I want to make some cute winter caps, and get back to making prayer shawls.

Hello AJINMN,

Nice to meet you. What project(s) do you have in mind? I'm doing a Block a Month challenge; 16 different crochet designs of 12 x 12 blocks. By November I'll have four Christmas gifts ready to hand out - I hope. Its a huge undertaking for me, I normally crochet small projects.

I am a farm wife. We grow cattle, corn, soybeans, oats, alfalfa, dogs, cats and kids on our farm. :) I'm wanting to get back to crocheting too. I took some time off, then finished my daughter's afghan, was gone for a while, and now want to crochet again.

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone. ((((Hugs))))

Jeanut, I lived in South Carolina and remember fondly cotton harvest. However the two years I lived there it snowed and I experienced Hurricane Hugo; my second hurricane experience as I hail from Maryland and still remember Hurricane Agnes’ damage. With Hugo experienced my first command of Marshall Law – our Marines are HUGE! Even the women.

I am looking forward to sharing yarns plans and accomplishments.

Welcome and what a great story. I live in SW Georgia and know what you mean about the size of the bulls (we have several breeds around). Mostly it's corn, peanuts, pecans, and cotton around here. In fact we joke and call the cotton that falls off the wagons Georgia snow.
Glad to have you in the group

Hello everyone…

A long time crotchetier, a friend from another board referred me to this board. And for the life of me I cannot remember nor can I find the post. Hopefully, she will step up and enlightened me - us. *S*

I am an old-timer to Spark People, just returning from a necessary sabbatical. I missed the interaction with others as I work from home. I live on 10 acres that I hope to convert into a small-revenue-making farm; hazel nuts and sweet clover are my chosen crops. I also grow burnt nuts, almonds, pecans, walnuts and heart nuts.

Raised a city-girl, I have always wanted to live on a farm. When 12 years old, my mother asked what I wanted to do when grown, I told her, “Raise corn and grow cows.” Yea, got that kinda backwards... I know that now. *LOL* After living 7 years in Nebraska, “growing cows” was definitely out of the question. Have you seen the size of those breeding bulls! YIKES! Then I discovered EVERYONE was “raising corn”. *S* So, hubby and I started an apple orchard in western Nebraska to the chagrin of neighbors and long-standing farmers-ranchers. It was a success, but a layoff would see us moving to Michigan; hubby accepted a job as an Associate Wine Maker/Farm Manager. My husband was born and raised on a western Nebraska farm-ranch, so I’ve married my mentor.

However, it’s the quiet, serene atmosphere, and privacy I value the most. My little dogs love running and romping and scouting the acreage without being tethered. Our kids (5 in all, with 6 grandkids) enjoy visiting because of its peacefulness; a reprieve from city-life.

I am retired from corporate America and don’t miss the hour long commute (one-way), and at times, in hazardous weather conditions. No more deadlines, politicking, or one-sided diplomacy. Working the soil, nature has one rule – SHE/HE RULES! *LOL* It’s just so simple… *LOL*

The title, “Gentlewoman Farmer” feels nice.
