yeah, there's a couch to 5k program and i'm sure a couch to 25k program, too

also, if you need musical motivation and have an mp3 player, look on iTunes and download the podcast "Podrunner intervals"--each track is a different week of music with cues to tell you when to speed up or slow down (the first podcast explains it all), and it starts out at a normal pace and cues you at different times to increase speed for a short time then decrease. it helps you gradually, like a musical version of the couch to 5k program (it'll help out up to 10K, and has a heart rate mix, too, if you want). its pretty cool, and i'll redownload it myself when i get back to running training (just getting back into a good exercise program myself).

be good and safe--have fun!

I think there are online programs like the C25K that help work toward a marathon but I'm not positive. www.marathonrookie.com/marathon-trai

Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength

I must learn to love the fool in me- the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries...

I just returned to Houston and joined this team again this month. I have been thinking about training to run a marathon, because I have never done this before. I was wondering if anybody knew of a free or affordable way to do this (I'm unemployed) and if any spark people are already getting together for something like this. I would be a beginner and not very fast.
