Feel free to be a lurker or a participant on any of our threads. The Daily thread gets a lot of traffic and is full of motivation and support. Hello. I will probably be very lurky on here, but I will try to write more.

I don't know how long I have had depression, but not till recently did I fall into a severe depression. Most of my depression roots from a low self-esteem and relationship woes. I have major anxiety also contributing.

I currently live in Japan, and have trouble tracking my calories. So I have not been active lately on SP. Hopefully I can figure out how to do tracking better.

My goals are to be healthier emotionally. I want to be able to look in a mirror and be proud of who I am and love myself. Currently I can not see it, but I know there is some reason to love myself.

Sorry for the long post. Nice to meet everyone

What a struggle you have had! The good news is that now is the time for you! What better gift can you give to your 6 children than the gift of a healthy mommy. This journey is about taking time for you to become healthier. Small goals that you can work toward is a great start. A 10 minute walk with your older kids or a game of tag with all of the kids will help you get started. Know that we are here to help you succeed. Lean on the team for support and motivation!

emoticon back, JOFESTER. You are so right! Eating healthier and exercising regularly can affect the way we feel. Even 10 minutes of walking outside can change our moods for the better and add a bit of vitamin D from the sunlight. This being said, I'm so sorry that you are struggling. You can get back to where you were 6 years ago, but it takes time, patience and many healthier choices. If you haven't already, talk to your doctor about your plans. Many times they can and will help you set up some small, intermediate and long term goals as well as help you monitor your health along the way. In the meantime, we are here for you.

Hi Debbie! I I am just returning from a long time away from here. I suffer from depression and I find that what I eat and how much or how little I exercise has a big effect on my depression. I do have to take meds after having suffered an extreme chronic episode. But the other things- like eating the right stuff and exercising make me feel much more confident and secure.

Hi from California! My name is Debbie & I am new to this team emoticon
I've been struggling with my depression end of my bipolar for about 6 months now.
As my health has not been the best lately, I thought I was just tired all the time.
After reading articles on SP, I've been getting more educated & am looking for a new DR & support from others.I have come to realize I can't do this alone anymore-it doesn't work emoticon

Hi, Jessica. Wish Id seen your post earlier. I hope you pulled yourself out the door and got your hair cut! Ive been so low that I couldn't even get out of bed but my kids could make me. Itd make me mad but I would get out of bed. Some times Id even smile. I know it hurts to even move right now but try.
You didnt ask for my opinion but Im giving it to you anyway. Dont hide this from your daughter. Children sense when things arent right. Better she know whats going on than to assume you are angry with her.
Check in here often so people can help support you while your down.

Try to set some small goals to help you replace some of your old, unhealthy habits. For example, replacing your drinks with water or getting 10 minutes of exercise a day. Also it helps to track them under "Other Goals" (found under "My Trackers") so you can watch your streak grow day to day. Whatever you decide, stay connected to your teams. They really can help you stay motivated.

Hi, I'm Kelly, I've been with SP for awhile but took a long break. Now I'm back and am struggling to get my depression back under control. I seem to need stronger and higher dosages of all my meds. FRUSTRATING. I would like to see the scale move in the opposite direction again. Maybe that will be the turning point that I so desperately need. Anyway, thanks for letting me share.

I know that it takes a lot of energy and work (at least that is how I feel) to be physically healthier, especially when you're just starting out, but for me being conscientious about my food & exercise also helps manage my depression by improving my energy and taking the edge off of my anxiety.

my name is Jenna.. ive been dealing with being overweight for most of my life. when i was a youngin i remember going to the local donut shop with my grandma and eating 3 donuts and hot chocolate.. i also remember being allowed to eat whatever i wanted when i was young.

i am actually bipolar, but i cant remember how to search for another team on here. but i mean depression is definatly a part of bipolar.. in a big way! im emotionally stable now.. took a long road but im there! (at least my therapist says so! lol)

i would also like to have one of those tracker thingies people have at the bottom or on their page but i dont know how to do that either.. i guess i need a mentor? lol

my sister is getting married next year and i hope to drop alot of weight by then.. i mean, i have a little over a year!

im going to the doc next week to learn more about lap band surgery..

being bipolar and taking all those meds at night makes me hungry. :(

ok as you can probably tell, my mind wanders haha.

this is it for now. im going to go take a walk soon! even tho its like 20 degrees outside! yuck!

Hi all, I'm Mel. I joined the group a long time ago, but this is my first post here. I'm 26 and have suffered from chronic depression since childhood. Unfortunately, being from a country which is a couple of decades behind in terms of mental health awareness, I didn't have any support growing up.

For the last 7 years (around the time I moved to the UK) doctors and psychiatrists have put me on different antidepressants, to finally conclude (last week) that I am practically immune to them. So I am currently on Mirtazapine, not so much for depression but to help me sleep - the side effects being that I'm always drowsy and extremely hungry, no matter how much I eat.

I actually have a diagnosis of BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder), but since I was diagnosed 2 years ago, it's become a label which -ironically- made people in my life understand me better, but made mental health workers put me at the bottom of their priority list. After two years of being officially in the care of the local mental health team, I am actually worse.

I will be moving to Australia in a month, and hoping that I'm luckier with the mental health services roulette than I was here. I know the move will help in other aspects of my health (I have FMS and PCOS too), so my life is bound to improve. I am 26 years old and still waiting for my life to start. I have been waiting for my mental health problems to disappear so that I can start living. What I really need is to learn to live with -and in spite of- my mental health problems.

Sorry for the lenghty introduction. I'm happy to have joined, and hope I can fit in.

Hi,
Just wanted you to know that I am facing the same things. I lost both my parents a while ago but still feel the sadness and loneliness that comes with that. Right now it is all I can do to get through the day.. I just want to stay in bed. My doc increased my depression med yesterday so I will see how that goes. As far as the eating at night goes eat healthy stuff. Fruits or yogurt are good. The yogurt will satisfy the need then just go to bed and pray.

emoticon to the team, DOLPHINSIMBA. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of both your father and your uncle. My heart goes out to you. No wonder you have no motivation! You are grieving on so many different levels. Give yourself time to work through the grief. For now, set one or two small goals. (Like getting all your water for the day or eating 2 freggies each day) That might be all you can handle at the moment. Know we are here as you move the grief process offering motivation, support and friendship.

Hello everyone. I have been with spark for awhile, but have not done much with it till now. I am really trying to focus on getting better health wise, physically and mentally. I have been having a rough go lately and am finding it very hard to be motivated. I have the want, but not the drive. My father was diagnosed with Cancer in october of 2012. While he was going through that my uncle passed away from a heart attack and then my father just passed away here on December 29, 2012. All though I feel for the most part I am doing ok with everything, I still find that all I want to do is sleep and have little to no energy. The simplest tasks wear me down. I also seem to be wanting to eat late at night because that's the time I think about my dad, when everythings quite and there is nothing to preoccupy my mind. Does anyone here have any suggestions on how to get motivated and stay that way?

Allow yourself the time to grieve for both your husband and your father and the resulting changes within your family. It is indeed a difficult time.
