G'day!

I'm a 62 year old type II diabetic, who successfully lost 30+ kilos a decade ago ... but then, like many of us, its crept back again.

So, I've set the goal of losing 20% of my weight in 2020 ... that's 98.1kg down to 78.5kg in 2020

So far, so good - 1.3 kilos in the first week of the year.

My challenge will almost certainly be eating out when we travel - I'll be in the US for a month, and Europe for a month - and its on trips like that I tend to let things slide.

Anyway ... as I say, G'day!

Hi All, thought I'd come back and reintroduce myself after being on 'a break' for several years. I'm almost 40 and from Sydney, I started losing weight with SP in 2008, I lost 50kg over an 18 month period and maintained for several years just by following along SP and tracking food and exercise consistently. I had a tummy tuck in 2015 and it really felt like I had completed my weight loss journey.

Fast forward a couple of years and I got remarried and we decided to try for a baby, which did not go particularly well to start with, as time went by trying and failing to have a baby I started gaining weight back, I gained 8kg just while doing IVF! Success at last and we had a baby girl who is about to turn 18 months. We have been trying for baby #2 for the last year with no success, we've had 3 miscarriages in that time and will be starting on IVF again in the new year, the weight just keeps piling on and it is making me more and more stressed and upset.

I am now 26kg heavier than when I had finished losing weight in 2009. Realistically I'd like to lose 10kg this year, before we start IVF again, and then see how I feel about it.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all along the way

good morning I am both oldie and newie. I haven't been here for a while as I have been doing other challenges but I am watching the weight come back on so now I am getting motivated again.

I found myself cheating in the challenges and decided to give it a rest and become more accountable for myself.

I have started walking after work again and enjoying it now that it is getting warmer again and then I go to gym.

Now that everyone has flown the nest I am trying to keep my self busy in the afternoon, I started going to gym after work but then I would come home and do nothing, that's why I am walking first and then gym as it will fill my day and clear my head.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Hi new team. Just thought i'd pop in to leave a note and introduce myself. I'm getting back into sparkpeople after a long time off! I've been working away from home for the last 5 years and just moved back. Neglected my health during that time and want to put in the hard yards to feel healthier and more energetic again.
I'm not sure what my plan of attack will be yet but i've at least started thinking about it again! :)

Hi, I'm here on my ... I'm not sure how many trip to Spark people. Over the years I've been a member at various times and so far lost just over 30kgs with a long way to go. Very pleased that I'm at my lowest for 15 years though even if it is just the "start". I also know that while I'm dealing with a number of medical issues, I'm much better off for having begun to get healthier and that everything i'm dealing with will also continue to be helped by further weight loss and further focusing on living healthier and a better life. Right now I'm focusing on a personal eight week lose 5% challenge as a kick off to return to a healthier life; and glad to be here as well. I'm in my mid-40's, Australian, single and work part time in a job I enjoy. I'm currently restricted by not being able to do much in the way of exercise but I hope that will change soon. Meanwhile I know my eating habits need a lot of work so that's a good place to focus, and my emotions/stress/etc. etc. etc. Look forward to meeting people here and encouraging one another

One step at a time we can do it!

Hello, I'm 46 and ready to get back into shape. I live in far north Queensland, and counting my blessings that my small town shouldn't be flattened by Cyclone Debbie. We were in the front line for Yasi, so I feel for those in Debbie's path. Have been working nights for the past year after 10 years in newspapers. Have now also taken on housekeeping at my sister's motel a few mornings a week, so that's got me moving and keen to get fit again to make the exertion easier to cope with. Have two grown kids, with one still at home and have struggled with depression since my teens.

G'day everyone,
I see I have some friends here already, which is great!
Potted history: 62yo nomad in motorhome with spouse, secretary of busy national club, interested in knitting and crochet, wine, computers, good food allowing for my IBS, going to the movies, conversations and motorsport official when we have time. Exercise? no thanks. Sense of humour? dreadful.
I was going great guns but slowly with LCHF (no I am not giving up my wine) when we visited friends for Christmas then more friends then a cruise, my way of eating was blown out of the water, I stacked on almost all the weight I had so gradually lost and I am finally returning to the eating pattern.
My beloved spouse is extremely supportive, which is a major bonus.
Thanks Kaylene for the email welcome.

Hi. I live in SE Qld and have been a Spark member for a few years now. I have a grown family, eight grandchildren and am retired from teaching. I like to spend time crafting by quilting, and papercrafting and do teach the odd papercraft class. My husband and I like to travel in our caravan so photography takes my interest then. I am maintaining my over weight status (not gaining more at least) and would like a magic pill to help with weight loss as I am not very good at it using conventional methods. Lol!

I am on day nine of the new member challenge so I needed to join a new team. I am from the USA but spend extended periods of time in the Northern Beaches with my daughter so I thought I would try this team.

I am 58 years old and a retired registered nurse. My hobbies have become genealogy and cemeteries. I have let my weight and fitness get out of control so I rejoined Spark People since I obviously cannot do it by myself. I am heading back Down Under in just over a week and can't wait for the summer weather (although ours hasn't been super bad) and fresh produce. I love the markets there!

Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

Hi everyone, this isn't my first time here as a Down-Under Sparkie, but because of illness I wasn't up to posting online daily, and on my doctor's suggestion I dropped off the radar for around three months.
I'm Chris, I live in Stawell, Victoria, and if it wasn't for Spark People, I dread to think what kind of condition I'd be in. The friendship and motivation here on Spark People is amazing, and it was that that has helped me lose a little over 20kgs. Not only that, it motivated me to get my lazy butt off the chair and get out and walk - something my three dogs love, as they each have their own preferred walking route.I'd hoped to walk each of them today, but unexpected friends calling in to catch up before Christmas put paid to that idea, so tomorrow we WILL definitely be walking.
Wishing all new team members lots of success, as well as enjoyment. There is so much help at hand here at Spark People, and the team leaders are so very dedicated to helping team members.

Chris,
Stawell, Victoria, Australia.

--this is my first post to the team. I have lost 21 kg and want to lose about 4-5 kg more. I am from and live in the US--when Spark People asked me to pick a non-US country for a team I knew you were the team for me. I chose Australia and there abouts because it is near the exact opposite coordinates of where I live (I live in California (36N; 119 W). Perth seems to be the closest big city. Anyway--I seem to be stagnate in my weight loss (haven't lost or gained since Jan 2016) and am hoping for a fresh perspective to turn my Weight Loss world upside down.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi guys, I am Jennylee from Adelaide. I have been a member for a long time but haven't been here for the past two years since I had two knee replacements.

I need to get back on track so here I am again.

Looking forward to meeting some of the new faces and getting reacquainted with some of the old ones.

Take care,
Jennylee

Hello Everyone!
I'm Bethan, from Brisbane. I just re-joined SparkPeople. I've been a member since 2006 (on and off) in Canada. I'm so happy to see that the program is alive and well in Oz. I was afraid that tracking food would be a nightmare due to different brands etc...
Good luck everyone!

I'm hoping that being part of an active team again will give me the motivation I need to get back on track, so I'm looking forward to hearing all of your success stories!

Hi all.
Great to see a team of Aussies.

I'm from Melbourne, joining the site for the motivation, accountability and friendship.
My fitness goals are general fitness and losing the fat I'm starting to accumulate around my belly while putting on some weight in the right places.

Anything is possible. :)

Hi
I joined this group the other day and have joined in the 9 week challenge. Am determined to lose some weight this time! Have just turned 60 and recently retired. My main goal is to be fit enough to enjoy my new freedom. Also I love to travel so need to keep a certain level of fitness - and the thinner I am the more comfortable those airplane seats are! I live in Sydney and am always looking for new experiences.

Hi everyone, I have been using sparkpeople for a while now, and lost 14kg. This year I refresh all my goals, because I weighed in at 96.8 kg under 100kg the lowest weight I have been for a long time so it was time to reset everything and take an new out look on the way I am doing things.

I made new goals, and have replied to a few challenges so I am hoping the 2015 is a good year for me in all aspects of my life.

Hi everyone, I used Spark People several years ago and after achieving goal weight, and maintained that weight for a month or two, I imagined I no longer needed to continue meal planning, tracking, and making sure the balance of exercise to food was as it should be to keep me at that weight. Epic fail, especially over the past 6 months or so.

I've piled on the kilograms and the nearest I got to exercise was thinking about it. I was at my doctor's one day a few weeks ago, and asked him why I felt so tired, and so generally unwell. His answer? Get out, lose some weight by watching my food, and instead of sitting all day, start moving! I knew the only way I could do it was by coming back to Spark People.

This time I'm here because I'm 61 and I want to be fit, healthy and energetic enough to be able to continue gardening, walking and playing with my dogs, and to maintain my independence for as long as possible. Its not just a case of wanting to get rid of a spare tyre round my middle. This time it's way more than that! I've been back for just over two weeks now, taking things slowly, but as soon as I saw the letter about the team challenge over Christmas, I knew it was just what I need for motivation.

Chris,
Stawell, Victoria, Australia.

Hi All, I joined SparkPeople a few days ago - thank you for the welcome email. I'd also like to thank members who share food they've manually entered as I was able to add Optifast shake to my food tracker today.
This is the first time I've left a message on a community board. I'm 168 kilos and need to lose weight to improve my health. I'm hoping that changing my habits by leaving a message will help me change my lifestyle habits 😊

Hi I'm Sharmayne, from NE Vic, I did the join up thing a few weeks back before heading to work one morning......then life continued, and now I'm back here just looking to see how all this works.....and a kg heavier it seems!! I live in a very tiny country place & have to drive a lot to get to work, shops etc etc. I think my biggest problem is keeping motivated, so hope I can get a kick start on here.

Hi Guys

I joined this site yesterday, have changed my diet and commenced exercising daily about 6 weeks ago now. Have struggled to lose weight in this time and stumbled across this page in my google hunt yesterday for some answers.

My short term goal is to get under 80kg, currently 81.8 and started at 83.4. My long term goal is to get to 75kg and from there just to maintain my new lifestyle.

A bit about me, I'm 36 and live in eastern suburbs of Melbourne, I work as a Financial Accountant for a manufacturing company. I am also studying a Bach of Business which will lead to my CPA.
