Hello, I'm Renee, I am ready to move forward with some positive changes in my life. I will be transitioning from working nights (as a floor nurse) to days, that is a big change for me. I figured I should also start making some healthy changes... taking advantage of a set schedule. I always used the excuse of working nights to not practice healthy habits. Being a walking program seems like a good first start. I'm looking forward to the support of SP.

Hello, I am Sheryl. I signed up for my first 5K with Color Vibe for Dec 14th, so I have a little time, but I am an office worker and sit all day...very little activity for me. I figured this would get me up and walking just training for the race.

Hi my name is Ida. I am back again. I did this 2 year ago & finished. I had total knee replacement last year & still trying to rehab my knee. I have been doing a lot of walking from 3-5 miles per day right now. Think this will help me again.

Hi, I'm Suzie. I'm trying this program again. I accomplished it a few years ago before a long cruise so I'd be able to take all the walking tour shore excursions. Worked great!
Now I'm a couch potato again and need motivation to get moving again.

Hi! I'm Lilly and I've been on SP since 2008, although not even remotely constant. I turned 29 6 weeks ago and started thinking that I really don't want to hit 30 being this overweight, so I wanted to take up running. Of course, someone as sedentary as I am needs to walk first. :)

So, I started walking this week. I had intended to do C25K, but it turns out I have shin splints and running for even 1 minute hurts terribly, so I opted for walking instead, at least for the time being. I hope to walk (or run, if possible) my first 5k in October. I also need to lose about 50lb, which I hope to accomplish before May 14th, 2014, which is when I turn 30. :D

Hello - I am a former SparkPeople person - I did very well the first time around, then my life got in the way. I am back to do it for good this time.

I am watching my food - still could do alot better but I am logging it again and trying to drink the water.

The first time, I did not do alot of exercise. This time, I have a gym membership and I go 5 times a week most weeks but no less than 3 times a week. I just started doing Zumba and really like it - I am going again tonight (class #2).

My daughter is a runner and I want to be able to run a 5K with her. She will probably have to go slow for me (she runs cross country and track for her school), but to be able to say we did it together. She is 13 and I dont want her to end up having issues with weight like I have my whole life.

I have a lot of big events this year that I want to get myself in shape for and the only way to do it is to just do it!!!

I've not been consistent with being active. But now that I've got my eating under control, I think I'm ready to tackle the activity as well. My goal is to walk a 5K in my hometown in September - so I wanted to get training. Two days down - so far so good!

Hello everyone,

This is my first time joining the couch to 5k program. I am currently 335 and plan to run by next year. I would like to incorporate running into my fitness activities; however, I am crawling before I walk. It is a goal of mine to run for the American Cancer Society relay or Detroit News Marathon in October next year. Coincidentally, this is when I will complete my master's degree program. I found my career aspirations and personal goals were conflicting. I am tired of starting and stopping. I am in this for the long haul. I wish everyone the absolute best in their goals. emoticon emoticon

I am planning to use this walking program to get into better shape.

I am sitting at about 225 right now and need to get quite a bit off so that I will be here with my kids and now my grandchildren.

I can't wait to get this emoticon done and then I will try for even more!!!

There seems to be a theme here, because I, too, joined this team a while back and didn't stick with it.

I am 64 years old and weigh almost 250. NOT GOOD! emoticon

Lately I have been noticing that I get breathing hard and heart rate goes up with very little exertion. I have a-fib and take medication for that and am also on cholesterol meds. My cholesterol level is good now, but the PA wanted to check for damage that might have been done before I started the cholesterol meds and my level was pretty high. I had a pulmonary function test and yesterday I did a cardiac stress test. Apparently I'm not going to die if I start breathing hard, my heart rate goes up, and I start to sweat. That's good news! emoticon

But now there's no excuse. So I'm starting, yesterday actually, to prepare for a virtual 5K around the weekend of July 20. emoticon

It's really nice to know that I'm not the only one who's not stuck with the program. I've been so off and on lately. But I know I need a goal to reach forward otherwise I just slack off like I have been. I'm not going to try to run. I know I can't. so I'll be happy with power walking. I would love to actually do a 5k jogging but I know that's a long time in the future. If it ever comes but I'm trying to work my way that way.

One day at a time.

I'm not trying to lose weight. "I have no intention of finding it again"

OMGosh it's so nice to see that I am not the only one who started this plan a while back and never really stuck with it! That is not to say I'm happy people gave up/never really start or get bored but just knowing .... I'm not alone makes me feels so much better about starting over AGAIN.

I plan on sticking with it this time! My goal is to be able to jog/run as a form of exercise...if I can complete a 5K, icing on the cake....oops, what I mean to say is...extra serving of carrots in my lunch!

Thanks 5K Team!

Hi! I signed up for the 5K so I can have a goal, and then realized that I didn't have my pedometer, I lost it and had to order another one! It should be here in a couple of weeks, I like the Omron so I ordered it online and I don't want to start until it gets here. I have decided to up it a bit when I do this one, I don't run because of my sciatica so I'm going to power walk this time around! Sheesh, if I had had my pedometer I wouldn't have enough time to get myself into trouble here! hehe.... emoticon

Hi, my name is Rozie and I am 67. Had some foot problems but now walking again. I usually go for 30 min walks, but thought that the 10K too much so I will do the 5K. I am hoping to promote myself to walking more.

I used to run but have bad knees for running.

Have a great week everyone walking & running!

Hi my name is Addie. I had a baby four and a half months ago and its time to really start exercising and eating well. I've been walking with baby in tow for a couple of weeks and this challenge seems like a great way for me to take it to the next level - to make my casual walks more serious. So far so good!

I joined the 5k walking team awhile back and never really followed the program. So at the beginning of this month I started using walking videos here at home. I've hit several days with 10000 steps so far and a couple that were really close.

My Fitbit quit working so I contacted the company about it. After several emails back and forth they sent me a replacent. I had a Fti Zip but they replaced it with the Fit One. I love it!!!!

Hi everyone, my name is Kim and I joined this 5k race because it was one of the challenges for the Biggest Loser Challenge #18 team that I am on. I have tried doing this before but always just got distracted and never completed one. I am hoping this time will be different. I am planning on doing this program for at least 3times to build up my strength until I am able, asthma allowing, to do move to the walk/jog 5k program. I would like to get into running but for the longest time when I was a child I was forbidden from running due to my asthma and its severity. I'm hoping by this time next year that I will be doing a 5k running program.

Kim

Hi, my name is Jojo and I joined because I feel like these 5k races keep me motivated and striving to be better.
I've signed up to do a second 5k race now. My first one was in the snow and it took me over an hour because I didn't want to fall and get injured. So now I want to beat my time (hoping for no snow this time). I felt like this challenge can help me be better prepared for my second race. emoticon

Hi Everyone,

My name is Rosie and I joined this team today. I can't wait to start walking. I needed something to push me to walk for longer lengths and to improve my endurance when I walk. I am unable to jog because of a knee injury I sustained a few years ago and now I'm sticking to walking most of the time with a few intervals of jogging if isn't painful. I'm glad to be a part of this team and I hope I will be able to motivate and receive motivation as well. Feel free to check my SparkPage and add me as a friend. emoticon

Hi I'm Amy and joined this challenge for a little more physical activity as I'm trying to incorporate different exercises for each day, I'm exercising at least 5 days per week. I started this group on Sunday so I did 2 walks so far, feels good so far. I think these different challenges on this site are fun and very encouraging and I'm really hoping I can lose the weight I need. My first mini goal is to get to 169 lbs. It's just a few lbs but for some reason I can't seem to get there. I get to 173, sometimes 171 and that's about up, goes up and down and never lower. Hopefully with variety of exercises it will help this time.

Hello my name is Diana. I live in Sevierville Tennessee, home of Dolly Parton. My life is out of control so I have decided to at least get my weight somewhat under control. I have to start somewhere, right. The walking challenge sounded like something I could do. I have trouble with both knees so I have to careful what I do. They want to give out on me. So I really want to lose weight, since Sept I have lost 77 pounds but have a lot more to go. emoticon

Hi Everyone! My name is June, I am 70 years old and I live in Chesapeake, Va. I have been working at losing the weight I gained after I retired from nursing. Its coming off slowly and I do have a health issue as that I need to have surgery on my ankle and I have put this off until October but I do want to try and do this 5 K walk. It may take me a little longer but I do want to do this. I joined the team yesterday and I am ready to start this program come tomorrow.
Hope everyone is having a great day!! We can do this!! emoticon

Hello, my name is Kathy and I just joined the team yesterday. I am working my way up and hoping to do a walk/jog (or run) 5K this summer, but need to get in shape and lose some weight. I have never really liked exercise, but I figured walking is the best way to start.
I have been with SP for a little over a year now and just really starting to get more involved. I really enjoy it. emoticon

Hi everyone - my name is Jess. I am 38 and live in Wisconsin. I have struggled with my weight nearly my entire adult life. I have just finished my Master's Degree, passed my board exams, and become a licensed Occupationl Therapist. I enjoy the outdoor life, but Wisconsin winters make it a bit harder to get out and about. Winter is hopefully coming to an end (isn't that what the darn rodent told us?) and I have challenged myself to a 5K with my best friend. In return to her challenge to do the "color run" I have challenged her to log her progress on here. We both met while power walking our dogs, and now several dogs later, we're too far apart to power walk together. This is my attempt to keep us going. Hopefully increasing my fitness and health will help me with my horse riding, dog training, job, and increase my life enjoyment! I have to be careful, both knees are whacked, so I love that this program starts slowly! I hope these forums will help me stick to it and get out there and walk! NO MORE EXCUSES.

Hi my name is Marian, I am 58 and I live in Ireland. I have always battled (we're talking serious battles here) with my weight, in fact since a young child. I really feel that this is really *it* this time, I have lost 37lbs doing a very restricted plan with an obesity clinic. I really need to start walking, but for obvious reason, I find it very difficult and sore. But the point is that I need to move more, so as the weather is now getting better, hopefully I will have more opportunities to get out and walk a little.
i am looking for lots of Christian spiritual and motivational songs to put on my mp3 player to keep me focussed. Thanks so much for read.
Really wish you guys all the best in each of your journeys x

YVETTE2255, I found getting up off the sofa, tying my shoelaces going outside and just putting one foot in front of the other - repeat - worked brilliantly. I started walking, then I wanted to go further, now I want to go faster.

You can do it! emoticon

My name is Yvette. I am a High School and college basketball official in the Los Angeles area who just fnished my season last week. I need to lose 20lbs by June 1st to get ready for my next season so training for a 5k sounds like a good idea. My goal is to run a 5k, but I will start off walking first. LOL Having a hard time getting started. Where and how do I start? emoticon

I've walked 2 5ks so far and aim to participate in one a month for the remainder of the year (missed January - snow) and have a goal to finish each one faster than the last one. I've been walking fairly regularly on weekends as weather permits. Usually just over 2mi each time out and try to keep a pretty brisk pace. Adding jog intervals has been tricky, simply because it's been slippery underfoot. So I've tried to concentrate on just keeping a brisk pace.

The first was on a beautiful sunny day and we ended up just taking a relaxed stroll, don't remember the pace, but it wouldn't have been anything to write home about that's for sure.

The second was a valentines day one with my DH. We walked, there was freezing rain, but we completed it in just over 17min/mile pace. DH walks faster than I do, so he pushed me a bit.

Next up is a St. Paddy's 5k. This one I'm doing on my own. DH is coming to cheer me along and I'm hoping to start to incorporate a few jog intervals.
