Enjoyed reading your update, Audrey - I love walking with my group, too, but it is nice to have a little time to dawdle and look at the sights along the way when you're on your own. Hope I have time to get in a walk tomorrow but I'm afraid I might just be buried in the last pages of my term paper instead. :/

Hi
Most days I join other members of a meetup for walking and the Nordic group on Saturday morning. However, today, my walking meetup group didn't happen - organizer ill so others didn't come.

So ... for the first time I took my poles and went Nordic walking on my own! I covered five km in just about an hour's walking time (see below). This means my speed was just slightly below what I usually do when I walk with the Nordic Walking meetup group. The Saturday outing with the group is ususally longer in time and distance and is continuous - no stopping. Conclusion - walking with others does make a difference!

However I did enjoy my time on the trail. I stopped to watch some kids playing, searched the bushes for an elusive but unidentified bird, watched two imature Great Blue Herons 'play' and admired the flora along the trail. We finally had some rain here in southern Ontario, Canada, so the Credit River level is up and the water was running higher than has since early May - that too was good to see.

Sounds lovely, Audrey. Nothing like SHADE on those hot-day walks!

My poles are still collecting dust, I'm afraid, but I should be heading out with them again next Saturday.

Nordic Walking today with Meetup Group - Mississauga, ON Canada - route was the Culham Trail from River Grove Community Centre (north to end of the trail and then back south to Main St. intersection) covering a distance of just over 8 km.

The trail follows the Credit River along the valley floor, with bridges crossing back and forth several times across the river. The valley is 'wilderness' so the trail is tree lined and 80 percent shaded - hot today in the low 30's C but low humidity. The trail is well packed gravel with some very short sections of ashphalt paving. The CC is above the valley floor so the walk included up/down the valley side twice via a fairly steep incline - certainly gets the heart pumping!

Keep those feet moving and poles swinging!

WTG, Audrey ! That is hot, especially so early in the AM! Those holster-style water bottle belts are great. Keeps your hands free and mine has a pocket for my cell and keys. Keep cool!

My group is on vacation and I'm in the midst of writing a term paper or three. So yesterday's exercise consisted of several 15-minute walks but no poles. Sunday's my day for a long run. Hope I stay dry today!

I walked with mu Nordic Walking Meetup Group in Mississauga, ON, Canada today. Nine of us met at 8:00 am and walked along the Culham Trail along the Credit River - we covered just over 7.3 km.

We are experiencing an extensive heat wave here - temperature was 28 C but humidity made it feel like 36 C (78 F felt like 93 F). I need to buy a sweat band for around my head and a quick access, water bottle and then I will be better equipped.

At the turnaround point some of the walkers walked up "The Hill" - a steep incline going up the side of the river valley - and back down. I was not one of them!!!

Hope others had a good walk today

DFs are going to a concert this evening so I'm on my own. Want to burn a few calories before Monday's weigh-in. I'm optimistic and hoping to see another pound disappear.

Anyone poling today?

The poles for Father's Day are a great idea! Love it!

WTG on getting out and doing it in spite of being tired! I was reminded the other day about it helps me to get motivated if I think about how GOOD I'm going to feel after a workout.

Walking with my little group tomorrow. May have a recruited a new member!

Finished Day 2 yesterday for the 30 day 5K walking plan. The absolute last thing I felt like doing was going out for a walk. I had a long day, came home and ate supper, then just wanted to put my pjs on and relax. It took a few minutes to convince myself to get my butt out the door, and since misery loves company, I took my husband with me!! :) We both walked the mile and I was so glad I had when we were done. I can't say I "enjoy" it yet, but I sure do feel good knowing that I am doing what I need to do and not just what I "feel" like doing. It was nice for my husband and I too. As the parents of nine children, we can't afford to pay to do a lot just the two of us, and I really think that this would be a good thing to do together. I am going to get him a set of walking poles for Father's Day. :)

Enjoyed a walk with my usual Saturday group yesterday. Lately, we haven't been very "usual" with all the other activities going on in our lives. So this was a fun reunion.

Boy, was it hot, tho! And that at 6PM! Glad to have my water bottle belt along - that has proved to be a good investment!

Hope everyone is poling along this summer!

Forgot to check in - walked 10K last Saturday for a charity benefit. It was great. Quite an event in our little town - you earn a small amount of money per kilometer, provided by sponsors donations. The money goes toward building a school in Ethiopia. Runners, Joggers, walkers, Nordic walkers -- families, friends, even a couple of dogs participated. It's an annual event and my second time. FUN!

Now, I'm looking out the window and trying to decide if I should risk getting rained on!

That's great Jan! WTG! Don't forget to change your ticker to show your progress.

I went walking without the poles on Monday and missed them, too. More calories burned with the poles and I also tend to walk faster with the poles. Is that just me?

Went to see my parents on plane. My poles are not the adjustable kind, so I couldn't bring them with me. I did go out walking everyday, but I missed having the extra workout that the poles provide. I came back 3 pounds lighter than when I left :)

Got in a nice long tour yesterday - perfect weather! So I'm going for it again today. Still not healthy enough to run, so NW is the next best option. And I love the upper body work - running doesn't have the same benefit in that department!

Hope everyone has a chance to get out with the poles this holiday weekend! Enjoy!

Spring is sprung here! I'm heading out with my poles. I'd rather be running, to be honest, but I've been sick and need to take it a little slower for now. The poles are kind of halfway between a leisurely walk and a full-blown run, so that works well for me today!

Good weekend all!

That sunset sounds beautiful. We have some gorgeous ones here in NW USA also. I have only been out with my poles once as we did have a sunny Saturday but they are few and far between these days. I am anxiously awaiting another sunny one. I have read quite a lot on this thread about usage of NP and learning gradually that I was holding mine too long and not letting them drag behind me. My arms were a little sore and my back/neck too. So it is important to get the correct form. I am thankful for this team!!

Still haven't talked to df, Kelpie - she texted me today to tell me she wouldn't be going NW because she and dh would be working on their roof!

But I went out for a good tour on my own. It was really muddy on parts of the trail, so I was glad to have the poles to prevent slipping! Nice sunset just as I got back :)

Sorry about the carpal tunnel, Kelpie. My friend who is a NW instructor had some trouble with that as well. She didn't need surgery, has some special exercises that she does. But she leaves the poles behind on occasion when it gets aggravated.

Too wet for NW here in southern Germany lately! Rain rain rain, even flooding on some roads. Nothing like Brisbane tho!

I tried something different yesterday. I went pole walking on the treadmill @ the gym. Walked 1.5 hours while watching Family Guy & Conan. Quite the change of scenery, since I don't have a TV at home.

Same here - my health has been fine, but had a crazy schedule at work and didn't get home most evenings till 10 PM. We had a day camp program at the language school as it was school vacation time. I walked (without poles) in the park with my kids English classes as my cardio and went to the gym one day as well.

I'm aiming for Tuesday afternoon Nordic walking - I have the afternoon off and the weather is supposed to clear up by then!

I haven't managed much walking this week, due to my health, and the rain. Still, I managed a 30 minute walk at lunchtime on Tuesday.

AMROZI did you see that under MY FITNESS you can map your route there. Then whenever you walk that route you can add it to your fitness by just clicking on what you name it and adding the minutes it took you to walk it. It is pretty neat I have a couple routes around the place like that. Happy November to everyone as well!

WTG Michael...and happy November to you, too.

Cool that you can post a link to your route! I was out and about today, too. Walked about an hour, part of that in the woods at sunset - great colors with the sunlight shining through the gold-yellow leaves.

Wow, no posts here in over a month! I know that some pole-walking has been going on, though. It's a good time of year for it in many places, as it is here.

But I've been working verrrrry long days and most of my exercise has been at the gym in recent weeks. Workouts are tucked in between morning and evening lessons at the language school in the city. The poles remain in the car back at the train station where I leave it for my commute into town.

Tomorrow's a German holiday, though, so I plan to get out with my poles for an hour or so in the afternoon.

It has been raining heavily here too, and the temps are cooler. I guess fall is now officially here.

Sorry to hear that your today's meet up had to be cancelled. Have fun with Denise or Nicole! I am going to Step To The Beat (Walk It Out is the name of the US version of this Wii game)

Thankfully, it shouldn't rain tomorrow nor Monday.
I have found another Nordic walking group, 30-minute drive from home, and will give it a try on Monday evening.

NWalked in the rain yesterday - just a light rain, though, so it was actually quite pleasant on the trails.

My usual Saturday NW meet-up has been cancelled. The rain is heavier today and doesn't look like it's going to let up any time soon.

Guess I'll be doing Boot Camp with Denise :) or maybe Cardio with Coach Nicole!

I have to agree about the "bad knee" benefit of nordic walking poles. What a godsend! Along with my Sketchers Shape-ups, I can walk comfortably for long periods without any leftover pain. I highly recommend them for anyone with knee issues.

Wow - didn't realize things were so seriously regulated in CH! Hope you can manage to get out with the new group at least a few times before the days get shorter...or find another group.

I agree about walking or running with a headlight. I have a reflective vest for evening or early morning workouts, but haven't broken down and gotten a light yet! Not really looking forward to the winter - there's always the gym but can't use my poles on the treadmill!
