Hope, you have an amazing story. You indeed give hope to all of us.

My mother was intensely abusive to all of us but we pay our duty calls because she is 94 and needs some help. I live furthest away.

This week we were all together including my husband. (I'm the only one still married.) At lunch the 'children' talked freely as friends, something Mother never tolerated. My husband was shocked at the way we talked about the woman who said, epileptics should be put down because they are nothing but useless animals. She also said, 'If I ever get helpless, put me down.' We talked about how helpless she is because she is still so manipulative. My husband was horrified by the way we talked. My sister informed him that she plays nice with some people including him. My brother backed her up. They clarified that I felt more of the abuse because I was 'the good girl' and didn't stand up to her the way they did.

Hope, between reading your story and visiting family this week, I am starting to feel cleansed. Thank you for your part.

Thanks for complimenting my weight loss, Hope, but the ticker you see doesn't give the true picture. I'd gotten down to 196, so the current figure reflects regain. And it's gotten worse since I last changed the ticker. I've not given up, though. Just need to figure out an approach that will get me going again.

If you want to make your page public, go there. Click on "Edit My Page" at the upper right of the screen. You'll get a list of options, one of which is something similar to "make my page public." Click that and then click "Save Changes," which, I believe will have momentarily replaced "Edit My Page." You'll then be back at the page in it's regular appearance.

Welcome, Hope, and thank you for sharing your story so freely. You've worked hard to achieve the pride and stability that you're enjoying. You've been brilliant and colossally brave in facing so many challenges. I just had a mental picture of you driving a shiny, red roadster along a bumpy lane. Each jolt to the car forces your head back and your chin up. That's it: You hold your chin high as you grip the wheel and control the car.

Happy Friday everyone!
About a year ago I changed my name to Hope because I am all about Hope and rebuilding. I grew up with abusive, cruel parents and as a result have lived with PTSD and depression all my life. I was so symptomatic fifteen years ago that I was hospitalized for three years. Re-entering society was so difficult because I had no social or coping skills and no one to help me learn the skills I so desperately needed.
I declined conventional therapy ten years ago and insisted my therapist teach me assertiveness and relationship skills which she did every week for four years. This wasn't my therapist's area and she learned as much as I did because she had to research everything she taught me. This therapy helped so much but I knew I needed more but didn't know what I was searching for or where to look. When I was ready to learn the teacher appeared and gave me the tools I needed to begin the brilliant, lifelong journey I have been following for four years now.
There is no magic pill or therapy or system that will work for everyone but you can't stop searching for whatever it is that works for you.
I have been in the same upper management position for ten years now and most of the time I love my job and the people I serve. People issues still are my biggest hurdle but I learn every day that there is a gift and a lesson in even the most challenging situations. It isn't easy but life is good now and I am so grateful for how far I have come. Remember that without the difficult times you would not be able to appreciate or enjoy the good times.
A great mantra I use a lot is "what we think about and talk about, comes about". This has proven true in my life so many times and focusing on the negative stuff that wants to consume me sometimes only makes it worse. I hope this information is useful for someone and I'm always willing to share more of what I've learned.
