Amphibi, sorry about your wrist, take it easy, and I hope you feel better soon.

1/19 13/20 1/2 of Sarah Ivanhoe's Candlelight yoga, it was all I had time for, but felt good!

1/20 14/20 got to the second Bikram class, still needing some adjustments, but I like the flow and the sweat, really could feel my heart thumping in my chest a few times, very different from my normal slow paced, meditative practice.

10/15.5 102 min S2BS Vinyasa yoga ... toned it down, and when I got to Kakasana (crow) pose, I had my hands on blocks (wrist strategy)- held it less time, too ... I know I am falling behind in the challenge because of the icy mishap

My right wrist feels about 85% ...

I slipped and fell on some frozen slush yesterday (not seriously banged up), but I accomplished a resquencing of my practice (on paper only).

Have the workshop coming up in about 4 days from now. Like I said it counts as .5 session ... I could have predicted it. If I'm not 100% I could use push-up bars or Gripitz type blocks for the floor poses requiring use of wrists ... uh, and even buildups ...

I am SURE this studio has those things; they seem to have everything else ... I am SOOOO happy this workshop is where it is ...(in any case)

I probably don't have to tell you that the refrigerated sessions sequenced by yours truly and dear Jonathan as well, had cross-training effect on my strength but not my flexibility ...

An affordable class in a shala that hasn't caught on yet, sandwiched between the Holidayasana-modified OM classes and the workshop.

Frankly, if it hadn't been for what OM did to its classes during the Holidayasana Challenge time, I would not have held my own in this class ... lol

CMKUNKLE1 - I find your trainer's concerns around downward dog to be quite misguided. Surprisingly, there are still many excellent professionals who do not fully comprehend the merits of a regular yoga practice in achieving our best health, my running coach included :)

I did research downward dog and potential shoulder sprains. No evidence to support this assertion, at least from what I could find. If anything, wrist injuries can be problematic, primarily because people will use their wrists to support their arms rather than putting the pressure into the thumb and forefinger, which protects the wrists.

Downward dog is considered a restorative pose when done correctly, so congrats to you for continuing with your 31-day challenge. Contrary to what you have been told, I am confident that your shoulders will in fact be stronger...and you will have smokin' pipes :)

CMKUNKLE1 listen to your body! Maybe a certified yoga instructor could give a more authorized opinion. In general, one day rest in between intensive workouts are advisable so the muscles repair.

1/15 11/20 Candleight yoga, energizer practice.

Only thing I could say about the daily practice, and downward dog possibly overusing the shoulder, is do listen to your body, if you feel any pain or abnormal sensation, then you may want to let up on the practice, if it makes you feel good, then continue. I don't practice daily, but mine are short too, so I think I could if I had the time. I don't know that I could handle as much as you are doing though!

10/15 25 min of Chris Freytag on-demand TV. I probably did half the time because I stubbed my middle toe on the ironing board leg when I went to get my laundry out of the dryer, yesterday. I feel your pain SHRLZI. I don't think I broke it, but it sure hurts. I'll have to settle for Bridge and Shoulder stand poses, maybe a Warrior.

I don't have the metabolism, young age (= short recovery time) or the temperament for every day. Most of the time I found the practice worked better for me when I upped it from 3x a week to 4x a week.

When I had done a relatively gentle, rather short practice I did it 5x a week, and it was not particularly "effective" for my energy or strength levels ...

I've been taking one class (60 minutes) per day during the week (after work) and 2-4 classes per day on the weekend - but a personal trainer recently told me this was bad because I could sustain overuse injury to my shoulder from downdog?? I don't know - I still plan on at least 31 classes for the month either way...there are just too many good things about the practice!

Go For It - U Can Do It!

Welcome, JEFFSHAUSMAUS ...

I see your need and ability to do things other than the yoga ...

Really, I do think the heat went south @ Chez Amphibi worse than ever ... 18° outside and with (lack of) heat like this, I always know the weather emoticon

I am thinking of queuing up some Jonathan Urla ... but tomorrow night ...

I'd been nearly rocking headstand, too, yesterday .. in the strongest way yet to nearly rock it ... remembering how The Cool Yogini had been telling me I wasn't to rush into this pose ...

[..spent too much of my formative months with fellow students who practically flew into headstand ... at The Nameless ... the crazed Master Teacher there had singled me out in class as if I should be doing that, too ... wonder if it's something about being a former swimmer?]

But ... and ... my Aurorae mat felt so cushiony ...

Ahhh ... pilates ... emoticon emoticon , but I am going to add to Jonathan Urla's Yogilates - in addition to tweaking I already do - one set of 10 utthita prasarita padasana, dozen slow counts ... it's been my ace in the hole ...

A small ceramic heater, barely doing the job, a SNOW DAY (more physically coordinated in the afternoon than after a lengthy commute and a hard day at work ...), the practice (this, too, is yoga for Weight Loss [kinda])

Oh, and I don't mean to avenge my past w/ the Nameless through the workshop. Though my post may have sounded that way. emoticon

In all rationality, I can't!

But the .5 stands for a reconciliation ... I expect to have a small practice within the workshop, the same way the instructor gets her advanced yoga practice on (in a global way) in just demo-ing and talking the students through whatever moves ... and I am talking actually physically, not just spiritually ...

Soft 2 Be Strong Vinyasa Yoga® is supposed to be done in a lot more ambient heat than I'd had available to me the past couple weeks, so it DID again feel like the Marine boot camp ...

... and I had the added soundtrack of my stir-crazy upstairs neighbor's sour guitar notes and pounding on the floorboards ... to add to the challenge ...

Amphibi, hope you can warm up soon, sounds like it's extra cold in your area anyway...any chance you could procure a space heater? (or just lots of blankets and sweaters?)

My apartment is SOOOO cold right now, I don't get to enjoy my new, gorgeous Aurorae mat a second time, tonight ...!

I have to be able to breathe air that isn't so, so cold .. stripping off layers would not work so well...

Cold like this makes a moderately difficult session feel like the Marines ... ! emoticon

Thanks, PUNCHIE, and I decided two things:

I am going for 15.5 this month; an unusual request on account of I had been burned in the second of two private sessions I had been ill able to afford:

over at The Nameless; so I am going to have the instructor at OM Yoga (THE OM Yoga in New York City) in the workshop ... well, I will be "leading her around by the nose" like I did Gumbylady in the first of two private session ... and, thus I plan to get:

1- My money's worth
2- A good chunk of a session's worth for purposes of the Challenge ....

I am nearly positive OM Yoga will not let me down, and I am naming names here !! ... it is only a lawsuit when LIARS accuse you of slander ... so the other place remains Nameless .. if you ever are a tourist visiting the Outer Boroughs of New York City, I would email you the actual name of the Nameless upon request (Nameless, named, is nothing like the word Namasté) in a heartbeat ... to either vet out of curiosity or avoid like the plague ...
