I got two tops quilted this week. One was soooo frustrating. The thread kept breaking. I finally realized that the pantograph pattern involved a lot of "backtracking" and the machine/thread didn't like it. Plus I was almost finished and noticed that the backing wasn't long enough. I had to take the whole thing off the frame and add enough length. Then I put it back on to sew the last two rows. It took me three days to do! When normally I can get one twin top quilted in a couple of hours. Boy am I glad that one is done!!

I feel like a slacker! I made a zippered bag that went pretty well and may make one for my sister-in-law, whom we'll visit in a week. I'd LIKE to finish my Christmas present quilt but think I might do the hedgehog potholders for my DIL's mom since I finally found the pattern. Decisions, decisions! But I AM trying to cut back on stress this year, so what gets done gets done and what doesn't doesn't. At our quilt guild Christmas dinner the other night we sang the 12 Days of Things I Did Not Get Done, and it was really cute. We could all identify to some degree!

Christmas Gift quilt on hold as I make a quick gift for a friend for our gift exchange tomorrow. The more elaborate gift has to wait because I ran out of time.

What I'm working on.....

1. Bonnie Hunter's Grand Illusion mystery
2. Quilting a table runner for a friend - and hopefully getting it done before Stashbusters decided I'm Queen of UFOs (so far I'm #8 on the list and I don' wanna be #1!)
3. Slicing and dicing (VERY slowly) my way through the BOXES and BOXES of scraps my dd brought me (this is in addition to my OWN boxes and boxes as well as the boxes and boxes she sent me through the mail!) I need to make this part of my New Year challenge - maybe working on this for....uhm.... 30 minutes a day?

I am also working on a quilt with a wrapped gift block. It uses a Flying Geese unit as the bow. Our stitch group made nine identical ones and traded among ourselves so we have one from each member. A few already have theirs done, but I am optimistic that mine with be done THIS year!!

Carrie, I am working on the last of the stockings: two with machine-appliqued Boston Terriers. On satin! Ack! I am nearly ready to sew the backs to the fronts, add the (already-sewn) liners, and the cuffs. Tonight should be the night I finish! I can NOT wait!!!

I made GREAT progress on the Christmas stockings and am hoping I can finish a few today. All are ready for their backings and final trim. Well, all the ones for humans, that is. I still have to make two for DIL's Boston Terriers, which will have appliques of the BTs with their appropriate markings. I may have to photograph my work and post it in our team album.

Carol, a purse out of a neck tie sounds interesting.

For me, I went to a open sew at the LQS yesterday from 9-12 but since there were no other classes scheduled, I got to stay in 4. I got almost a whole quilt top done of Hawaiian fabrics done in a "Yellow Brick Road" pattern. I was worried that the fabrics would be too much. I still am but it does show off these fabrics.

Tonight, I want to finish the last 5 seams of the above quilt and sew down the bind of the wedding quilt that finished a few months ago.

I just finished the top to my step dad's Christmas present quilt. It is a lap quilt in Jacksonville Jags colors/print. I'm hoping to make the back tonight while watching football!!
Then I will quilt his & my mom's at the same time.
I do believe I will get them finished by Christmas.
Now, I'm trying to decide about making my oldest son one. Not sure if I could get it finished my Christmas or not. Or if I will be too tired of quilting after finishing the two I started!

So, I have one row of sashings and the border to add to my Jumping Jacks Quilt. This is going to be a gift for Christmas to our British friends and the pattern is like the British Union Jack. Trouble is, what to do about the backing. I have plain Kona Wheat that I used for the sashings but it is so "plain" and I like my backings to be interesting. I used six different fabrics for the 12 jacks and I"m thinking about making some blocks to piece into the Kona Wheat for the back. Just need the time and I have sew many other projects as well. A bag for my sister for her birthday next week is top. I can get it to the longarmer this Thursday so I need to devote time to it. It would be nice to piece in their name on the back and there is a blog hop with letters going on right now as well. It would be 7 letters dancing all over the back of the quilt. Wheeler. I could use the six fabrics from the front. And use the wheat as the background for the letters and piece it into the rest of the wheat. That would be fun. What do you think? And the date 2014 and maybe USA for the time here. One day they will return to ENgland and I see lots of trips in my future. Carol P.S. If I decide to do this, I don't think I'll have time to get it done before Thursday.

I had to change the Christmas stocking designs because the satin fabric is giving me fits! I know there HAS to be a way to keep it from slipping and sliding so much, but at this point I don't have the time OR the inclination to find out, so the linings and backs will be cotton instead, as will be the batting if I use any. I need to get these DONE so that I can quit stressing over them!

I cut out fabric for the "Barbados" bag from Pink Sand Beach Designs to make a purse for my sister for her birthday on Sunday. She doesn't carry bags much but they are going on a four month cruise in January and I thought she might be able to use it. I went to a quilt shop in a town north of me to try and find a coordinating fabric to go with my lighthouse fabrics I bought in Maine this summer. There was only one fabric in the whole store that matched the blue in my fabrics. Luckily it kind of looks like a life ring from a boat so will work with my blue anchors and white and blue lighthouses. You don't find much lighthouse fabric here in North Florida, only seashells. Still working on my son and DIL's family Christmas stockings. I ran into trouble when I melted the fabric on one piece. It just needed a "bit" more heat, but I wasn't being careful enough. It's a good thing I have more fabric!

I'm putting the sashing on the Leah Day Free Motion Quilt-Along. I'm about half finished now. After the sashing is on, then all that is left is binding.

On Tuesday I'll be picking up a kit that makes 10 Christmas stocking for the maternity ward at the local hospital. I did it last year and had a great time and the staff were so appreciative. They send all the December babies home in the stockings.

I am not working on anything as I have no machine where I am and when you fly bringing one from home is NOT going to happen.

My friends and I have completed 90 quilt tops for soldiers. With an additional 30 from Kevin the Quilter, and also 20 more from a nearby group, we have all we need for our returning 276th Engineering Company. Now, to get them quilted...

I totally get it when the machine messes up the stitching! That can be so frustrating!! Glad you were able to finish the quilt.

I finished the kilt today, so now I can get some quilting done!

I love the Barbados bag - but haven't bought the kit yet...

My machine messed up on my nephew's baby quilt - had to remove half a border's worth of stitching. Took the machine apart, cleaned, oiled, reset all dials, changed the needle, and now it seems fine. Finished the quilt!!

Next, I want to do a mini-quilt from Terri Sandelin's Miniatures in Minutes...

Yep, the thread didn't work and I googled it to try and find it. I had seen the video but it illudes me right now. Decided to print off flurry by Kate Spain by Moda instead. I had purchased the flurry fabrics a few years back to make this quilt and then the fabrics disappeared. Could not find them anywhere. Finally, when doing a clean, I found they had fallen to the floor admidst decorator fabrics I have in a corner. I still don't know where they are but they will turn up someday. Carol

Carol your thread to the site didn't work. Are you looking for the present quilt one? I have the link.

Carol is a sewing demon, and the others aren't far behind. I must work very slow. Really I have to many interests and not enough time. But I enjoy what I do.

Keep on sewing folks!

I am making small zippered bags out of blueberry fabrics to give to my guild board members. The fabric was purchased in Maine this summer and all different! I got an Atkinson design but I don't like the way she finishes her insides so I reworked it so no seams show. Cuter they are that way. I made a Barbados bag from Pink Sand Beach designs and it is SEW cute and easy to make if you can follow directions. Got my supply of zippers and appropriate colored thread the other day so all set to sew. Just need the day to sit down and do it. Carol

Finishing up a few pillow cases.

One of the staff asked if I would crochet a scarf for her daughter's birthday. I did 5 of them in various colors and the last one figured out how to get her name embedded into it.

Now I'm making scarves for everyone. Everyone is in awe and can't figure out how I do the letters. It's just fillet crocheting...easy to screw up, but when I have my brain in-tact it's not too difficult and only take 2 hours per scarf.

Tonight I gave a crocheted Ducky blanket to Anna, one of the med-care givers. I was in luck, because this was her last night working...her daughter will be born soon!!!

Wow everyone is doing so well! We are sew creative! I am working on The Present quilt, but had to order background fabric. I thought I had enough white on white in the same pattern, but I didn't. So I am making the "presents" and then will do the bows and the sashing.

That is all I will get done before Christmas, then I need to make a quilt for my 16 yr. old Grandson as the last one is about 2 feet to short now!

I've tied together 5 lap-sized quilts & have the bindings yet to sew on. -- I have 2 more baby quilts to machine stitch together. There is also one family quilt to add edges to before I can "sandwich", tie, and bind. And I have squares to cut for 4 more lap-sized quilts.

I'm finishing up Leah Day's Quilt-Along. We do the last blocks next week, then learn how to put them all together. She promises that we can be finished by Thanksgiving.

For my next project I have my eye on a quilt kit I purchased this summer called "Blaze of Glory". It's pieced with an applique of an eagle in the center. The quilting was what made the project, so I had my DH take pictures of the quilting, so I can try to emulate it.

I am making new Christmas stockings for my DILs redecorated living room and will start on the wall quilt to go with it when I get back home. It SHOULD be fairly straightforward since I've made the blocks before.

Nearly finished quilting a baby quilt for my great nephew - but the tension on my machine messed up, and I had to pick out half the border.

Then I'll have to try to figure out what's wrong wth the machine. I am definitely going to use a sample square to do my test stitching!

Just finished a quilt for a grandchild. Next project is costumes for the Nativity play for my grandchildren. My children did it and it is time to start the tradition with the grandchildren. Simple costumes with ties to hold the too long ones up.

I just finished quilting a Plus quilt from the Cascade pattern. Now I need to get it bound, but not certain what color to make the binding. I'm thinking a darker purple/maroon.
