New member here. I'm Ronnie and I hail from and still reside in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Father of four and grandfather to six.

I began the new year in 2011 weighing 208 pounds and knew I was on a slippery slope. I'd always been the thin as a rail, eat anything and as much as I wanted and never gained weight and then... well, my 50s happened. I jumped on the bandwagon on New Year's Day with Insanity and had great success. By the end of September, 2011 I'd shed 66 pounds and began weight lifting to build lean muscle. Then it happened... hernia. I had surgery to repair the hernia and never got back to the fitness side of living but did pretty well maintain my heathy eating... clean eating as I call it.

Once I reached my 59th birthday I began to ponder the thought of could I possibly reach my 60th birthday and be in the best shape of my life? It took a little time to build up a head of steam but I'm not up and running with both nutrition and fitness and loving it. It just came down to a "now or never" situation if I wanted to be fit at 60. Time is up. No more playing around... I'm all in and on a mission.

I wish each and every one of you nothing but the best in your fitness and nutrition journey and send you each good karma for life changing results.

Sorry I didn't introduce myself sooner. My name is Linda, and I have been a member of Sparkpeople for many years (it will be 10 years this August). When I first joined, I was at my highest weight, which was lower than many. But, my clothes were starting to get tight, and I was not feeling good about myself. After I joined Sparkpeople, I started logging my food (new experience for me), and keeping track of my exercise, etc. The tracking took a lot of time for me, but it really worked. I lost the 10 pounds I wanted to lose before my December birthday.

Since then, I have gone up and down in weight, but only within a "range" that I feel is quite good. I've been concentrating on fitness, and I am very happy with my efforts. I believe Sparkpeople has been a great help in keeping me accountable. And, I have found some very useful exercises and fitness tips here.

My latest change is a lot more walking. This started after I purchased a Fitbit last July. It has become rather an obsession, but I hope to settle down to a reasonable amount of steps along with other exercise like continuing with my gym routine (three times a week doing exercises recommended by a personal trainer), and swimming, etc.

I know that I am blessed with good health, particularly for someone who is 70. And, I'm doing my best to keep this up through a good diet, fitness, and keeping my mind active.

emoticon I'm on a journey of self-awareness and self-appreciation. I spent most of my adult life taking care of everybody except me. Both at work, (as an RN) and at home, raising my two kids, my little sister (after our parents died), and a grandson (who is now 22).

Two years ago I thought I was dying. I started rapidly gaining weight with no clue of the why until I got to 300 pounds. By then I was having trouble breathing, walking, and even caring for myself. Once we found the cause of my 45 pound gain in 4 weeks (a new insulin), with my daughters help, I started pushing myself. Sitting on a stool to cook at times, but at least cooking. Walking 25 steps, but better than being in bed.

So far I'm down 77 pounds. I've stopped taking all insulin except a fraction of what I was on, and taking it once a day instead of FIVE times a day. I take 2-3 yoga classes a week. Step aerobics and water aerobics every week. I'm not ready to give up! I've had 3 back surgeries and 3 knee surgeries and live with chronic pain, but hey....I'm moving and breathing on my own right? emoticon

Now that I've bored everyone, well anyone that didn't fall asleep while reading anyway, I'll say..... I'm really looking forward to being on this team emoticon

HI !! I'm 61 years old, married, have 3 grandsons and retired from a 40 year career handling insurance claims as of Jan, 2016. I have had 2 surgeries on my left knee, that last one was June, 2016. I have been working very hard on rehab from the surgeries and am finally seeing more success. I recently joined my town's Counsel on Aging, and have started going to Muscle Conditioning classes 2-3 times a week, as well as riding one of the elliptical bicycles in the fitness room there -- these two actions have worked well in giving my leg and knee more strength, as well as one of my shoulders from an old rotator cuff injury. I also have an 11 month old 50 pound puppy, that keeps me busy. Keep moving forward. I joined to have help with my motivation -- which slacks off sometimes --- hoping you folks keep lighting the fire under me with I slack off !! Thanks so much for the invitation to your team !!

Hey ya all, I'm Jo, I'm 54 years OLD. I've been on total disability for 8 years now. My goal for the week is 10 minute walk 3 times a day. I live in Ohio and the weather is not cooperating for outside walking so the tread mill is where I'm heading. My goal ,,, well ,,, my goal is to lose the weight so I can be a cadaver when I die. I know that is not the goal some people think I should have. They think it should be to lose weight to do something with my life and that is a good thing. I just know that for many years I've had my final wish has been to be a cadaver to help a doctor learn when I die. to do that I need to lose at least 35 lbs. My goal is 70. So one step at a time one day at a time I'm off to meet that goal.

Hi!! 61 y/o female, Oklahoman, Catholic, wife, mother of one and grandmother of two, RN, bibliophile, volunteer, gardener, crafter, sewist, traveler (mostly RV). We live on acreage in the city and have always tried to be as self-sufficient as possible.

I teach nursing students in the clinical setting, where they apply theory to practice on real patients. I love to see the light bulbs come on when it clicks for the students.

We practice healthy eating (with treats allowed). My short-term goal is to increase my protein to the minimum of my range (81 gm/day). I am beginning to use protein powder in baking. Made some decent peanut butter and chocolate chip pea protein cookies the other day. 81 cal and 3 gm protein/cookie.

We have recumbent trikes and try to ride the local trails once a week, weather permitting. Our "neighborhood" is NOT conducive to riding. Treadmill with lots of settings and a Total Gym. Not interested in a gym.

Thanks for the invite. I hope to actually participate in this team, which seems to meet my interests all in one place.

Hi everyone, thanks for the invite. I'm a 30yo librarian and PhD student in Nebraska who began taking my health seriously in October. I've lost 61lbs and have about 130 more to go. I like to play computer games, take walks, volunteer at the Humane Society, and watch Netflix with my four cats.

My biggest challenge is drinking more water and fruit.

Hope to get to know everyone on the team.

Hello! I am going to be 53 in April and am happy to be here!
I donated my kidney about 3.5 years ago and put on an additional 25lbs. since then, so now l have a total of 55lbs to lose ontop of the 16 l lost since Christmas. I need to keep myself accountable and on track. With one kidney, l can no longer mess around with my weight. I can'tell afford to one day deal with diabetes and/or high blood pressure. I'm ready to get moving and slowly but surely pick away at that 55lbs.

I look forward to meeting you All!

Thank you for inviting me to the team,( something you might regret in a few moments) :-) not because I'm rude, or too young, but probably because I'm pretty atypical. My name is Sabrina, "Brie" for short. I am 67, Retired Army, and after that, a retired Commercial pilot. I am a competition shooter, avid hunter and fisher, a still active pilot, and private aircraft owner. Now if THAT hasn't scared you off, I would be happy to join the team.

Thank you for the invitation.

My name is Cyl (Pronounced "sill") I am 64 years old and still in the work force. I am a cancer survivor. I do suffer from Diabetes 2 and that has proven to be a real challenge for me.

I have one cat called "Sweetie" who I found on my deck this past December. I discovered that someone had put rubber bands around his neck. I cut them off and Sweetie came in from the cold and is a real comfort to me. Sweetie chatters a lot, too.

I enjoy walking, reading thrillers and historical romances.

I enjoy watching television and I have listed some of the shows I like: Black Sails, Outlander, Poldark, The Walking Dead, MASH, Game of Thrones, and Sleepy Hollow, to name a few.

I look forward to sharing with all of you.

I'm Sue from Seattle, Washington. Retired for about 3 years now but keep busy with babysitting grandsons, some volunteering, and hobbies. Lately, I've become more politically involved as the current administration scares the dickens out of me. (I remember the smog alerts and the feeling of breathing dirt.)

My grandsons and future hip-replacement surgery are the impetus of getting healthy. But the overall good feeling is the impetus of staying healthy.
