If you have Kroger food stores where you live, you can also buy the carbmaster brand of yogurt. It has 12 grams of protein, 4 grams of carbs, and 1.5 grams of fat in it.

I have become hooked on the Chobani Greek yogurts (that's my brand preference, I know not all areas have them - check what your local markets have). They are high in protein, about 100-150 cal each depending on flavor and yummy! I mix it up with some fresh strawberries and a Vita Muffin Top for breakfast just about every morning for 20 grams of protein and about 250ish calories (plus fiber and lots of other nutrients)

Also, I added unsalted roasted almonds to my day - I toss them in salads or grab a small handful as a mid day snack.

Hope this helps!

I use diet shakes quite a bit. I look for low carb ones. My favorite things to jazz them up are:

Put a bit of instant or left over coffee in with a chocolate shake and add a dash of cinnamon.

Add some Crystal Light powder in with vanilla for different flavours.

Blend with ice cubes for a smoothie.

If you like a more milky texture add regular (non flavoured) almond milk - good protein, low carbs, good flavor.

Protein powder- I use Nitrotech-

Mix 2 packages sugar free instant pudding, 2 (or 3 depending on consistancy) cups low fat milk, and 2 scoop protein powder- mix with mixer-
then put into 6 containers
Good snack with protein

figure out calories & protein depending on what type of protein powder & what type of milk you use (I used skim milk)

Another good snack for protein is Hormel's Turkey Pepperoni. You can have a full 17 slices as 1 serving and it will add a little spice to your day. I like to add it to my salad sometimes too.

My problem is sometime I get too much protein. I eat a lot of fish and chicken, I also eat soy products which seem to help.

I love protein, or at least i love protein sources especially meat and eggs. my problem is that i frequently go over on protein. One of the wonderful aspects of the food counter is I've used it to learn the foods to get within the range for all nutrients I track. I learned the replacing some of my meat with beans will help get me in the range. I'm a pretty big guy and getting enough protein without going ver on calories isn't my problem. My wife also struggles with getting enough protein without going over on calories. I always eat eggs for breakfast which helps a lot. my recommendeation, two eggs for breakfast and a serving of meat or fish at both lunch and supper.

When looking into protein shakes and powders, remember to watch the carb intake as well. These products will increase your protein, but may put your carbs in jeapordy as well.

Carb Solution ready made shakes are low carb and high in protein. I have not had them, but this is the best balance of nutrients I have found when reachering them.

Good Luck!

EAS Carb Advantage Protein Shakes help me. Low fat cottage cheese is the best type of protein as it has both whey and casein proteins.

I find it challenging to get enough protein. How about using whey protein. It has 20 grams per serving and 110 calories.

Karrington, I dont really eat much meat either. I will eat pork and fish though. Do you like fish at all? That is one great way to do it. Canned tuna is really easy. One thing that I do every morning is drink my "power smoothie" It is milk, flax seed, honey, EAS protein powder, frozen berries and yogurt. The addition of the protein powder is what makes it even better. I probably dont add as much as I should, but it works, and really makes a difference in how I feel during the day.

If you don't have issues with soy, there's tempeh (a fermented soy product that makes a good meat substitute), or edamame (steamed soybeans). The latter is traditionally served in the pods, but you can get them shelled at Whole Foods. You don't actually eat the shells which are kind of fuzzy, but use your teeth to pop the bean out.

LLTS01.....where are you from? I'd love to live in a place where all of the groceries sold things like quinoa. Here in New Mexico I have to go out of my way to find it so I buy it in bulk from Whole Foods. There's also a market here called Sunflower that sells quinoa and other grains in bulk, but I've never seen anything other than oats sold in the groceries around here. (But then we're generally waaaaay behind the times around here.)

What about the Special K protein water mixes?

I have to watch cholesterol too and for breakfast I usually have 3 egg whites on rye with Alpine Lace reduced fat swiss and 2 slices of Butterball Low Sodium Turkey bacon. My own little breakfast sandwich. Yummy.

To help with my protein intake I drink a protein drink called Protein Max and you can find it at GNC, it comes in different flavors, I prefer the vanilla, smells kind of like maple syrup and taste like vanilla cake icing. I find it great. I also mix with Almond Milk. I am going to try the Quinoa though, I have heard only good things of that.

Qunoa is a grain that originated in the Andes, I believe. I'm not really sure how to describe its taste but it's kind of crunchy and I like having a little bit of crunch in my yogurt. You can get it at Whole Foods and places like that. You cook it by putting equal measures of water and quinoa in a pot and simmering it for 20 minutes. It can be ground into a flour and used to make baked goods, which is nice if you're sensitive to gluten.

There was much rejoicing!

TVP - texturized vegetable protein - it comes in the bulk food section of Whole Foods here, reconstitute with water and use like ground beef in tacos, spaghetti. I love silken tofu in breakfast smoothies too (it is the softest tofu and breaks down to a smooth consistency - I am a bit of a freak about lumpies!). Egg whites/egg beaters are an option, and what about low fat string cheese or cheese sticks - I live on 'em.

Quinoa is almost the perfect food. It's gluten free, is one of the few foods that contain a balanced set of amino acides, and it has a pretty high protein content. It' also a good source of dietary fiber. I like to fix a few cups of quinoa and then put it in the fridge. Sometimes I just eat the quinoa without adding anything else to it, and sometimes I put it in my morning yogurt. There are also a lot of recipes on the web that use quinoa. Try quinoa-recipes.com or allrecipes.com to find some.

I am not much of a meat eater. I do eat some but not enough. Since I have been tracking what I eat for about a month now, I have seen where I really need to increase my protein intake. Any suggestions??? Especially for breakfast? I need something that is low in cholestoral too.
