Listened to the "Live" concert from Lincoln Center last night with YoYo Ma and then went to bed about 11 PM. About 25,000 people were in downtown Pensacola for the party and the fireworks and Pelican Drop. Some of my adult children went down there.

Happy New Year!

Day 37! All about stress. And facing the fact that I can’t control the whole universe, that some people don’t like me or even hate me. Not my fault. Can’t do anything about it. Let it go!.... :-)

Hello, friends!

We just got back yesterday from our family trip. Technically I had internet the whole time but I rarely used it-- too focused on the people and the fun... and the food. I don't regret it but I will be working hard over the next few days to get back on track.

GWEN-- try to use your energy to focus on what you are doing right now, not the past. You can't change the past but you can impact your present and your future!

I am focusing today on making vegetables and more vegetables. We don't have any special plans today or tomorrow, and I am glad to have some down time to regroup.

e - well done for staying the same over Christmas!

Day 36 for me - an excellent day! I realised my whole attitude to weight loss has changed and I really believe I am going to get to goal, and stay there, without delay, and therefore am eating right and exercising right etc

Ending the year fighting getting sick. A co worker last week came to work sick with a fever, guess what I am trying to keep it at bay. I am suppose to go away for a couple of days cross country skiing- leaving Sunday.
Tracked my food, didn't eat much of my packed food as I wasn't feeling good, slept most of the evening.

Have a safe New Years Eve

So Day 34 is about problem solving. For instance if you’re feeling so overwhelmed with all the housework you have to do that you can’t face doing any of it, think about what you can do about this. Perhaps just do a few simple tasks that will make you feel better and then you may feel more like doing some more.

Day 35 was a review of getting our mind set right before we get on the scales.

Day 36 tomorrow!

I sort of fell off the wagon for awhile but back now. Today I made my menu for the week and did my shopping.
Today is day 8
I did my scheduling for spending time working on my program daily. I will pack my breakfast and lunch for tomorrow tonight so it will be ready.

Just starting again with this wonderful plan which worked well for me in the past. It's a little bit of work but worth it. I've got all my advantages to lose weight posted in Spark People so they continuously scroll and constintly remind of what I want to do!

If nothing changes, nothing changes.

Day 33 for me. Emotional eating. I hate feeling bad! But I want to lose weight. As I am not immune to the little trials that life brings, I will just have to act like a big girl, and feel the pain while refusing to budge from my diet and exercise plan, because I want to lose weight. My reasons are on my page, in the front of my food journal, and on my advantages record card. I am going to get what I want, and I am not going to let uncomfortable emotions stop me!

Hi again! Decided to do another day as day 31 wasn't really relevant for me. Day 32 was really relevant cos I'm going for a weekend at MILs soon, so it's helped me get a plan of action together, and I've written a reminder in my diary about it all.

Basically eat 26 ww points and exercise at least an hour for the 3 days before we go and the 2 days after.

Make a food plan and shopping list for the week cos I'll never stick to 26 points if I don't.

Don't snack on the evening we arrive or at all over the weekend. It's just not worth it!

Eat as close as poss to what I do at home.

Eat 1 portion of cake or dessert with meals cos this is what I have saved my weekly points for.

Day 31 for me today - easy peasy - I don't drink any more cos I don't like most of it any way and what I do like gives me a headache and makes me feel sleepy so I'd rather not have it!

Am starting on the pre BLC24 registration team challenges. Excited about that!

I will still do Beck each day til it's done, which will be before BLC24 starts properly. After that I do plan to continue reviewing a day every now and then (every week maybe) and checking in here when I do so.

Loadsa people here without electric/flooded etc too. I'm grateful for my warm comfy home.

I am on day 9 of beck. there is no way I want to get bogged down with beck chapters while doing BLC that would not work. So I will go thur what I need to review. I forgot to tell that the BLC round 24 for newbies and former members is opened.

I was complaining about it being cold in Pensacola, Florida this morning, but then I see on the news where thousands of people are without power in the U.S. and Canada, so I will be happy for my day. I'm sure this is a problem for many Sparkers.

Pat - we can do this! There's no pressure to do the whole book. I have the time right now so I'm working through a day of the book each day. But after that I just want to keep working on the book to keep it fresh in my mind. Even if all I do is review one day each week.

So I did day 29 which was all about food pushers ("no thank you but can I have some more salad or a cup of tea please") and being entitled to say no when someone tries to make you eat what you don't want to eat. If they get funny about it, they're the one with the problem, not me! And I did day 28 which is all about preparing yourself mentally *before* you step on the scales. If it doesn't say what you want it to say, don't panic! Check you've been eating and exercising right, and if you have wait till next week, and if the scales say naughty things again, then that is the time to decide what changes you are going to make to your diet and exercise plan.

GWYNLEE2; I understand your frustration. But realize that without being here for the last 10 1/2 yrs, you'd probably be about 316# now. Honestly. I started over six years ago at 214# and for me that was a horrible weight as my back hurt so much and my feet. I am now in the 170s and I know I should have gotten down to my goal, but I keep telling myself that without Sparks, I'd probably be about 314# now since it is so easy to just keep gaining once you are fat. I've learned so much from Richard Bernstein M.D. "The Diabetes Solution" about being Insulin Resistant. He says ALL obese people can benefit from taking Metformin to help with weight loss. Also, Dr. Mercola has a lot of information about doing Intermittent Fasting, which is explained on his web site & on YouTube in his lectures. He says it lowers insulin levels. It is only done for one day. So, I'm looking to try something different come January 1st.

good advice Pat. I like it.

I am up 2.6 pounds over the past 2 weeks. I am 4 pounds heavier this Christmas than last Christmas. I have been using Spark People for 10-1/2 years--starting weight 240 pounds (I was heavier but I don't know what I weighed). I lost maybe 20 pounds to get to 240. I now weigh 216. I was at 202. Why am I saying this?? becuase I am really disappointed in myself for the terrible lack of progress losing. I feel like I should have been at my goal weight by this time. Geeez Louise. 10-1/2 years on spark people is OVER A DEDCADE!!.

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it!

Happy solstice (yesterday) and longer days and more light to everyone! The darkness of winter, the cold and the loss of evening light here, make it so much harder for me to keep on my exercise routines and stay active and energized. I'm going to use the next three days to try to get back in the groove so the weekend will be easier.

Our presents to each other are now wrapped and under the tree. This is making our younger cat insane. She is just so excited she keeps running around and crying.

Energize Your Holiday Spirit
Follow our nutrition and fitness tips to stay energized and upbeat all season long.
Article By: S. Kirk Walsh
8 Ways To Energize Your Holiday Spirit

This time of year, it doesn't take much for your exercise routine and nutrition know-how to slip through the seasonal cracks. Suddenly, your already-busy schedule is bulging with parties, shopping and other holiday preparations.

The result? You have less energy. You feel sluggish. You reach for a sweet instead of a healthier option. The treadmill at your gym is becoming a distant memory.

"During the stress of the holidays, it's more important than ever to take care of yourself in order to maintain your mental and physical well-being," explains Melissa Johnson, executive director of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

Is it possible to take care of yourself, maintain your energy and enjoy the festivities of the season? Absolutely! Try the following tips from fitness and nutrition experts, and you'll be surprised how they'll boost your holiday spirit.

Fuel your mornings
"Eat breakfast, and make sure it includes some protein and whole grain," suggests Christine Gerbstadt, MD, RD, and a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association (ADA) based in Pennsylvania. "It will rev up your engine at the beginning of the day." For example, eat yogurt, a piece of fruit, and a whole-grain roll or try oatmeal with skim milk, sprinkled with almonds or walnuts.

Don't fall for the java jive
As many of us know, caffeine disguises itself as a temporary pick-me-up but, in fact, it could leave you feeling more tired within a couple of hours. "Sixteen ounces of caffeine in the form of tea or coffee has been shown to be safe," Gerbstadt says, "but anything beyond that can make you feel jittery and agitated." Instead, reach for a cup of caffeine-free or herbal tea.

Stick to your exercise routine
Maintain your exercise routine, says Johnson. "Actually expending energy will help you to have more energy." If needed, break up your routine into 15-minute increments, so you can squeeze it into different parts of your day. "Go for a short brisk walk outside," suggests Lona Sandon, assistant professor of nutrition at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and a spokesperson for the ADA. "The fresh air will make you feel better and also take away from the stress of your desk or preparing a meal for your extended family of 20."

Try the buddy system
"Find an exercise buddy during the holidays," says Johnson. "This person will keep you accountable for your exercise and also provide built-in support."

Stay in step
When you're at the mall, wear a pedometer, suggests Johnson. The device will prove to be a good motivator for counting your steps while doing your holiday shopping.

Use good sense
"Avoid overeating. I know this sounds like a no-brainer," says Sandon, "but it can happen easily at holiday office parties." Eat a healthy snack, such as carrot sticks, a banana, or a hard-cooked egg or before showing up to the party. "Treat these events like an everyday eating occasion and not an indulgence," says Sandon. "It's a holi-day — not a holi-week or a holi-month."

Get your zzzzz
"Get enough sleep," suggests Sandon. "No party is worth not getting enough sleep." And this is often one of the first things to give in your self-care routine.

Be wary of spirits
Avoid excessive alcohol consumption, says Gerbstadt. According to the distilled spirits industry, 12 ounces of beer equals one and half ounces of liquor or five ounces of wine. At holiday parties, stay aware of how much you are consuming; it doesn't take much to start taking a toll on your body.

I had to share this I hope the leaders don't mind. emoticon

Day 27 for me. I'm doing one day each day, and I'll be done by the time BLC24 starts, but once I'm done I will review a day at a time and check in here to report on my review whenever I have a few spare moments. So day 27 was an awesome set of questions. I will add them to the back of my advantages card. And "I'd rather be thin" and "get out of the kitchen"... two very useful phrases to practise!

No baked goods for me I a can not handle them at present time. I will monitor myself when if and when I am stronger to have them. I can not stop at one and I would crave more. I just completed day 1 and 2 of beck but will only post one a week. BLC24 will begin the middle of January. I do not want to have to much on my plate.

Gwynnie congrats for your journey so far. You will reach your goals. You are determined.

Good morning! It has been a crazy week so I haven't progressed any further. I am at work for a couple of hours today before heading out to the mall to finish my shopping. We are headed out of town tomorrow. Not sure when I will be back on-line.

Candy - don't forget to say well done to yourself every time you do something helpful... and... every time you don't do something unhelpful!

So for me it is day 25 and I need to remember to watch what I'm thinking when I am tempted by unplanned eating, so I can figure out where my own personal little traps are.

I am so happy today because everything is going right again on the weight loss front!

Ladies (and gents if there are any here).....

emoticon Oh, making FUDGE. emoticon emoticon Remember, Judith Beck PhD, says that 15% increase for special celebrations is acceptable. Save up on calories now and "bank" them for coming parties/dinners this next two weeks. Drink no-calorie drinks as that saves a LOT. We have a lot of lemons right now with everyone having lemon trees, so I'm making fresh squeezed lemonade with stevia.

Isaiah 43:2

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you.

Joshua 1:9

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

What did I do or should I say didn't do- plan and pack breakfast and lunches. I only did planning for the first part of the week and I fell apart the second half. Christmas week is going to be tough eating right.
Today I will be baking for Christmas, cookies, fudge. I will also be making my menu for the week and shopping.
Have a great Saturday!

I am an intellingent person. I will control my emotions and not let my emotions control me. Everytime I am tempted to use food to satisfy my frustrated desires, build up my enjured ego or dull my senses, I will remember...even though I overeat in private, my excess poundage is there for all the world to see.
I will take off pounds sensibly!

Gwynlee2 - wow! Fruit and scrambled eggs at a party?! Well done you! :-)

Day 24 for me today. Just have to bite the bullet when the going gets tough I guess. And not let little slips turn into big slips (in more ways than one!)
