Hi All,
Trying to find a team with active posts and real goals. Looks like you might be posters!

I'm Fran, a 45 year old massage therapist and ordained Episcopal deacon. I've been married to my hubby for 26 years and have an adult son. We live in the boonies of NE Pennsylvania.

I've been avoiding processed foods for a while now, and I am currently re-introducing grains into my diet after trying the paleo lifestyle for almost a year. I FEEL good on that particular food plan, but the weight hasn't been moving, so I am readjusting to see what works.

I love, LOVE to cook, but I am a terrible baker, so that works out in a way. :) I enjoy walking/hiking, kayaking and snow shoeing. I am learning to love kettlebells. It's a tough relationship. LOL I enjoy yoga too, but don't do it near enough.

So, yeah, that's about it. Hope to be a source of humor if nothing else. Be well everyone!

Fran

Hello team!

My name is Luey and I am back again to try to get ride of this belly. I need to be 190lbs and the time is now. I plan on eating clean and run to get to my goal. I need your help keeping me focused and in line, I have a tendency to eat out of boredom and inactivity, for instance while watching tv, and it can be ugly.
I have been doing green smoothies for a while but the rest of my diet has been bad, including rum, so i need to stop.

thanks everyone, and see you all around.

Hi Everyone! I am new to this team, but not to SP. I have been doing Weight Watchers and following SWAMI which is food recommendations from a program of Dr. D'Adamo - kind of a combo of Blood Type Diet / Genotype Diet. The one thing I have noticed this year is that I do best when I am eating clean! So, a bit of a mish/mash but for me, it works!

My name is Sarah. I have been on spark people for a while but only recently have gotten really interested in what it means to eat clean. I am in no way even close to what I would consider a knowledgeable person when it comes to this so I am looking forward to meeting people who can help me meet my goals and help me to feed my family better food.

New to team but returning to SP. I'd lost 54 lbs. so I know I can do it. Mutual encouragement such as here on SP helps. Eating clean is both a religious and health mandate for me. I want to be more committed about both.

Hi my name is Sheila, I'm 63 and I live in Seattle. Two months ago I had a bicycle accident and broke my hip. So I'm in rehab and exploring my nutrition as I work to reverse Osteoporosis. I found SP due to the excellent ability to track specific micro-nutirients. I've been vegan since 1990 but ate a lot of processed soy until 2007 when I switched to a whole foods program based on Joel Fuhrman's Eat to Live.I've gained some weight due to the inactivity for the injury and just got the green-light to start walking again. I'm excited to be here and look forward to getting involved with the community.

hello! my names Danielle and I'm interested in eating clean. the more I learn the more I feel I can achieve. I'm married and me and my husband both need to drop "a few" pounds and I think as picky as he is clean eating would work for both of us. the only thing we have to watch for is my daughter is allergic to eggs but buying things with fewer ingredients would help us keep track of eggs so much easier (another selling point to my husband). Anyhow I'm gonna stop rambling and just say HI! :)

Hi! I am not new to SP but I am new to this team :) I have been eating a whole foods based diet for a few weeks now and I feel great! I am down a few pounds already and I have changed my focus from losing weight to living and eating healthy and clean. Hopefully the scale will continue to show the rewards of eating real unprocessed foods!

Hello everyone! I've been eating clean for the past 8 months...but for some reason I'm really having a hard time with maintaining my focus this month! Feeling like I needed to join a like minded group who have similar goals in mind! I've already seen the benefit of eating clean...now to get back on track!!

Hi, my name is Jennifer. I'm just getting back into Spark after a couple years and I'm new to this team. I see clean eating as whole foods, farmer's market, or my own garden if possible. It doesn't mean I don't occasionally have a cheeseburger or cake, but I don't keep them around the house. I've found a nutritional system that I trust and I'm looking for people with similar goals.

Hi Watson,
To me, eating clean means no precessed foods, no refined sugars, no GMOs, only organic real food, condiments and sauces, even ice cream, etc that you can make from real food and real food ingredients. I just started a Clean detox that comes with a really informative guide.
Follow the link to see Dr. Jumger's Clean Program guide, there is also loads more info on the website. You don't have to do the detox, just scroll thru the guide to see what you can and can't eat on this program. Admittedly, its quite extreme, but you will definitely know what it means to be clean after you read it. Plus, it has some good clean recipes in the last few pages ;)

Thank you Pam that helps a lot. Like the idea of homemade BBQ sauce. Apparently research is in my future.

I think you've got the right idea about clean eating, but BBQ sauce can go either way depending on what is in it and how it's made.

I make mine from scratch with tomatoes cooked down to a thick sauce, a sweetener such as brown sugar, and seasonings like cinnamon, minced onion and garlic, etc.--with no preservatives. An acceptable clean recipe, I think. However, I do recall seeing someone post of eating other, IMO, not-so-clean foods such as hamburger (esp. fast food or other genetically modified meat). I can't remember if the posted food was hamburger or something else, but I did as you did and questioned if it the poster might not have it figured out yet--in this case I already knew it was not a good choice she had made.

We are all at different levels of maintaining or attaining a clean (er) diet and lifestyle and occasionally we get seemingly conflicting or confusing information. At times like that, I just try to do a little more research before I make solid conclusions.

Hope this helps . . . from the peanut gallery . . .

I am new to the concept of eating clean. I thought I understood what it meant until I started reading some of the responses. I was under the perception that eating clean meant eating foods without additives or preservatives. Organic & natural. I saw someone using BBQ sauce, which I thought would have one of the two no-nos. Can someone explain the meaning behind eating clean? emoticon

I'm not new to eating clean. I'm a organic, sustainable foodie and locavore. I don't eat processed foods, fast foods or refined sugars. I use to think agave nectar and honey were ok, but I've cut sugar back to stevia or on rare occasions, unfiltered maple syrup.
The good news is that although I'm about 40-50 lbs overweight, my cholesterol and blood sugars are fine and for someone of my age and weight, I think that is a huge credit to my clean diet.
However, as Pam_Cooper so elegantly stated, I've gained weight due to "an unhealthy balance of healthy foods, plus too much stress and compulsive eating." Yes, you can get fat on healthy food, when you eat more than you need and don't get enough exercise. My mom is sick, and I've left my job and life to care for her the past year. I dont exercise or have the time to myself that I used to. Plus, I'm constantly trying to get her to eat so I eat too.
Finally, after putting on nearly 20 lbs this past year, I've decided to get back on track - my last Spark status update was 341 days ago - was I really gone that long???
Like, Shelly I just started Dr. Junger's Clean 21-day detox. Day 3. I already eat pretty clean so I think I can stick with it. I'm hoping for some good results to motivate me to keep up the effort.

Welcome newbies! I am next-to-new and glad you are here. The more the merrier is what they say.

I've been into eating clean for 36 years, but not always disciplined -- giving into fast food and processed food more than I'd like to admit -- especially when my kids were growing up and I was so busy that a package of hot dogs and a box of mac n cheese (or fried chicken and potato salad from the deli) would become supper. I felt a little guilty, but was so overwhelmed with life and all I had going on that I was glad for something easy and something to eat.

My husband and I have always had a garden and raised most of our meat and eggs---organically. I always purchased the whole wheat bread and brown rice and even though I ate good in part, I still ate too much and in the wrong proportions. Thus, I got fat.

Now, I seldom eat processed food, I allow an exception now and then, but never BUY junk food and don't keep it in the house. I have learned portion control too!

Looking forward to learning and sharing with you.

Hi Everyone!

I am new to this group, and to clean eating. As one who has moved in this direction for a while now gradually, I read a couple of articles on clean eating, found a couple of websites with more info, and this just makes sense to me. I am excited!

Hello! I actually put a slice of lemon in my water! Its the only way I can stomach drinking 8 or more glasses a day. I also put slices of orange, or citrus fruit I have on hand. It tastes so much better! You are going to do great! I enjoy cooking too, infact. We rarely ever go "out to eat". Good luck to you! You are going to turn around your high blood pressure and cholesterol and feel better than ever!

Hi there! I'm Shelly. Busy Mom of 3, and have been following Alejandro Junger's Clean detox for a week now. I'm amazed at the energy I have, and how great I've been feeling - up until just now. I have a what feels like an allergy headache; lots of tree pollen around here. Had the same problem two days ago, used my nettie pot instead of OTC meds, and it really helped. So - I'm off to do that again!

Hello everyone, I am new to eating clean. I started a plan with a nutritionist a week ago and I can not believe the difference in just once week. I feel great and I'm losing weight. I have been on Spark before but did get away from it for awhile. I am back now, just downloaded the App for my Iphone and hope to learn more about the groups and maybe building friends for support on Spark. I look forward to sharing info.

Hi, I'm Pam and although eating clean is not a new thing for me . . . I have been 'practicing' for over 35 years . . . . however, in the past I have let down my resolve and succumbed to fast foods and quick meals when my kids were at home and I worked full time and went to school. It was easy to become lax. During those years easy and quick won out to healthy many times . . . and I ended up with an extra 150 extra pounds (now gone) on my body. It wasn't just junk food though, it was also an unhealthy balance of healthy foods, too much stress and compulsive eating that was my biggest problem. You can still get fat on healthy food, by the way, when you eat more than you need and don't get enough exercise.

My husband and I have always had a garden, canned, froze or dried our produce and raised our own meat and eggs. We've bought and ate brown rice and whole wheat bread for 35+ years and at one time even ground our own flour and baked our bread products. We even go mushroom hunting and gather a meal or two of wild asparagus every Spring (plus it is great exercise). When shopping we go for fresh or frozen over processed (with salt, sugar or other additives) in most food items, my husband still buys store bought cookies though.

Since I have gotten back on track with portion control and proper balance (fat, protein, carbs, etc.) in what I take in, I have also eliminated most of the junk foods that had made it's way back into my diet in past years. For me, the bad food I eliminated was potato chips, occasional 'junk' fast food meals, 99% of fried foods, sausage (yes, even home grown), most cheese and/or pasta dishes and white sugar. Some things I have eliminated more because they were trigger foods (i.e. chicken and dumplings, mac n' cheese) that would spur a much larger than needed portion. I still buy dill pickles (I have no luck canning pickles), soy sauce, sugar free jello and lite cool whip and enjoy an occasional fountain soda.

Looking forward to stopping in from time to time to learn and share.

Update! NO MORE Wiggle room on my weight! Still figuring out how to keep balance and stay in charge. Staying active but could step it up again.

*waves* Hi! I'm fairly new to the clean eating habit. I started March 1st and am thrilled with how things are going. I'm not 100% clean, but I've made good changes and that's what I was looking for.

Hi everyone, I'm Sarah

I'm kinda new to eating clean. I started paleo about 2 weeks ago, fell off the wagon for most of last week and now I'm back on track along with my boyfriend. I loved how eating paleo and clean made me feel and I can't wait to get back to how I was feeling at the end of the 1st week of paleo.

Hiya! I'm Jill. I'm a mom of 2, half of a homeschooling team with DH (a stay at home dad), and a paralegal. I'm not new to clean eating, but I've never done it consistently or completely. I'm also avoiding shellfish & pork (scavengers/bottom feeders). Once the fridge & freezer are emptied and restocked it will all be easier, but for right now I'm trying to balance the meals each day to only have one that is not clean.

Hello from western Canada! I'm not new to clean eating, in fact, I've always been in love with fruits and vegetables.. problem is I'm a foodie and got my bake on for the past 5 years since becoming a stay at home mom and have been yo yo'ing in the last year because I stopped eating as "clean" as I used to. Looking to make friends with some like minded friends and stop the bingey hangry feelings from my blood sugar being all over the place from my baked goods habits.. -.-

Also going allergen free completely, so no gluten here or dairy.

Hello all! My name is Amy and I am 38 (eeek) as of yesterday. I am a home school mama to 2 kids, and wife to a trucker. My husband is retiring soon, in May and we both want to eat healthier. We took the plunge this week and bought a Vitamix blender, it's scheduled to get here on Monday!! So I have been researching clean eating/raw food for a few days now.
I recently got a membership to the fitness club here and go to classes 4 days a week and swimming on Sunday afternoons.
I am a photographer and run my own business, that keeps me busy too. I mostly work with families, newborns, maternity and seniors.

Well, enough about me, I look forward to learning about clean eating!

Hi! I'm Lindsey. I'm 26 years old and from New Hampshire. I'm looking to lose at least 65 pounds but would love to be under 200! I had lost 65 pounds a few years ago when I originally joined SP but with some major life changes that last few years and particularly the last few months I've gained the weight back. I'm hoping to get my clean eating habits back because I feel so much better in my day to day.

I'm getting married in October 2015 so I have added motivation to lose the weight and keep it off.

I hope I can find some new friends on here as all of my old friends seem to be inactive!!

Hi. I' new here and am willing to learn from others how to eat healthier so I can live a long, happy life to be with my family and friends. I've been reading and seeing a nutritionist how to eat better and welcome advice and suggestions how to do it. I love to cook and bake and am looking for recipes and other ideas how to accomplish this. If this helps, I have T2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. I exercise daily and drink plenty of water. I heard putting a slice of lemon or lime in water is also helpful. Please welcome me and have a great day.

Hello Everyone!
I'm new to the group and have recently began eating clean. It's been challenging at times, but I can tell the numerous results will be worth it :)

Coming back on board after taking a break for a while.
Need to get fit for spring, and having a lot of trouble managing fatigue and overeating. I have made a lot of good strides this year-staying pretty abstinent from sugar, eating mostly whole foods, etc., but my problem is volume and timing. I overeat a lot from being too tired, or from feeling tense and sore. It's a sort of inappropriate use of food that I'd like to overcome. Of course, I am always interested in getting ideas for new, great recipes too! Glad to be back.

Hello I tried out Spark People for a few months last year and I am restarting with new frame of mind. I am 61 years old and for the past few years have been making changes to my diet. This started with fear of clogged arteries. 2 years ago when I noticed constant tightness/pressure in my chest. I had no insurance so started watching and reading medical information. I deleted all white food and all high fat dairy products from my eating. The chest pressure went away and for the first time in many years I had normal blood pressure. After seeing documentaries on how bad and chemically treated food is this seems like a good team for me to join! I need to lose 50 lbs and 2 weeks ago upon finishing a Seasonal job saw this as a good time to get focused on changing my life style. Looking forward to being a part of the team!!!
