Thursday..
I would like to say emoticon to both TerrificTonya and Roxi!...

Tonya, I am glad to hear that you are growing stronger from several chronic disabilities for one thing. That is great! So sorry to hear about the problem with your ribs and I can only imagine how painful that must be. Glad you are being treated by your physician and following his advice as he guides you.... I am very glad you are on the adventure with us here in both Sparks and this exciting team!.....As co-leader to Spark Guy, please don't hesitate to ask me even privately if you have any concerns or questions.....( and if necessary I would consult him).... emoticon

And Roxi.... emoticon to Sparks!.... I'm thrilled to see you have joined and are a newcomer and have also joined this wonderful team!
You are certainly welcome to add me as a friend if you like and I would do the same and help in any way that I can at any time !

And Rita. ... Welcome and I love how you said you are back on the straight and narrow and having fun time at the gym and working in your yard as well as planning good meals !.... That is really awesome !

I love the fact that with tracking you can see the nutritional values and if need be make substitutions or swaps! I like to see the burn on the fitness tracker. Makes me even more motivated to do exercise. Have a good day!

Yes, Roxi, this is a really cool site! I do enjoy my tracking and being held accountable, too. If I didn't have the accountability part, I don't know where I would be.

Hi Team! I recommitted to SP and joined this team on Tuesday.

I'm growing stronger as I heal from several chronic disabilities and 16 years of marriage to a dangerous man ( long story but will share when appropriate). Two days ago with my medical teams blessing, I decided to go on a liquid Fast ( I'm still getting good fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals, and calories). At the same time( not related to the Fast) I developed inflammation in the lining of my ribs ( feels like broken ribs). Doctor says I'll be good to exercise in 2 weeks. Life is interesting, isn't it?

I look at all in my life as blessing and an adventure. I am looking forward to this adventure with all of you. My personal journey is open to anyone wanting to become Sparkfriend with me, please do not be shy. I am recovering from 2 months of depression and isolation beautifully so this adventure means more to me than weight management, it is also an opportunity to rebuild trust within myself ( for myself and others) and build new friendships.

Life is Good at 50. Now to journey forward.....

Rita, emoticon to our wonderful team of men and women, who are like minded (I hope)!

Girl, you're not the only one who didn't have a clue until years later concerning losing and gaining the weight, and it was like your hair, wash rinse, and repeat. That's how I was with losing and gaining the weight and even more back.

YIKES, I have Deja-Vue with you mentioning the car accident. I was in a car accident and totaled my car and spent six months in the hospital. That was something to adjust to and coming home was no picnic either. It took me just shy of two years to learn how to eat, dress, take care of my basic needs, to walk, and take care of the basic things in my home and of course driving again.

I thank God that you DD was just bruised, but I know it was still a real eye opener and a shot to her as well as to you. So, now that you're thinking clearly after a bit of a detour, you're ready to tame that bucking bronco and show him who is boss. You go right ahead, young lady, and just give us the PRAISE REPORTS!

Blessings!

Hi Everyone, I live in Maine now. Gained and lost weight since I was a teenager. As soon as I lost what I wanted I went back to eating like I used to. Wonder why I gained it and more back right? emoticon So I've wised up and turned myself around. It's been about 2 years, but I've lost 78-80 pounds depending on the day. I've been on a dreaded plateau since the end of May. Not just in weight loss. My DD was in a car wreck 5/31 and totaled her car. Thank God she was only bruised, but that turned finances, our gym visits, diet plans, everything upside down. It's like we just put everything on hold. My mind has been mush.
I FINALLY WOKE from my walking coma 3 days ago and am putting my household to rights. Back on the straight and narrow. Having fun at the gym, working in the yard, planning meals instead of eating cereal.
I'm done boring you now. emoticon Thank you for the invitation to this group.

I am a new member. I have learned a lot of healthy behaviors that have prepared me for weight loss. My focus has been on acquiring these behaviors (physical activity, drinking water, tracking what I eat, eating fruit and vegetables, keeping junk out of the house). I need to lose more weight now. I recently had total knee replacement surgery so weight loss will be especially good for both my knees.

So I have joined this challenge to lose weight in really small increments (three pound by the end of August, 2017). This is my first goal.

emoticon Pam, from Shreveport, Louisiana. This is an emoticon team to be a part of. Like you said, "We all have had our ups and downs, and that's what makes this team so emoticon When we all share our stories and how we over came whatever it was, I know I glean what I can and incorporate with what I am doing. If it works, that's good and if it doesn't that's okay too. Each person is different and we find our own paths, but it doesn't stop us from helping and supporting one another.

If you need anything just give me a HOLLER and I will do the best that I can to help you or at least point you in the right direction. Again, WELCOME to the team!

Blessings!

Hi, I'm Pam from Shreveport, Louisiana. I'm 64, happily married, mother to six, and grandmother to 12. Like many of you, my weight has rollercoastered, starting in my teens. I have been actively working this plan for a year and have lost around 40 pounds. I have had some ups and downs, but I'm not discouraged because I am STILL LOSING!!! My health numbers are all heading the right way. My doctor is THRILLED. I will not give up until I reach my happy place, and I will know when I get there.

David,

You're among friends here, as we' have all come from somewhere to get ourselves more healthy and some like you must have the weight off to have surgery. I started out at 388 lbs. I met my goal of 170 lbs. but last July I was put in a wheelchair, because of spinal stenosis, and gained up to 260 lbs. and I knew something had to be done, so I came back to my family and here I am watching more closely what I eat, to get my weight down again. I don't EVER want to have another doctor or surgeon tell me that I weigh too much for them to help me, so I'm trying very hard, and I am losing, which I honestly didn't think it was able to be done from a wheelchair, but it is. We're all here to help you, David, all you have to do is ask!!!

Blessings!

Hi. I'm David (59 in October). It would be awesome to say' its so awesome I just found this site" , but embarrassed to say I've been on SP for quite some time. I read how others overcome and are moving on. Over and over start over with logging food etc only to let the flame die out in just a few days and give up telling myself I'll never be where I really need and want to be. Now over 300 lbs and a damaged knee because I didn't care enough about myself enough to make the needed changes im where I'm at today. This past week the Ortho surgeon told me...your insurance said without you showing that your trying ( loosing at least 50,lbs. That they would not approve any surgery .my boss at work has been a blessing having taken me off the schedule so I wouldn't get in trouble . I work for a grocery store chain that DR slip or not , if you miss a certain number of days you are terminated. Sitting here telling someone I've never met my problems is hard and from someone who has never used or been on SP before would not understand why I'm here.

Bronte1950,

Girl, you most certainly have come to the right place for accountability! Along with the accountability, you will lose inches, lose weight, and tone and trim your Temple that God loaned you. There are so many cheerleaders in here cheering you on because we have all been there and that's just FACT! Another FACT is that you will have ups and downs, as we all do, but I pray you have more ups than downs. If you have any questions, you can ask any of us and we will do our best to help you. So, young lady, WELCOME to the group and now it's time for you to get to work!

Blessings!

Welcome Bronte! This is indeed a wonderful team. Taking part in the team challenges has really taught me a lot about maintenance. Before maintenance I had to lose a few pounds. Fortunately for me I live with my spark buddy (diet and exercise buddy) Thoms1. My sister and I have been on our healthy lifestyle journey since July 2008.
We started by tracking all of our nutrition right here on spark. For two weeks we did not change a thing. We found out where we were at as far a food went and then made small changes that we would be able to live with. We still make small changes. We are not perfect! We have had our ups and downs but have been in maintenance since July 2010. We both declared July 4th as our independence day from those extra pounds.
The nutrition and fitness articles are really good. If you are as confused as I was Dean Anderson has a series of articles on Mind and Body. They made me think and helped me work out some things that I didn't know were bothering me!
If you need anything don't hesitate to ask!

Bronte1950,
Glad you found this site! Dig into the various tools like trackers, nourish yourself with articles, use Chris Sparkguy's lessons as a guide... and be patient with yourself. Slow changes are lasting ones. The internal numbers are more important than any scale or measuring tape, so do be aware of them, too!

Feel free to contact me by SparkMail anytime. ( p.s. - Like you, I live in the Adk. Foothills!)

Hi BRONTE1950, emoticon to SparkPeople! I can relate to a lot of what you said.

SparkPeople is a wonderful site with helpful information and tools, and a really great supportive community. I've tried a few different sites, and I think SparkPeople is the best.
I encourage you to hang in there and to take whatever steps, however small, that you can toward a healthier life. They don't have to be giant steps and you don't have to overhaul your lifestyle overnight so please don't pressure yourself that you have to do "everything right" automatically.

I've been on Spark for a while and I joined at a time of significant stress in my life. At the time I joined, I was not really ready to change my lifestyle totally - I wanted to lose weight but had trouble working up the heart commitment right away - so I started taking baby steps in changes and gradually improved my eating habits and increased my fitness. Plus as I read the articles on Spark, saw other people reach their goals, and learned more about fitness, and received encouragement from Sparkfriends, it actually helped build motivation and commitment in me. I lost the most weight between 2015-2016.

Unfortunately I suffered an accident in Jan 2017 that has set me back so now I am starting a new journey from where I am. BUT I know I can do it again. So you see, we are all on similar journeys facing similar things.. you are not alone, and we can all support each other through the process!

Welcome again! If you need help or have questions, just ask! emoticon Karen

Everybody tells me that they would love to knit, but they don't have time. I look at people's lives and I can see opportunity and time for knitting all over the place. The time spent riding the bus each day? That's a pair of socks over a month. Waiting in line? Mittens. Watching TV? Buckets of wasted time that could be an exquisite lace shawl. ~Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, At Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much A true friend reaches for your hand but touches your hea

Hi! I'm from the foothills of the Adirondacks in upstate New York I have been a "dieter" my whole adult life. I'm someone who has achieved goals, but am having a really difficult time getting and keeping my weight under control. I want to be a healthy weight, I want to look "normal", not be the biggest person in a group. I'm also tired of trying and failing. I like the idea of Spark People. I need to be accountable to something. I am not someone who does well when there are no boundaries. Knowing this much about myself hasn't seemed to help me much. I am hoping for a reset in mind, body, and spirit. Thanks for listening.
