you recognize the scenario? As soon as I got to the place where success was outweighed by deprivation, I couldn't do it anymore - at least for while.

You guessed it. The pounds came back on a lot faster than they went off - and my self-esteem absolutely tanked. When I joined Spark People, I realized that it was going to have to be a lifestyle change or I might as well pack it up. Obviously, I could lose weight on a strict diet of non-food, but that didn't teach me how to eat healthy and I love food too much to just give up eating forever.

I'm the slowest loser because I'm not about to put myself through all that again. Not the deprivation, Not the rapid weight loss, not the weight rebound, not the ups and downs of self-esteem.

As a matter of fact, I'm ALMOST to the place where I don't care if I lose ANY weight or not. I just want to focus on eating healthy, delicious, and satisfying foods in appropriate portions and learning to enjoy a lot of forms of exercise. I have new measures of success now. I would now prefer to have a fresh, crunchy, flavorful salad than a big, fat, juicy bacon cheeseburger. If that isn't success, I'm not sure what is.

Trinity,

I agree with you. I have never matched those charts for weight and height either. What's important to me is the health aspect. So i want my waist to be a number that I know will help me not be diabetic. I want to have energy and the power to do all the things I want to do. If the scale never keeps up with that so be it.

Wickett,

Why don't you set up a small veggie stand with your extra garden veggies or steam and blanch them and put them in the freezer for those long, cold winter months? I'm in Michigan and I understand the frigid weather! Best of luck!!! Remember that your journey starts with a single step. If you keep thinking of every step being your first, you'll always be starting out and not worried about how long the road is.

My motto: One step at a time.

Lol... I'm certainly in this club -- though I'm not sure I want to be! When you're only 5 feet, one inch tall and you go into "starvation mode" when you eat less than 1200 calories a day, you just don't lose weight very quickly even if you do exercise an hour or more/day. It's nice to know where to find others who are also on the slow track, to give and sometimes receive encouragement. Thank goodness I am in this for the long haul and am not in a hurry! And, boy, have I gotten strong and toned in the past 4 months, even though I've only lost 12 pounds.

Three cheers for all of us tortoises!

I joined this team because I really don't want this journey to be about the weight. My weight has never matched my height or my appearance, and the incongruity between my size/appearance and the wretched numbers on all those wretched charts has caused me a lot of heartache over the years.

After having twins I'm not as fit or as healthy as I would like to be. If some pounds come off, great. If I'm fitter and healthier, and the number on the scale doesn't budge, also great!

I signed up for this team because the weight is coming off far more slowly than I expected it to - not even 1 pound per week - something has changed...I'm hoping to find others who are learning to come to grips with this process and share tips, encouragement, joys and sorrows -

I've been gaining and losing the same 40 pounds for the last 5 years -

So glad that I found this team! I have thyroid issues and I was doing well until the doctor lowered my dose of medication and I started back to work full time (all in Feburary of this year). I have been on a plateau for almost three months. I've learned that I need 7 hours sleep a night, but that's hard to come by except on weekends. I also struggle with emotional eating.

Hi team! I'm Anita and I joined Sparkpeople last year and I was doing ok for a short while before I let depression get the better of me.
I recommitted to the site a few days ago and after reading the intro and having a nose round the team pages it felt absolutely right to join. Everything just clicked into place. There is just too much pressure to lose those 2 lbs every week I feel I'm setting myself up for an instant fail.

So here I am and I look forward to being an active part of this team

For those of you who are feeling bad because you've been on SP for a year . . . or two years . . . and haven't made progress, you shouldn't despair! This month is my five, yes, FIVE year anniversary on SparkPeople. By this time, I TRULY believe that 90% of the battle is having the right mindset and it has simply taken me that long to find my way to the right place to really make a change that will stick for good. I have been 'on the wagon' for 15 weeks now and must say that this time everything is coming together so well that it almost seems effortless.

Slowly but surely, we can DO IT!

emoticon to the team, Cynthia!
It sounds as if you're not feeling good about your weight. I can understand that, but I hope you're not beating yourself up over it. There's more to the lifestyle change journey than what the scale says. Are you exercising more than you did? Are you eating differently? What about your quality of life?
I am sure you will find within yourself, and I hope you focus on, those positives that will help you keep going!

I just wanted to find a team where no one knew me. I celebrated my two year Spark-Aversary two weeks ago, but I weigh more than I have in a year. I guess I am a slow learner and I really want to do better. I did a Run for the Turtles 5K because I thought everyone was going to be running slowly, like me. Not true, but I liked the logo of this team and thought I might fit in.
