If you knee is injured, you can exercise. Just walking helps a ton. I screwed my ankle up for the 1000th time in June fixing up my house, and I'm pushing on. I am slowly finally able to do more with it, even though it hurts like hell some nights. I truly do try to push myself every time that I'm working out now. I want to make this time get me in shape in time for when my son is ready to play organized sports.
And I'm 28, so this is my 128th time around but I'm sticking to it too! Good luck on your 100th time...you will succeed.

Nicole :)

do you have any particular "go to" foods for when you're rushed or that you eat out of habit (like I have a yogurt most days as a snack, or an apple and piece of cheese). Evaluate those, and incorportate routine times for meals and snacks. My breakfasts & snacks are nearly the same most days, so just planning lunch & dinner makes it easier. Then, I know part of my meals will be either a large salad or steamed veggies. Now all I have to think about is my main dishes...and I tend to fix (normally grill) large amounts of meats and eat them for several days, so now, I'm just pulling leftovers. and only having to decide what really sounds good 2-3x per week (I have a toddler...time to think doesn't happen much! LOL)

After taking the thought out of the meal (I do my thinking at the grocery store, and mostly stick to produce, meats, and dairy to avoid temptations) now all I have to consider daily is portion sizes. Using a measuing cup/spoon and a food scale help alot there, as does the recipe calculator. I weigh and measure just about everything I eat, to make sure I keep my portions in mind.

I aim for 8 cups of water before leaving work, because I know I'll probably only sip at things once I'm home. All I normally drink is water, with an 8oz cup of milk after dinner (by itself, to sip and enjoy). No sodas, diet or otherwise, except for 1-2x per month. Same with juice and coffee, they have become treats. I aim for 7 fruits and veggies per day, and try to make those my main source of carbs. When I do eat bread, I aim for whole wheat or other whole grain, and I make it a treat.

I've lost count of how many times I've tried to lose weight. I know this is my 3rd or 4th run on SparkPeople, and its also been the longest by far. For exercise, my main focus has been just to keep getting up and moving, even if just to walk a lap around the house during a commercial break. For foods, I moved a LOT more things to the "treat" catergory and watch my portions on them strongly...but I do still allow myself to have them, as long as I can account for them in my plan. I try to plan for a treat at least once a week, so I never feel deprived. And face it, sometimes I cave and binge...but that doesn't mean the rest of the day can't be heathy, and it doesn't mean its time to give up, just time to GET UP. Get back up on the bandwagon, get up off my butt and do something active.

Protein and fiber... try eating 5 small meals with protein at every meal... I'm like NEVER hungry lol I feel like I can't possibly eat again often times and I have a couple hundred calories to go. Lots of veggies, some fruit, lower fat options on meats and tons of water... if you are getting all 8+ cups then often times you won't have room for more (try and space it out throughout the day... its hard at first but eventually you may even start going over your waters!). Hope that helps... oh and track anything you eat BEFORE you eat it... you may just find that extra pancake or whatever not worth it after you do. I keep a bunch of pre-portioned snacks around like carrots sticks in a bag, an apple, 1 serving of cheez-its, a greek yogurt, raisins, etc. so that if I'm hungry there is always a healthy option... and if I am hungry at the end of the day and think I'm going to fall off the wagon its only 100 or so calories verses 200, 300, or more from junk food. :)

Hey there!!! First, I want to say that even if you do "fall into temptation" it DOES NOT mean the whole day is thrown away. You don't have to be perfect to make changes!!! If you get hungry, drink a glass of water, it may help. You can do this!! One day at a time, one step at a time, you can do this!!!

We've all been there, done that! For a lot of us, it's our 100th-ish try & we've tried it all, or close to it. You're not alone! :) Like someone else said, take it 1day or 1 week at a time. The important thing to remember is to take small steps. If you go completely overboard & make a lot of changes at once, it won't stick as well. Since it sounds like food is the problem, then make that a priority first. Maybe focus on eating a healthy breakfast...or getting your water intake...whatever it is, not feel like you have to make everything do a 180 overnight! :) It took me a LONG time to really get it. I've got more willpower overall now & exercising isn't as much of a chore. YOU CAN DO THIS! If you need some friends on here to help you stay on track, add me or shoot me a message! We're all here for each other!

LISA85 thank you cuz, i really needed some ideas on what to eat in the morning,, eventhough im eating in between my calorie max amount, i feel i need to choose better meals. My breakfast was terrible,, my lunch was good, some lean meat with a cup of boiled beans. and two 50 cal. corn tortillas.. water for drink.. for dinner i had a chicken breast sandwhich with a small 150 cal. bag of chips, and 8oz powerade... i was really hungry and this actually fulled me up... BUT THE MORNING I SUCKED.. a cup of 1% milk, pancake on a stick which is 220 cal. and a tbsp of syrup which was about 90 cal.. i did ate between my calories but i believe i didnt choose right... WHAT YOU THINK??

Congratulations on your little girl!

I think try 100 may be what you need! You say that having your baby was not motivation enough, but I think you might be wrong. You are here, right? You got online to get the help you need in order to succeed and I think that means you are motivated. You don't have to jump head first and change your life, make small changes you can live with and add more as time goes. I started with tracking my food for a week, and than added exercises.

Take it one day at a time, one week at a time and set small goals for yourself. You'll see how easy you can create new habits. emoticon

Hi, welcome to Sparkpeople.

Sometimes what we really need is the support of a community to keep us going. There is a thread in the forums about finding your accountability buddy, someone that you can exchange messages with and help keep you accountable with your goals and you in return do the same for them. Help one another and encourage.

I have noticed that this community is really supportive, and even if someone who doesn't really talk much pipes up, people will reply with advice, a kind word.

I think that one of the biggest things is realizing the need for a change in your life, and one of the biggest things is that you keep trying. You might have quit before, but you are here now, right?

I wish you the best on your weight loss journey.

Hello Everyone. today is 7/22/2012 5:40pm... I look my self at the mirror and always say to myself, "nah i aint that fat yet, I'm still good".. REALLY!! i havent weight myself like in about 3 months, but the last time i weight myself i was like 272 pounds, that's the most ever in my life.. i feel fatter than 3 months ago, so i might be like 15 pounds heavier. I'm SCARED!! to even weigh myself... THE SADDEST PART.. is that i was a U.S. MARINE for 5 years, just got out 2 years ago, and look at me now. I know all the fundamentals to loose weight, the right foods the excersises etc. BUT what now?? I Dont know.. everytime i try something, i end up quitting!!.. WHATS WRONG WITH ME!!?? i have a fatty liver now, Thyroid decease, and cholesterol levels are going higher all the time... just had a baby Newborn, a girl, she is 3 months now.. I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!.. i want to be able to see her grow up.. but why isnt that even motivating me??? WHY!!!??? im about to finish my bachelors soon, only 25 years old BEARLY and already feeling like a 50 year old.. as matter of fact, im even a soccer coach, i do run with my kids from time to time, but thats not enough.. I dont choose my foods right, and everytime i finish eating i regret it!!!..... NOW I DONT EvEN know why am i writing all this... well maybe i do... yesturday i started watching a show in spanish just like biggest looser, is called (DALE CON GANAS).. and it has gotten me thinking.. and i want to try it. again.. this is prob my 100th time trying, no lie.. i have tried it all, pills, creams, sauna suits, sauna belts, tea's, gym, soccer, tuna diet, apple diet, bio shaker, insanity, p90x, hip hop abs, calorie count, AND WAY MORE.. prob have invested over thousands of dollars and always end up quitting... MAYBE I Need people to motivate me everyday to remind me that this is for my health more than my weight..... IDK!! but i NEED HELP!!.. tomorrow i want to start again.. and i seriously need alot of motivation.. i hope i can find friends here that can help me.. because i seriously feel like a looser, eventhough i dont show it to nobody.. im usually the strong one in the family, the one always taking all the hits and motivating and giving advice!!.. BUT I DONT TAKE MY OWN!!! PLEASE HELP!!!
