That sounds awful! Thumbs down for that substitute! I hope others that were there will speak up and I hope you get an extra class or a refund.

So my family, dh, ds17 and dd14 went to our classes on Tuesday. The club we are learning square dancing from does a split class where the first 1.5 hours is mainstream and the last hour is plus.

So there was a substitute caller. He kept mixing up where everyone was and calling calls that hadn't been taught yet. He even called one call that is a plus call that our plus class hasn't been taught. And this was mainstream. He was also really FAST! We understand that at dances, the caller calls faster than at classes. But this was Uber fast! So fast in fact, that many squares were breaking down because they couldn't keep up. Even the angels were having issues.

So Hannah goes to the caller and asks if he can slow down a bit. He tells her to dance faster. I think it was very brave of her to go to him and ask him if he can slow down. After I hear how he talked to her, I got angry. So I take Hannah and walk over to the caller and tell him how I feel that his response is unacceptable. I tell him that he owes her an apology. So what does he say? "I'm sorry you can't dance fast and keep up." That isn't an apology. How rude.

We talked to the president of the club and are told that the club can't ask a caller to slow down. Why not? Isn't the club paying the caller to call the way the club wants. The president feels if the caller doesn't call fast, how will the dancers learn to dance faster. That is what class dances are for. This was a class. And it wasn't right. Not to mention, he kept breaking down the squares. In my opinion, if you want to build your club, you don't tear down children who are trying to learn this new dance style.

In the end, we didn't stay and missed our plus class because Hannah was so upset and in tears. This caller was just rude. Doug and I felt we wouldn't learn anything from him anyways but still.
