Good on you Lucinda. It's not a fluffy, airy cake, it's more like a brownie.

The chocolate cake recipe sounds wonderful! I think I try to make it with a gluten free baking mix instead of the flour and see what happens. Lucinda emoticon emoticon

emoticon for your input. I may do the trial and error. i am always good for making up recipes and, for the most part, they seem to turn out all right. emoticon

I have never made it with anything else, but you could also use prunes. The dates substitute for the fat/butter, the raisins might work if you cook them until mushy, I'm not sure if applesauce would be dense enough.

Trial and error may be the way to go.

Jules, have you ever tried it with applesauce or raisins as a substitute for dates? I don't keep dates in the house but the others I always have. Just curious.

Hi FLOWERDALEJEWEL. I have seen a couple recipes like yours and they are good. I may have to try yours in the near future. Being another "certifiable chocoaholic" too, I will take any that can be a little healthy too :)D

Well....I'm am a CERTIFIED CHOCOHOLIC....haha....but seriously, when I'm having a huge chocolate ATTACK....I get out 1/4 measuring cup and put chocolate chips in it and munch VERY SLOWLY!!! This works for me....I'm not depriving myself and it lasts and tastes great too! I also reach for the sugar free pudding cups when I'm at work....some of the flavors are super!
XOXO,

It's hard if you have a sweet tooth to find things that don't go straight on the hips. This is my Guilt Free Chocolate Cake, you can make it in a square pan and cut it into squares for when you have that yearning for something sweet.

Please don't worry about the dates you do not know they are there once you have mixed and baked this cake.

I am one that can crave chocolate and actually need to have it built into my calorie base. I can snack on the healthiest foods, drink an extra liter of liquids ( I drink 12 cups + daily) and do a little exercise and not have any luck subduing the beast. So, I add it in and I am satisfied for the next 24 hrs. Some times you just have to feed it (small portions!!!)

i found this site that talks about carbs. You can try working with the glycemic index foods and see how that works. There is an article on SP that covers it.

I love hot tea with a little almond milk and splenda in it! It's a nice way to end the evening. I also like sugar free hot cocoa (25 calories) with almond milk in it.

Make sure you allow for some calories for healthy snacks. I like berries with plain yoghurt, wholegrain cookies made with Xylitol instead of sugar, wholegrain crackers with cheese. If you plan on allowing yourself maybe 100-200 calories a day you can enjoy many holiday treats.
If you love sweet things try to make things with Xylitol, Stevia or even small amounts of honey but use less than what the recipe calls for. Also avoid anything low-fat because you will have to make up for the lack of flavor by adding more sugar, far worse for you than fat.
Hope this helps,
Birgit

Good question! For me, I'm better off to go ahead and have a small portion of what I'm craving. I take a couple bites and wait about 10 minutes...usually does the trick and I haven't totally sabotaged myself. I love dark chocolate and a small piece of really good dark chocolate goes a long way!
