Anniemaroo I'm not able to walk any great distance because of arthritis in my back, hips, and knees. I am trying out some chair excersizes which are more do-able for me. It would be fun to get together, maybe for coffee, after the risk of covid has past.

Once Covid is over, maybe we could meet up and go for a walk somewhere in the Greater Victoria area? I'm doing between 6 and 9 km daily (just walking from my place (near HCP) out along the Interurban Rail Trail and back) I need to use the "less traveled" areas. I try to hike once a week, but the Sooke hills are slippery right now - and some trails are covered in blowdowns...
My middle son lives with me - he had a transplant - and is a very high risk for Covid. I'm in the over 65 risk. Hoping that the vaccines are ready sooner than later for the two of us!

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.
When you get to a plateau, think of it as a landing on the stairway to your goal. And
maintenance is a lifelong plateau, so a bit of "rehearsal" for maintenance isn't the worst thing in the world
Breathe in love & compassion.. Breathe out peace & forgiveness.

Hi
I am from Southern Vancouver Island and love living here - lots of places to hike and bike. In the summer, endless places to swim.
Have slipped back into bad habits over the past three years and am hoping to get back on track.

My, my, have you come to the right place or what!!!

emoticon Hello there and emoticon to this team!

What I love on Spark People is that the support is unlimited! You need motivation, read up on the success stories and/or post a query and someone will be there to help you along. It is always difficult to start something new but Spark People make it so easy for us all to achieve our ultimate goals. Take it step by step: a) study the site, b) incorporate good habits from the beginning, c) start exercising, etc.

Spark People is all about lifelong lifestyle change. Yes, it's good to lose weight for one specific event, but what is important is incorporating new healthy habits in your life as of now till... What I have found is that once I stray away from this site, my weight tends to go upwards again because I am not tallying my food intake nor my exercises. Once I do reach my goal, I will continue with SP in order to maintain my weight.

Another thing, do not rely solely on the scale as a measure of success. Scales can play tricks with your mind. Do measure yourself with a tape measure and verify occasionally the progress you are making. Also, use clothing as a way to measure your progress.

Good luck on your journey and if you need help at any point, just drop me a line and I'll get back to you pronto. emoticon

Hi everyone,

I'm not new to Spark People but I haven't been around for a few months. I did really well last year and lost 30 pounds and did really well for a while over the winter and early spring keeping it off. Then I got busy with other things and stopped tracking and much of it is coming back. Ultimately I've got 60 - 70 pounds to lose from where I am now and I KNOW that tracking (and committing to staying within calorie limits) is the key for me. So here I am. :)

Look forward to the journey with you all.

~ Engi
