Hello everyone, I am pre diabetic. I have wanted to get healthy, but keep getting in my own way with excuses and just never starting. I have been continuing to eat myself into oblivion. I really do want to get a grip on my nutrition. I haven't had my A1c checked since May of 2016 but I do keep track of my sugars a few times a week and have noticed they are going higher than they have before. I am still not at the diabetic mark but close. My binge eating is out of control and am hoping with this challenge I can get on track. My name is Alicia btw. :) Nice to meet everyone. emoticon

Good Morning. I have been here before and decided to start again. I need to lose a lot of weight and want to improve my health. I have very little will-power, but I'm going to keep trying. I hope everyone has a nice day.

Hello, I'm deb
I have been in and out of SparkPeople since 2009. SparkPeople has taught me a lot over the years. I was diagnosed with diabetes in September of this year. That diagnosis changed my life. It was very sobering. Now, I take everything on SparkPeople very seriously. Changing my diet was easy. Amping up my exercise was easy. But, I think I need more. I need to learn all I can about this disease. Through this team and the rest of SparkPeople, I think I can get it under control. My A1C is 9. That has got to go! I'm determined to change my life!

Hi All!

I'm Josie. My A1c has been elevated for about two years now (thankfully only slightly, but still...) and my doctor just gave me an ultimatum: three months to get my numbers back into the normal range or go on metformin. My dad is diabetic, so I know I'm at high risk. I'm not keen to take meds if I can avoid it and I needed to make some healthy changes anyway, so here I am.

Looking forward to getting to know folks and to getting healthier.

Thanks,
Josie :)

Hi, I am new to Spark, I started today, Going to each team, that Spark suggested and going to start my first challenge. I am married, my husband has diabetes and has to take insulin 2 a day. I am trying to watch what we eat, and I have pre-diabetes. I do not take medication for it, and I do not want too, therefore, I am helping my husband to control his sugar intake as well as my own, in hopes of loosing weight and to improve many health issues.

Hey everyone! I'm Laura. I was recently told by my doctor that I was pre-diabetic so I'm learning to make some big changes in my life. Started off by cutting carbs and most recently started walking to work to try and get in better shape. Currently on day 4 of the challenge. Good luck to all and God bless!

Hi! I'm KT. I was here for years until I came to a standstill. My doctor recommended that I not adhere to a high-protein diet, like Spark's guidelines, as he felt the parameters were a bit too rigid for me. However, I find that the tracking features alone have helped me keep on track. One year later, and I'm back. I have PCOS with Insulin Resistance. Not quite a Diabetic, but considered "pre". My numbers rise and fall; as inconsistent as they can be. My endo is pleased with my numbers, in general, but I'm not really. I want my A1C to be below 5.7. It sits at 5.9 - 6.0. My worst ever was 6.3. My cholesterol also waffles, as do my triglycerides. Worst of all, I'm not considered "overweight", being 5'2" and 130 pounds, but my body fat percentage is a whopping 28%!!! Gads! My endo wants me at 115 with my body fat percentage at 20%. I'm not sure, at age 43, if my body will cooperate with such a challenge. But, here I am, giving it another try. Have a great weekend, everyone! :)

Hi, I'm Reverend Edith and I have been a type 1 diabetic for 50+ years. At present my spouse is ill and I am the caregiver. My blood sugars are up and down so I figured this programme would help keep me on track.
I wish everyone great success.

Hello! I am 62 and concerned about my health. I have been a diet and exercise controlled diabetic for years. The only member of my family over the age of 60 not on some form of diabetes medications. I have prided myself to now on being able to keep my blood sugar under 120 fasting most days with an A1C of 6 or less. My cholesterol was below 200 for years and my blood pressure the old ideal of 120/80. Ha! not lately! First the Cholesterol creeped up to 240 then the B/P to 164/97 and now the Sugar is trying to climb.
I am determined to get back to Healthy Eating, Exercising and get the numbers back down.

I was a member of the team some time back (years ago).Don't know if I ever completed the challenge or not. to much water under the bridge.

Ask, and it shall be given to you;
Seek, and you shall find;
Knock, and it shall be opened unto you: Matthew 7:7

Now the Beroeans were more noble minded than those in Thessalonica, for they recieved the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so. Act 17:11

Hi my name is Kendall. I am on this team because it is supposed that I have diabetes. But there is the chance that my diabetes was caused by a medication and an overdose of Cheerwine. With the cheerwine out and having been on the medication long enough to settle down my numbers I am running regular on everything and hope to be off medication completely in another four months. I have already cut it in half once. Until then I will stay here and hopefully get encouragement and be able to give encouragement. I am living proof that being sensible in what you eat, losing weight, and exercising regularly is wonderful for your overall health and for your diabetes!! So easy to say, so hard to do, but you can!

Hi, my name is Nikki. I was put on metformin yesterday due to having high sugars. So my goal is to really start working out more and eating healthier. After 6 months if my weight and sugars are down I will be off the medicine.

Hello. I've been a diabetic for years and have always done just enough to keep things under control. Lately that isn't enough and life has gotten super hectic on top of all that. My goals are to get back into healthy habits and then build from there. I'm giving myself 3 goals.

1. track my blood sugar every morning
2. find ways to add more steps in
3. track my food.

Good luck to all. :)

Hi Everyone!
I joined the challenge today and am sharing my goals to complete the day 1 task.

goals - adjust my lifestyle to allow me to scale down on my diabetic medications (currently taking 3 drugs).
To meet my goals I've committed to:
1. tracking morning blood sugar numbers
2. gym workouts 4x/week
3. logging everything I eat each day

My super awesome boyfriend is doing this with me as my best friend and support system.

I know I can do this, I used SP many years ago and lost 65 lbs. I drifted away and over the years the weight founds it's way "home" again. I've felt defeated for a long time, but my health isn't improving on it's own and I'm rather determined not to turn to surgery as a means of weight loss - the thought of surgery (and potential complications) scares me enough that I can't bring myself to see it as a possible option.

That leaves me with 2 choices, continue to allow my health to deteriorate or put on my big girl pants and do something about it!...here I am! emoticon

Hi. So, where to start. I am Tova and I will be 51 mid Sept. I was told 2 yrs ago my A1C was 5.6 but I truthfully didn't do anything about it. So when I went for my physical this year, my A1C was 6.2, that was on July 26. I was told to lose weight, exercise more, eat less carbs and started first Metformin (but it made me VERY sick) and now Nessina.

I have lost 9 pounds since being told this but the last few weeks, I have been stagnant......

I am married to Doug, for 24 yrs. We have a son 21, son 18 and a daughter 16. We are puppy raisers for Guide Dogs of America and our puppy is going into formal training next Saturday.

Hi, I'm Lynda. I was just diagnosed with Type 2 so the challenge for me is to eat healthier, exercise more and get my numbers down. I go in for a re-check in two months for my doctor to determine if I will require medication or if a real lifestyle change will do it for me.

I joined this challenge to jump-start my journey.

This is my second time through the Diabetes Weight Loss Challenge. I don't have much weight to lose, I am here to lose my complacent attitude. I eat too many carbs. Chocolate and ice cream are my biggest weaknesses.
It is time to tame the sweet tooth! I was diagnosed with Type II in 2012, and have been able to control the Diabetes with food and exercise. It is my desire to continue without medication. I can only do this if I pay attention to my diet, and keep my numbers low.

Hi! I'm newly diagnosed diabetic (7/6/16) and immediately started changing things in my life to get my blood sugar lower. It was a surprise to me, when I was diagnosed, as I had gone to the doctor for a separate thing. I had found out my blood sugar jumped up by 80 in just 6 months. Diabetes is very prevalent in my family. My father, his mother and all his brothers and sisters (8 total) had it, so maybe I shouldn't be so surprised, haha. I'm trying to lose weight in stages so my first goal is to lose 34 lbs by the end of March 2017

Startng again. Better than quitting again, right? After a ham string injury I have struggled with not being able to exercise and my eating plan just went out the window day by day. I hate this! So ... today is the day. Better choices for my best health.

Hi - I'm Nancy - Had amazing success here 4 years ago for my 60th birthday which resulted in Perfect Lab Work!! Since then - lots of stress - weight gain - retirement - relocation and voila - thyroid issues and as of last week - probable Type2. Committed to find that healthy weight again and fit body by my 65th birthday and learning to stay there ( not at 65, lol but at a healthy weight.) Having fitness and healthy eating already - but absolutely KNOW that SParkPeople is the tool needed to reaching my goals again. I am not a fan of medications - especially since a diabetic med was the result in my mother's death. So let's do this together.

Hi, my name is Vickey. I'm 58 and trying to get my weight and diabetes under control. I've struggled with weight all of my life and over the past couple of years I've lost and gained back. I became discouraged and wasn't following my diet so my blood sugars also became unstable. Now I'm working on getting back on track. I'm not new to SparkPeople but I have been away from it for awhile. This Challenge is just what I need to get pointed in the right direction again and start getting me healthier.

Hello everyone.
I am trying to get back into healthy eating and exercise habits after an unproductive, uncontrolled break. I have insulin resistance and diabetes runs in the family, so I am predisposed to it. Hopefully this time I can take control of difficulties when they arise and not allow life to get in the way of my health.

Hi, everyone. My name is Sandy & I got added to this team when I re-set my goals. Last week my doctor mentioned that I was pre-diabetic. I listened, I heard & it scared me. My son died from complications from diabetes in 2011. I don't want to go through the years of illness & suffering that I had to watch him go through. I sent an email to my doctor Monday & he said I am doing all the right things & it was something he would be monitoring. I stayed on this team to learn more about this disease & how to control it.

Hi, my name is "Bobbi" but I am not new to sparks. I am 60 yrs. young and married,
to my hubby of 20 yrs. who is my life and my supporter.

I am disabled and trying to get a lot healthier and better for me and my hubby,
I am on a walker due to I cannot do things w/o help of hubby and my walker ugh.

I am a type 2 diabetes since 2-14-14 and I am tired of being on meds and so I think,
its time to wake up and do better and that means eat a lot healthier and drink my water.

I just restarted myself today and I wanna lose 180 lbs. hoping that I can lose 100 lbs.
by new years day 2017.

I have done good in the past I weighed in @ 360 lbs. on 1-16-16 and don't like what I,
see and as of today I am @ 330 lbs. happy about that one but still have to do better.

I am so tired of being over-weight and so today is my new day and world. @ my,
starting point.

Hi All. I'm Karen. I joined so I don't become diabetic. I am now considered pre-diabetic. Well I just came from my eye doctor and he said I have diabetic retinitis. He said about 8% of people with this come down with diabetes: that this is the beginning. Time to get serious! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
